In Boy Scouts I used the fire start that is a block of magnesium. They are usually very cheap. Scrape of some of the block and add some tinder, strike with knife. I saw another video where a guy uses an old BIC lighter, scrape off some plastic add tinder and then roll the lighter to get flint shavings, tap into the plastic and then strike the lighter. $2 and it has fire to begin with, and they claim 3000 flicks lol

Heyyy good idea! I’ll try that, I’ve heard of it but never done it before. I have tons of bic lighters in my bag
i always use the saw side of my knife for all my stroking.
Yeah if I would have used a knife it would have been much easier
You should've tried holding the striker stationary and point the rod into the tinder and pull the rod sharply back.....much easier.
