Trust me I know the feeling. I'm catholic myself, and yet still bisexual, and to make things worse is that I have Down syndrome. I am always a victim of a lot of hate to disability intoleranters, general homophobes, and the homophobes in the Catholic Church. That caught me to be chronically suicidal, but I will remain alive no matter what.

I am currently in a Catholic school and my teacher saw girl in red paused on my computer and she said that the artist wasn’t bad. She is religious but will shut down anyone that says something homophobic, racist, xenophobic or discriminatory against other religions (if they use the bunks as an excuse because the bible says to love everyone) she say a ‘ Marauders as tik toks gay edition’ on my UA-cam tab and said that her daughter loves the Marauders and watches similar videos. She’s amazing. And we have girl in red on our class playlist and take me to church.

I'm currently a gay in a Catholic High School. It's a good time. We're not allowed to go to prom or any school dance with the same gender as us, my friends once got it big trouble for holding hands after school, and the school teachers aren't supposed to use a person's preferred pronouns or name. I'd probably get kicked out of the school for saying "gay" over the announcements, and I wish we had a gay club but that wouldn't even be thinkable at my school.

    • @supergirloutdoors
      @supergirloutdoors 3 роки тому +34

I'm also gay in a Catholic School. We also can't go to a dance with the same gender. The most rebellious I've ever felt in my life was holding hands with my girlfriend in mass. It was also terrifying. There are a few teachers who are supported and there's a shockingly well established lgbtq+ community. (Very hidden of course) lots of slit eyebrows, rolled jeans, other subtle signs. I wear rubber band pride flags on my watch. It's mildly terrifying but i only have one year before i graduate. (Also is it just me or do straight girls at Catholic schools act way way more gay than any gay person at the school?)

I’m not exaggerating, everyone there is queer and the school can’t do anything about it because we don’t have any other options then taking same sex dates to dances, our prom even has gender neutral royalty. I mean, girls hold hands and make out in the halls- teachers make (non-offensive) jokes, it’s actually a little funny.

This makes me wish that I had schoolmates I knew who were LGBTQ+. From what I can remember everyone from students to teachers were all straight. Then again I wasn't very sociable back then so I knew very few schoolmates, classmates and teachers altogether. Also I wasn't really aware of the LGBTQ+ community until after I graduated high school. Like, I heard of the term lesbian before, but didn't think much about it. Up until about 2016 I always assumed that everyone was hetero, cisgender and binary. I was unfamiliar with icons like Ellen DeGeneres, but I did read somewhere that actors Jim Parsons and Jodie Foster came out.
Anyways, one time I sang Karaoke with some school friends back in 2017. I did a song called Take me to Church by Hosier while the music video played and it featured two gay men. Then a friend chose Hayley Kiyoko's Girls like Girls, and I think those were my first real exposures to homosexuality.

In my all girls Catholic school experience, teachers used to gather the students and tell us that we can tell them if we’re gay OR if someone else is gay. We can just visit their office and “confess”. LOL! I felt so bad for the girls who actually confessed. C’mon! We also weren’t allowed to have “boy haircuts”. Basketball wasn’t part of sports because it was for boys. Thinking about it now, it was soooo bad! This was years ago though.

All of the lesbians and bi girls/enbys had trouble with the locker rooms. Being in them made me so nervous, afraid to look at the girls, afraid to be seen by the girls. Changed in the bathroom most of the time, and when I was in the locker room avoided all eye contact. Now I’m a lesbian… so that explains something.

AGHAHGAHD THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME WITH THE "*gasp* YOU'RE A LESBIAN?!" Okay so I'm homeschooled so it was backstage during one of my performances, (like in the changing rooms, nobody could hear us.) And she was saying how this older boy was really cute and she was like "oh Amber, do you like anyone?" And I was like "uhHh.. mMm" She went, "come on just tell me." So I told her that I had a smol crush on this older girl and then she went, "... OH MY GOD YOU'RE A LESBIAN?! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!" And I was just like so flustered, I was like "mHm weLl nope I hever said anything about tHaT"

Being gay in high school can suck. After I came out as bi (I realise I'm lesbian now) I was in the changing rooms getting ready. These girls (2) came over to me and said 'oh let's not get changed here (my name) may watch us' and they laughed. Also people asked me if I swinged both ways and laughed at me which made me feel ashamed. And ppl used gay as an insult. So glad I'm out of high school now.

Canada is in north America... Maybe I think it is strange cause in Brazil we don´t use only "America" to name the USA, cause that is the name of the entire continent we live in. I mean we learn that way in geography classes forever and always, and geography classes in Brazil are until last year of high school, mandatory (just like History, Math, Portuguese Language, Physical Education/ Gym classes, Biology, Chemistry in Highschool, Physics Highschool, English, Arts, those are the ones I can remember, also religious education as well but only until Highschool, mostly christian, I can be translating it wrong) and pretty hardcore lol
Sorry making nasty grammar mistakes, english is not my native language and we don´t exactly learn it for real

I go to a Catholic "all-girls" high school in Australia and a couple of us want to start a GSA but aren't sure how the school will react. In the last couple of weeks though, just before pride month started, staff put up vague posters saying stuff like "everyone is welcome here" and such. Which, like, is basically the bare minimum but maybe they might let us start a GSA since they're trying to be supportive?
(If it goes ahead, I'll edit this comment)

OKAY SO speaking of changing for PE/gym in high school, I did the same thing and ha ha it makes sense now...like I would purposely choose the row of lockers that no one else was in and change behind them, especially during swimming. Eventually I just started changing in the bathroom stalls. It all makes sense now bc social anxiety and I m not str8

I went to a catholic preschool that taught like 70% god and 30% playtime, like 0nanything else. there’s three very gay things I remember that make me the bisexual I am today:
    1. Thinking all the actors from the Bible show they played for us were hot as hell (they were a bunch of high schoolers lmao it was hilarious)
    2. I remember getting nervous whenever I was around like 5 different girls in my class
    3. There is actual evidence of me kissing another girl on the cheek, we literally have it on camera (and my conservative fam still thinks I’m straight)

I didn’t teach at a catholic school, but I was very open with the kids in my class, I taught science to 11-16 year olds. They knew I was gay, they didn’t care. Going back to my schooling, I hated having common showers after physical education. If the kids asked questions when I taught sex Ed I would answer as long as they weren’t trying to take the P. Age appropriate of course.
