After seeing this video I made a point of stopping there. Van Horn is about half way from Las Cruces, N.M. to Abilene,TX. on day two my twice yearly trip from Phoenix,AZ. to Monroe, Louisiana. I have Been looking for a good place to eat. Mom's kitchen was hard to find even using Google maps because lots of the streets are not signed, but we finally found it. The pace is a small house that has been turned into a cafe. You eat in what was the living room. The lady that runs it was very nice and the food was good and reasonably priced but the portions were small. The re-fried beans were just a smear on the plate. Still, I would go back and give it another try.

As luck would have it, around the 1st week of March 2020, I drove from Houston to Phoenix to visit my son. Made a point to get lunch here and I was not disappointed. I got the platter our host ate. Delicious!!! 😋 only problem is, it is too far away to go more often😂😂😂
From Sonora Texas to El Paso on interstate 10 is the longest, most boring, super dangerous drive. The speed limit is 80 but once you hit the Davis mountains the wind can gust up to 100mph. I've seen loaded 18 wheelers just blown over topside, tractor and trailer together. Easy to fall asleep because there isn't much to look at and no radio unless u have satellite, etc. At least you know Mom's kitchen is there waiting for you.

The River Walk put San Antonio's TexMex on the map. There's a wider variety across Texas and some of the little "mom & pop" establishments will knock your socks off.
Looks like a good old fashion place run by real nice folks. Food made with love is always the best.

As luck would have it, around the 1st week of March 2020, I drove from Houston to Phoenix to visit my son. Made a point to get lunch here and I was not disappointed. I got the platter our host ate. Delicious!!! 😋 only problem is, it is too far away to go more often😂😂😂

From Sonora Texas to El Paso on interstate 10 is the longest, most boring, super dangerous drive. The speed limit is 80 but once you hit the Davis mountains the wind can gust up to 100mph. I've seen loaded 18 wheelers just blown over topside, tractor and trailer together. Easy to fall asleep because there isn't much to look at and no radio unless u have satellite, etc. At least you know Mom's kitchen is there waiting for you.

The River Walk put San Antonio's TexMex on the map. There's a wider variety across Texas and some of the little "mom & pop" establishments will knock your socks off.
