I'm letting you know right now. If this is like Roll20 where people will need to purchase a separate set of digital assets to buy, itll be a waste of time. It looks great, but unless the digital assets are attached to the 2024 rulebooks, im fine without it. I don't need to spend another $60 on digital assets when I could make my own and go straight to owl bear
My guess from everything presented is very basic tokens and assets will be free while models and special terrain will cost money. Very early I put my money on the reason they pushed back the new monster manual is they want as many monsters as possible for minis to purchase. "Hey that token of a red dragon looks ok but how about this $4.99 fully sculpted and colored digital mini?"
this is brought to you by the company that thinks people will pay $6 for virtual dice that nobody else can see. they 1000% are expecting people to throw down hundreds of dollars on virtual minis.
The Microtransactions are going to be glorious. Please have a reasonable intro level that provides enough game to actually play. Not a giant golden carrot that you have to purchase to really go beyond a basic demo only good for a tavern brawl.
I'm imagining spending hours painstakingly building a 3D dungeon only to have my players walk right past it to do something else completely unexpected.....
Ok but I can see microtransactions all over this. Its fine considering people pay for 2D art tokens on other VTT but I bet this will be more expensive as more money and resources went into developing this. I'll stick to pen and paper but good for anyone who enjoys this
@@Envyus1 Sure but the fact that its a 3D model space just tells me its not going to be cheap. I would be much happier if this was a buy to play model where you just pay once and unlock everything but I doubt that will be the case ever

There is one thing in common in most posts concerning the official DnD VTT. People want to know the business model. I would love to use an official VTT with great integration with DnD Beyond and with all the content prepared to run. But if there are paywalls everywhere, every other feature the product might have won't mean a thing. There's a lot of people already paying a master tier subscription + buying books and consuming other DnD content. The proper way to monetize DnD in my opinion is to make it as easy as possible and cheap to play the TTRPG while using the vast lore and mechanics to expand to movies, video games, tv shows and so on. The value of DnD is the entire stack.
Considering D&D Beyond can't even do things like spend money to buy an item or track expended ammo with attacks, I'm skeptical of how smooth the actual gameplay is going to be. They really ought to focus on shoring up the system they have--despite its convenience it has several glaring accessibility gaps still.
Apparently the way it thing works is that it uses the books to decide what you have access to. Me and my Friend are going to attempt to try to test out "Sharing" Books to see if that works, I have several characters that are "Shared" over.
This looks amazing.... but man can I SMELLLL the microtransactions from here.... Remember, he said "Free.... to try out" What is the base cost? What does that include? Will this be a 1 time purchase? lol probably not. Will there be tiers to the subscription? How much are you willing to spend a month to have every token, terrain, and feature unlocked? My problem is there is no way there will be enough assets to cover even a small % of the crazy things I want to design, so in that way using the tabletop could be limiting compared to pure theater of the mind. But perhaps this will be best used for the building interiors and maybe classic dungeon sessions.
They would be better served to do a subscription service with different tiers to access more assets and content. If you go that route, don't make it to where everyone has to have the same subscription tier when playing together. Also, allow for third-party assets so we can get different aesthetics. Subscriptions would probably get them more money in the long run as well, and it wouldn't be nearly as shady if they did microtransactions. Another point regarding a sort of "sharing" system regarding subscriptions. If people come to my table in real life, I don't require them to have Fizban's book if they want to make a Dragonborn character with those rules. I have the book, so I can share it. If I invite them to my VTT game, what I have should be available for them to use. However, if I go to their VTT and they have a lower subscription tier than me, I should only be allowed to use what I have when it comes to character building if they allow it.
Hope this is good and the monitization is sane. I'm not spending €5+ per digital mini. Just give me a €15 subscription or one-time purchase with full access and I'll use it till the servers burn down.

If you don't want to sound like you're overpromising, please don't say "we want this on phones, consoles, and fridges". Anyone familiar with trying to port games across platforms knows how insane it is to suggest it's possible without already having at least the framework.
it looks good but it doesn't solve the biggest problem in the TTRPG Online Community: FINDING PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH. Even with the success of BG3 it's still hard to find people to play with - even more still, people that will stick around to play through an entire campaign. Microtransactions are fine - as long as they're supporting and promoting the TTRPG Community, which they won't. I want to see a platform that helps indie TTRPG's make a little extra money. I want to see a platform that focuses on building a larger TTRPG community and solving the problems that currently exist. I don't want to see Hasbro trying to capitalize on the virtual tabletop platform and exterminating indie games and platforms like they did with E-Tools back in the day, pre-D&D Beyond.
