easy to spot it bro... front stance is higher than the back. that means some weight is missing from the front. And it's not always about changing some body panels and paint :) all and all, those pistons and rods don't look bad, you might want to dismantle everything and check the block, check the head, and maybe you can getaway with buying just some bits and gaskets. Instead of buying and new engine for 3k, you identify if something is bad, and buy that part for a lot less, put it all together and you know you have a good engine.

I totally feel you! Lost 5 five cars in a bidding war across 3 days. Bought a Qashqai out of frustration of losing and went real hard on the bid button! Happy days won the car! Low and behold. The problems! Gone is the engine! And gone are my margins.
Makes me sick in the stomach when I think about it 😂😂
It is what it is. These mistakes will only make me more emotionally mature. Bite the loss and move on to the next one.

Honestly not that bad, it’s the B48 engine, also used in the Mini Cooper S (181HP). Quite readily available for around £2K. So easy to fit, and gives you the opportunity to get shut of the OEM downpipe and upgrade the turbo. Easily fixable for roughly £2.5K🙂

Been here myself bro with a Jaguar F Pace RS model, sold as run and drive. Car delivered through Copart it drove off the ramp 5 mins later while I was heading to the petrol pump to fill up, engine cut off. Ended up needing a full engine rebuild. Complained to Co part their run and drive definition is that upon delivery to the centre the car moved 10meters under its own drive. They know the true extent of the damage but hide it, we all know this. But either way had to fight through and did the rebuild took a big L. But came out leavening more about engine rebuild, valuable lesson to stay disciplined and lastly a family out there benefiting from a car rebuilt right and safe. Head up my brother, these are a the true times you got to keep it moving.

Been there, know the feeling. Make it into a project car, save time and get your ROI faster by replacing the engine with another, keep it same size engine. Upgrade the turbo (or not) , put on a body kit, new wheels, new exhaust and finish off with some stickers. There no accident so you'll get a decent price from a youngster who want an eye catching Beemer. Advertise the old engine parts for 1k to recoup some costs. You'll make profit overall and have fun doing the project. Keep videoing it, perhaps a viewer will buy it from u.

I actually saw this car too on copart a few days ago. I was shocked on good the car looks, it got msport all around it. I think you should go all out and fix it, you commit too much time and effort already.

I'd try rebuilding the engine see what's going on with it.
Might be something mot as expensive as a new engine.
I bought a 2018 sprinter they put a blown engine in the hole and sold it on copart.
Never even bolted the prop shaft back on. Or put gear linkage on.
Ahh tricks of the auction world hey.
But they put the engine cover on and air filter box so it didn't look like it was fucked.
    Same on your motor
    Enjoy
    But keep smiling 😁

If you have all or nearly all the engine parts why not send everything to a BMW engine builder and once finished install it back into the car. No replacement engine needed just the labour cost .... just a thought. Might save you time and money?

There are many parts. As on comments they looks in good condition. Consult with a mechanic. It may be sourcing a few items.
    May be cheaper with fitting

Only option is get new engine them sell it or keep it. Rest of the car is good condition

Honestly i’d rebuild it as a project car, maybe a Jz swap. Perfect candidate.

Smash a salvage motor in it and get on with your life. It’s a good lesson to not repeat. Good looking body and interior, you may have paid too much, but in its current condition it’s not worth much.

Dee I would source an engine and fit it if it was me. Your £8600 in the hole which is a lot of cash and if you get a engine at 3k or less then your 11600 in the hole but it must be worth 15 or 16k also I am guessing its not a category car so its worth full value. OK its not massive profit for the time required but its better than stripping for parts.

What I would do is take that engine out and have it sent off and checked by an engine machine shop. If you can see any holes in the block then dont but if not send it off. You have most of the expensive parts there.
Take the spark plugs out and use a thin cane in the hole to see if they each rise up when you turn the engine over by hand. Also see if the engine headbolts are still tight.
This engine may be salvageable, if you check it over properly. It would be a waste if not, and spending a load of money on a new engine.
That is where I would start anyway, others may have a different opinion to me though.

@@SalvageMasterEssex How do you know they are from this car if it's been in a chop shop?.. They could of replaced it or from another car, there is only 1 in the boot, seems odd. I have bought and sold enough stuff to know to not always go on face value..

You need to think limit loss/profit reduction. If an engine swap still makes a profit or a smaller loss than the other the options, then do it. At the moment, it's a 8.5k loss. Engine swap over rebuild.

Copart got me a couple of time with the runs and drives bullshit. The car started with a massive Rod knock. So they called that running I put it in gear and it died. I replaced the engine and will take a loss but I learned my lesson with them.
