    There's a fun thing that's happening in the meta right now and that won't last long, but when I face a turn overbet these days I'm extremely happy. A lot of people know that flush draws are good candidates to do that, and they also know that flush draws must shut down river. So basically you can just call the turn overbet with most of your range and know that their river bet on a blank will be imbalanced strong, and their river check will be imbalanced weak.

    • @JICM25
      @JICM25 3 роки тому

      So you then either raise their river bet or you bet when they check, right ?

    • @OsefKincaid
      @OsefKincaid 3 роки тому

      @@JICM25 If they bet river I think it's really strong, because their main bluff on the turn is flush draws and they don't continue river with missed flush draws so they're imbalanced toward value. So I would overfold to their river bet.
      If they check, you can bet if you don't have showdown value, but most of the time you just have that and you can check down and win... It's just a spot that plays pretty honest so you just get to realize a lot.
      Be careful with this though because people will realize that this is happening, you won't get to do that in six months I'm pretty sure.

    Johnnie clearly doesn't understand poker too well lol. "Why would he use this sizing when I capped my range." That's literally when you want to use overbets the most lol. Also think this is a spot where theory diverges extremely far from practice. In practice people know this is a board they can range bet but when they do check it will be with weaker showdown value hands and won't include many FDs which then make missed FDs good to barrel the river with because IP only has Qx, weak Kx hands and some weaker pairs.

      Johnnie is thinking that, because his own range is capped, Landon should be more incentivized to bet smaller with his value hands so Johnnie can call. Basically, "why is Landon betting so large with a monster when I basically told him on the flop that I don't have a hand to pay him off with? Therefore he is probably bluffing right?" It's flawed thinking, but many players, including myself at one point, think this way. Unfortunately, this mindset leaves them betting huge when bluffing and not extracting max value from their premium hands, as well as playing the sheriff and paying off other players' monsters left and right.

    Johnnie said that he didn't like having the Qh on the turn which makes sense to me because he blocks some of the heart flush draws Landon could be bluffing with. However, at 11:13 the solver is calling (or raising) more often with combos of Q9o that contain a heart. What gives?

    • @boba7709
      @boba7709 2 роки тому +1

      Qh doesn't actually block Landon's bluffs, since Landon holding Qh gives him showdown value with second pair, so he wouldn't be bluffing with Qh in his hand.

  • @user-jt2bf6ym1o
    @user-jt2bf6ym1o Рік тому

    This is a cool play, but of course in actual implementation comes down to balance. Landon is good enough to do this with value as well, but I wonder if many people are actually balanced in this spot and would choose this sizing with two pair and sets

  • @olentis6293
    @olentis6293 3 роки тому +1

    10:41 IMO Second pair is not right at the cut off point of calling and folding.Given that in reality he has almost no check backs on the flop with sets, two pair, overpair, top pair. So all of sudden Q9 is pretty high in his actual range which consists of GS with bdfd, GS, BDFD, 3rd pair, pocket etc

    • @II-no5oi
      @II-no5oi 2 роки тому

      Yes it is. if it's not cut off point, those hands should be pure calling. But it's not, hands that worse than Q9o for show down is not truly worse than Q9o as a bluff catcher.

He actually goes on to say (we want him to have 10x in hearts like A10h) ... so we want villain to have the nuts when we bluff? To me, the 10h doesn't seem relevant other than blocking straights. I would assume 10xh are betting flop at a high rate just like he says 3:50 "blocking AK doesnt really matter when most of the time hes going to be betting the flop". So blocking 10xh doesn't really matter or am I wrong? In fact, I can see A10h checking flop more than 10xh that don't have showdown value. So having the 10h could be good, no?