The ONLY way anything like this would ever work- is if it wasn't a greedy money grab and it will be so...meh. Going to be microtransaction hell, with very little community mod/creation tools. Edit: 3:41 Tabletop simulator not only lets you do this but it lets you generate a pop up standee image that you can show the front and back of if you want. Might be good to add that too....
You know, if this is all a monthly subscription, fine. If this is a monthly subscription where we have to buy a hundred dollar asset pack per campaign module then I think I’ll just stick to the power of imagination and terrain I’ve physically built.
I have no doubt that my players would LOVE plopping down Optimus Prime in a D&D game. Thanks WotC! Giving my paladin My LIttle Pony would be the cherry on top.
Absolutely but to not consider the other avenues is a bit poor form. For many folks the only way they can play is online. I've run campaigns in both and while face to face is a better experience both are great.
I was originally completely uninterested in this. Now that I see it I am all in. Completely excited for it. I'm actually considering not getting a Switch 2 because I probably won't need it if I have this. I also always wanted to play MMOs and never seemed to have the right system to play, my lifestyle has been far too transient unfortunately. Now I don't actually care at all, this is way cooler. I also love everything I've seen from the UAs and what's been shown on dungeon dudes and others. Also I really can't wait to play the new ranger.. probably fey wanderer. So cool.
I think this again will be something that's awesome after we have another big crisis and they make it a reasonable model that sucks only a reasonable amount of money out of our pockets
Lol. Watch them dropping C&Ds to the modders who are working to fully implement level editing into BG3 with the unlocked modding toolkit because this exists. I hope to God I am wrong.
I hope it’s a one time purchase… it’s just gonna get really expensive if everything is micro transactions and a terrible decision if everyone playing needs to own the certain pieces in question for it to work
I can see this going the way of ESO decorating and setbuilding, where every single setpiece is gonna bankrupt you bet itll cost folks money for every single atmosphere as well.
My whole group is waiting for this to land. We usually use FGU but have migrated to BG3 for a rest and do we can all be players together for a change. The prep for GM is always savage, especially for homebrew, which we would do more of but too time poor. Will need some reasonable automation like FGU to make combat faster. I know this might sound cringe for purists but we want to be able to play in different ways. Not opposed to AI either. Not opposed to buying sets of digital tokens if the price is fair. Be adventurous with your offering. Then Hurry up and take my money.
Why do characters have no animations? Are you making a PC game without giving it all its advantages over the tabletop? Is it that difficult to provide them with sword strike and movement animations?
I just hope this is made with community modding in mind because if you put out this product and you cant upload custom 3D assets from the community I will loose all interest.

If the name is based off the city of Sigil from the lore, then they're pronouncing it wrong. It's been pronounced Si-gill with a hard G for as many editions as I can remember
If you don't want to sound like you're overpromising, please don't say "we want this on phones, consoles, and fridges".
Anyone familiar with trying to port games across platforms knows how insane it is to suggest it's possible without already having at least the framework.
VR support like the Demeo game?
Is this the VTT Mercer and Dungeon Craft played half a year ago?
it looks good but it doesn't solve the biggest problem in the TTRPG Online Community: FINDING PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH.
This is awesome!! Now, all I need is friends!
It looks cool and I'm optimistic, but I would be lying if I didn't say I dont trust hazbro
When release?
Is it going to be in VR? (I have a Meta Quest 3 this would be Awesome in Mixed Reality)
It's interesting that nobody says anything about this and is concerned about it 3:53
Whats wrong with it?
You know, if this is all a monthly subscription, fine. If this is a monthly subscription where we have to buy a hundred dollar asset pack per campaign module then I think I’ll just stick to the power of imagination and terrain I’ve physically built.
4:14 Oh, hi Prime...
Autobots, I rolled a Nat 1.
This got interesting.
