You should never stop mentioning how bad the printing process used by Mattel for their premium products is. How are they going to ever change if we keep quiet about it? This is premium and it looks ugly. Heck! it even looks worse than their silver line, or anything coming out from the competition, in that price range. Majorette could teach them a thing or two about how to make it look good without breaking the bank.

I think a big part of the problem is Mattel has so many different lines and series now everything gets watered down. Then you get mismatched pairings and castings in sets that doesn’t make much sense. As a result the days of wanting, or needing, a full set of a premium release or every RLC are basically gone. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing! And I agree with the comments about the hobby cooling down. I noticed the price of the Corolla chase has been cut in half on eBay over the past few weeks. So we got that going for us! Keep us the great work and asking the hard questions like why continue to screw us with the sh*tty tampos?! 😊

I think bringing back a certain prancing horse into the premium Hot Wheels lineup (seriously, Mattel, it's time to sublicense Ferrari even if it means paying another toy manufacturer every time you put one out) would greatly revive my own lagging interest in Car Culture.
Also, chroming the rims more often. If you check premiums from any early 2010s premium series like Garage, Vintage Racing, Slick Rides (the logo series that became Nostalgia/Pop Culture), or the original Boulevard, while they didn't always get chrome rims (especially if the rims are supposed to represent carbon fibre rims), a much higher percentage of them got chrome compared to today, and I can only presume the scarcity of chrome rims today is a cost-cutting measure. A little chrome does go a long way into making an otherwise lacklustre premium release look classy.
I don't know if the Hot Wheels scalper bubble is beginning to burst here in Ottawa but I am definitely seeing more premiums left on the pegs compared to this point a year ago. However that BASF (homage) livery BMW M1 Procar is definitely eluding me and it's easily the car I wanted the most out of the last several Car Culture waves. I also couldn't find that BMW 2-pack from around the beginning of the year.

RE Exotic Envy. I was told on good authority by various hobby dealers that there was an error with the 71 Porsche. On some models the words Good Year ended up Good Yea. Mattel subsequently attempted to recall cases and pulled cases from being released. They then opened up every single case to check the Porsches and were supposed to replace with the correct version. Every case was then then double factory sealed with a sticker placed on all 6 sides of each case box. It has been reported that some cases were then missing Porsches replaced with other cars vs correct versions. It’s also been reported that some cases with error Porsches did make it to market. While my 2 cases had no chases I did get all 4 Porsches I should have.

Wow! Pretty deep question! I think it started with a bang! and then when the excitement died out, they improved the deco and then they brought out a chase to spice things up! But yes we do see a lot of repeating themes, like slide street, exotic envy, japan historics etc. Another thing I have seen is, hot wheels takes 1 casting and immediately runs it in car culture, team transport and boulevard, not to mention they will make slight changes and do a repeat in either the walmart dioramas or the two pack car culture at targets... the variety of cars is coming down

Apart from the terrible paint, surely it’s time to complain about the plastic-looking generic rims that haven’t changed in several years. Whilst the competition is making model-specific rims, HW - with all its economies of scale - still relies on the same set of wheels that just don’t match the cars (their take on the Fuchs wheels for example seriously let down their 911s in a sea of awesome 911s out there on the market).

These two sets are somewhat boring in appearance in my opinion. Both car colors and card art is dark and neutral except for the Porsche ant Toyota. The cars don’t carry any gotcha factor for me. I’m a huge Mustang fan and while the casting is great, the boring battleship grey deco is boring and very disappointing. That’s my personal opinion. Thanks for the vids and keep em coming. Interestingly (in my opinion) the two Premium sets you're reviewing are the worst and the best of HW Car Culture. Exotic Envy 3 is a lazy, tedious set. They didn't even bother to put the Porsche logo on the front of the car. By contrast Slide Street 2 is one of the best Premium sets bar none. All are scale models of real world cars ( the Nissan Z is a drift car fitted with a GTR engine, the Corolla is Ryan Tuerk's 1000bhp drift Corolla) and (again in my opinion) the whole set is super cool and is exactly why I buy Premiums. Enjoying the new style tropical videos 😊

