"Noooooo! We can't risk having to play a Benson-Pettersson-Kuzmenko line in a few years!". It would cause me great pain if they turned down an offer like that just because they want to draft a RD so badly.
@@bajjanitorkeep in mind we have a lot of upcoming wingers, defence is exactly what the Canucks need to work with long term as they struggled with it over the years. Benson would’ve been a stud for sure but Willander was the best option!
I liked the first 2 picks, i get that feeling Cammi was the one who wasn't too thrilled about the picks after that judging by what she said to Harvey and I totally agree with her. You shouldn't be swinging for players who will be fringe depth players if they make it, a lot of the players picked after R3 felt like low upside picks. You can sign 4th liners and bottom pairing dmen every summer for cheap.
Benning had experience and we missed the playoffs almost every year here was here despite spending to the cap and trading away more picks than we acquired. Experience doesn’t equal intelligence unfortunately
@@nuckv7544 Let's put it this way, ever since Vancouver hired 3 women with a combined total of zero NHL experience to improve their NHL team, that team has been ridiculously embarrassing to watch. What a farce.)
Defensemen were going fast in this draft. Anything could have happened. If you find the player you want who can help the team win, you have to go for it. A Top 4 defensive defenseman who can score 30-40 points is extremely difficult to find and having one for 3 years on ELC is money. Benson was the sexy pick, but you can get a winger much easier than a top 4 D. He was on my list, so I’m happy. In terms of value, Willander if he pans out, and he has the attitude and tools, is the high value pick. It’s unlikely Benson becomes the next DeBrincat, but it’s possible.

I don’t get his explanation when he describes that’s it’s easier as a defender now because he knows that the forwards don’t like to be in the pick up spot? What is he saying??
He's describing a situation where a D-man passes the puck to a forward only for the forward to get crushed into the corner by a defender that's only two strides away. When he was a forward, he hated that so he adjusted his play to make sure he's not putting forwards in that position.
In hindsight, they should probably have traded down. Buffalo was most likely after Benson, who they got anyways. Buffalo doesn't have a need for Willander with Dahlin and Power on the roster. Arizona was the wildcard, but they had just taken Simashev and most likely weren't going to take two D in the top 15. Picking up picks 13 and 39 for 11 and still getting Willander was a high probability.
@@mrrcool77 Jokiharju is not a top4 D, Buffalo doesn't have anybody else of note still coming through their pipeline on the back end. You're wrong, their needs ARE on D, all of their high end upside talent still to come is at forward
Yeah that interview where he basically lays down his cards about being cross-trained as a forward and as a D-man, that had to make them happy.
'He's a beauty.'
This needs to be 10-15 min long. Love watching this!!
Sparkling interview.

Benning called, he said he wouldve traded the 11th and next years 1st for Seguin and $10 worth of timbits

Loved this video!!!
I wonder what the offer was for our 11 pick.... 13 & 45 ?

Hirose/Rathbone?
You can fill the bottom pair with anybody. You just need to focus on building a solid top 4

Hang cleans & cleans & power cleans & scrunch rebounds will make him a difficult player to out maneuver. Triple jump record breaker ?

It was a very intelligent thing to say. He's clearly got the brains and body for the game. Everything else can be coached.

Better to get the guy you want than to try to play it cute and get second best
You think Buffalo isn't gonna jus take BPA? You think they're narrow minded enough only to draft by positional need?
@user-by3nd4rm6c every teams' BPA is different, and Benson was ranked higher by most scouts, so he was the BPA anyways.
Unless Arizona moved down as well to a team that wanted Willander...