Autobots we must stop nicol bolas from resurrecting unicron
I have no doubt that my players would LOVE plopping down Optimus Prime in a D&D game. Thanks WotC! Giving my paladin My LIttle Pony would be the cherry on top.
and no official release date, fantastic
希望能有高度相關的距離設置
我用roll20的時候最容易浪費時間的就是計算加了高度的距離了
will we have adventures set? i'd love to see castle ravenloft in that
D&D is best played in real life, with real people across the table.
Nothing else compares.
Absolutely but to not consider the other avenues is a bit poor form. For many folks the only way they can play is online.
I've run campaigns in both and while face to face is a better experience both are great.
I play irl, but we incorporate VTT into our sessions and it's great. I'm excited to implement this into our irl sessions.
@@ThatAsianKid32 Aye, same! I've made a TV table.
So Talespire but with microtransactions?
I was originally completely uninterested in this. Now that I see it I am all in. Completely excited for it. I'm actually considering not getting a Switch 2 because I probably won't need it if I have this. I also always wanted to play MMOs and never seemed to have the right system to play, my lifestyle has been far too transient unfortunately. Now I don't actually care at all, this is way cooler. I also love everything I've seen from the UAs and what's been shown on dungeon dudes and others. Also I really can't wait to play the new ranger.. probably fey wanderer. So cool.
Just imagine the community made stuff
I think this again will be something that's awesome after we have another big crisis and they make it a reasonable model that sucks only a reasonable amount of money out of our pockets
The level builder looks very cool.
"You will not own a thing, and be happy" - Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum
And there I thought it's more Planescape content but no, just cash collection.
Lol. Watch them dropping C&Ds to the modders who are working to fully implement level editing into BG3 with the unlocked modding toolkit because this exists. I hope to God I am wrong.
2nd call
Hot damn though
I hope it’s a one time purchase… it’s just gonna get really expensive if everything is micro transactions and a terrible decision if everyone playing needs to own the certain pieces in question for it to work
Does it have fog of war so you aren't revealing the entire map all at the same time?
The environments look great! Stationary miniatures is a bit off putting though.
Fast, indeed. I can already see it… “ah a random encounter. Guys, give me a week so I can buy some assets and build a map for this three round fight!”
So its just a webclone of dungeon alchemist?
Exactly what I was thinking!
2D Tokens should be vertical, who uses top down tokens?
I want this now please, and thank you.
I can see this going the way of ESO decorating and setbuilding, where every single setpiece is gonna bankrupt you bet itll cost folks money for every single atmosphere as well.
Please add a local playmode with Touch inputs. PLEASE!
They did say it was going to eventually be on mobile so to me that means touch inputs are in their plans :)
Ah yes, so ready to abandon all the work ive in done in Foundry on my 3-year long campaign for an overpriced less-functional vtt. "but its pretty!"
Its pronounced Sigil.
Depends if they are referring to that specific city or the common word for a magical symbol
Sijjjil
So do you need Baldurs Gate 3 to use this?
No
No you don't they are just showing you can have the characters from the game in this vtt
@@willSolos gotcha, thank you!
UUUUHHHH This is just TaleSpire, which also pretty much already has mods and maps for all of the current games.
That's dope.
this is cool
This looks so cool, which makes it a bummer because you know it’s going to be monetized out the wazoo
A product? Costing money?! WHO COULD FORSEE THIS
This looks identical to TaleSpire
Why do characters have no animations? Are you making a PC game without giving it all its advantages over the tabletop? Is it that difficult to provide them with sword strike and movement animations?
On the second thought, it is probably better this way.
I just hope this is made with community modding in mind because if you put out this product and you cant upload custom 3D assets from the community I will loose all interest.
Please give me an option to just buy the whole thing and I own it instead of just a subscription service! If you have like add ons or dlc or something like that. That’s fine just give me the option to pay for it once and I own it
so what, will it cost like 400 dollars to get it all again?
I mean, there's Divinity Original Sin 2 for this
That's suuuuuper limited. Also wrong ruleset
@@20storiesunder OK, Baldur's Gate 3, then, same creator, same engine... But I think you might be overestimating Sigil by a bit of a comfortable margin if you think that one's not going to be limited (or limiting - which I find more of a problem myself).
@@TheSmuey Divinities one is dead. It won't get any more updates and there isn't a reason for a team to work on it.
Sigil is a new product that is clearly a big priority for wotc. So it's going to see a ton of development.
Very different ball game.