mini gt cars are getting really bad now

  • @Josh_Quillan
    @Josh_Quillan 2 місяці тому

    Yes, they are.
    - Some terrible model/livery selection has been going on recently. It's literal years since I've wanted to get a full set of a series. This third Exotic Envy series...who thought an Orange Reventon was a good idea, on a car that was known for being designed after stealth aircraft? Did nobody at Mattel notice how the Aston Martin V12 Speedster mainline was a massive pegwarmer? I collect Aston Martins, but I don't have any of that casting because it's just FUGLY. They wanted a speedster... and chose this one over the McLaren Elva, imagine that. And a Porsche 911 is NOT 'exotic'! It's a cool car, but the 911 is the most common sports car in the world. Want a Porsche in the Exotic Envy range? Put out a premium Carrera GT. They can do it right, the BMW proves it, but they choose not to.
    - They are too expensive; as a Japanese businessman would say, the cost-performance is not good. These cost £9 here, where mainlines are £1.50-£2.40. Yes, they have metal bases, rubber wheels, but why are they 4-6 times more than the mainlines, when they are not 4-6 times better?
    - They keep repeating models, like in Fast and Furious, the silver Chevy Nova keeps coming back, or Deutschland Design had the same Audi S5 in different colours, then it was in Boulevard and now here it is again in World Tour. So many RTR mustangs. TheMcLaren F1 pops up in Jay Leno series and now it's back in Exotic Envy 3. You have tens of thousands of cars you could make, I don't want to buy the same cars several times in quick succession.
    - They keep putting out relatively new mainlines as premiums, like the McLaren F1 or the LBWK Huracan. If I just got the mainline, my interest in buying it as a premium is lower, especially if the livery is the same. I love that Huracan but I'm not buying another near-identical one just because it's there. Couldn't you do the choc chip camo in desert or woodland colours?
    - Chases suck. Reserving black for chases is a terrible idea, black cars are too popular for that. I'd like a black GR Corolla, I genuinely would buy that if I had the chance; I'll get this yellow one if I see it but that's a big if. But I have never seen a chase, and I probably never will; I definitely won't be able to afford to buy one. Another part of Mattel's enthusiastic, crappy embrace of artificial scarcity.
The printing resolution is not a massive deal to me but it's not ideal. I heard that the reason is that it's a new process that allows them to print every side of a car, and that's a real advance that's worth allowing them to work the kinks out.
But the no.1 problem for me: Mattel's shitty distribution methods mean I can't find premiums. The supermarket I shop at recently started stocking them, and it has lots of Exotic Envy 3 (never the Porsche) and nothing else; the toyshop on the retail park I rarely go to has some, but I barely ever have a chance to go there. By contrast seven shops near me have mainlines. British Amazon doesn't sell them, and most other online shops charge a fortune for delivery. I used to live in Japan and Japanese Amazon sold individual, specified Hot Wheels premiums and mainlines no trouble, prime delivery on release day or even earlier. Hey, Mattel, makers of the world's most popular toy, maybe co-ordinate your business with the world's biggest retailers a bit better? Amazon killed all the toyshops, you need someone to sell your products, guys... And where are the new premiums? Where are the silver series semi-premiums? I want to buy them, but nobody sells them here. Mattel are sending cases to UA-camrs to build hype, and then they aren't in the shops. I'm suffering from hype fatigue, I'm sick of not having realistic chances of actually buying these things.

I remember when HW came out with the Car Culture set in the beginning, I was excited for pretty much all the cars in the various sets. But now I don’t collect all the cars in the sets. Firstly I don’t have the space and/or money to get it shipped to Denmark from the US. Secondly I think there’s to many repeats or carry over from previous Car Culture sets. Yes the cars come in various colors and such. And then there’s the color scheme. I don’t always like the colors or the color scheme. Let’s take the GR Corolla. I like the car, just not fan of the RainX and the yellow color scheme, so I don’t buy the car. Why couldn’t they paint the car in the original colors from the Toyota factory or some other plain normal color. And not some racing scheme. If the Toyota GR Corolla had come in a more neutral color, I probably would’ve bought the car. But now I don’t like the color, so I don’t the car - even though I like the GR Corolla IRL. However I did buy the chase GR Corolla, because I love the black car.

Agree with you on the dot matrix paint jobs, they are terrible. Mattel needs to get rid of machine they've purchased & go back to how they were doing it before. I'm 55 & my eyes are shot, I need glasses to see. Even without my glasses on I can see good enough to see how bad the paint quality is. The Porsches mustard & ketchup colors are actually the German flag colors😂. I think the CC series still has some life in it. It depends on the set I guess. I don't care for the exotic envy set & the slide street2 is ok. I want to be excited about the upcoming JH4 & Modern Classics but there's only a few castings between the 2 I'm looking forward to seeing. If these were the price of mainlines. I still wouldn’t buy them. Most models are cars that I already have other better HW versions off. LWK Lamborghini is dull Grey, the new Toyota is ruined with Rain X design.

There hasn't been an iconic car since the 80s. Everything looks the same runs the same.

I have noticed that the various set's often include the usual suspects 🙄 the so called popular castings 🙄 they don't give variety 🙄how many skyline or Porsche do you want 🙄 there are 1000s of cars out there 🙄

How could you possibly leave out the part of every slide st car is a real car in real life. And the horrible RTR liveries you mentioned was Adam Lz and Chelsea's bc racing formula drift cars. Or an older one would be Vaughn gittin Jr.

When you make millions of copies of the ugly cars and they just sit on the pegs because no one wants them yes it gets boring. Why don't hotwheels learn their lesson?

Car Culture is more hit or miss than ever before. Exotic Envy always is a miss for me, this one more than the others. Slide Street is a pretty neat idea maybe if they do it again it will be overplayed. Need more outside the box ideas - rally, vintage v8 racing, old imsa liveries, Baja trucks, lowriders maybe.

Over all not a fan of this Exotic Envy set.
    The Porsche is nice.
Lambo is not my kinda car.
I HATED the BMW, damn that is horrible. Looks like the Target logo gone mad.
    That green thing is hideous.
Mclaren F1 is nice, No complaints there.
The Slide set is a winner for me, all are keepers.
Thanks for putting these videos out there.

The BMW is a legitimate racing livery. BASF livery there are still race cars that have had that livery in the modern day

I don’t even care about buying them or looking for them. Car Culture is boring. I’m also getting tired of the rlc, overpriced and quality issues. I passed on that ugly Nissan pickup truck

Yes. Boring cars. They need to mix it up more. I left ALL the Slide Street 2 cars on the pegs. 🥱
