    Thanks. I am a new to cooking and had the same exact issue today. In fact I was cooking beans and ended up throwing them away. I probably was not waiting long enough. You have a great little video here and make it easy to understand.

    Hi there. Not a sealing issue but thought i would share a tip to speed up time for instant pot to come up to pressure. Most of meals i make (thanks to your channel) I use the saute function so after scraping the pot to free those flavourful crusties I leave it on saute (high setting) put the lid on then switch to pressure cook. Comes up to pressure quickly for me anyway. Maybe this has been suggested already but if not I hope it helps:)

      @AMindFullMom  2 роки тому +1

      The issue with that is that most recipes are calculated using the time it takes to come to pressure with using cold liquid. I caution against using warm liquid or sautéing first unless a recipe states to do so. It can result in undercooked items

      You're right. Most recipes are counting on cold water (and in the recommended amount) to arrive at the specified cooking time. @@AMindFullMom

    Hi, I have the same pot bought here in Australia under HomeMaker Brand. I recognised the 2 lid knobs exactly the same. I think your advice with the Twist Vent Knob is right but you didn't mention the other pressure push valve beside it. This push valve (red on mine) has no spring to keep it closed so ex-factory my pot can NEVER build up any pressure due to this valve that stays open by gravity. All it does is shoot out steam to make it look like pressure. Even just one atmosphere pressure 14.4psi is enough to scald or 2nd degree burn your arm. Car radiator caps are 14psi and many drivers know how these can blow steam. Proper steam cooking is just too dangerous for these thin aluminium pots so they are almost a scam. Still I applaud your warning and help.

    Do you have any tips for an instant pot max? Mine is brand new out of the box and won’t get past 97 F with the water test or canning tests. I’ve checked everything multiple times. Unfortunately the valve on the Max is automated so there’s not much you can do besides install it correctly. My silicone ring is in correctly. I’m at a loss here. Of course I’d pick the day I had a deadline to test it.

    Instant pot pro right out of the box. Keeps steaming like crazy out of the top while preheating. Yes, the lid is sealed, the valve is closed, there’s enough liquid, the float valve popped up. The steam kinda slows for a minute and ramps back up again. It’s been 30+ mins…is this normal? And why is so much steam escaping if we’re trying to build pressure?

    • @AMindFullMom

The pro model doesn’t have the normal floppy knob. It has a stainless steel vent that doesn’t budge. The “seal/vent” button is is next to that and is set up like a light switch. Same, when it's finished with the countdown, it just takes 3-5 seconds to release all pressure with is odd cause it usually takes 30 up to more than a min. before the pin goes down.

    I have issues when I cook those meals that only needs 5 minutes. Is it because it takes more than that time to pressurize?

    • @AMindFullMom
      @AMindFullMom  3 роки тому

      I am not sure I understand the question. Are you asking why recipes that say they take 5 minutes require more time due to the time it takes to reach pressure? Or that you are finding your recipes require longer to cook than the 5 minutes under pressure? Unfortunately a lot of recipes don't include the time it takes to come to pressure and pressure to release in the total time, which can make planning hard. I try to add that in for you on my recipe cards.

    This is our second unit, and it was the same issue with both models. There is a design issue with the Float Valve in the Instant Pot. Not one of my pressure cookers, I have 5 of various sizes have ever had the problem. I have as I said, been using a pressure cooker since my mother taught me after the war (WWII) I have owned several different makes of pressure cookers, the Pressure Cookers have a spring on the Float valve to hold the seal on the lid. Actually none of these. The Float Valve is not coming up to make a sea correctly. I have replaced the Float valve (both parts) works for two or three times and then begins to not float.
    Every thing else Works as Advertised. The Stupid Float Valve even if washed every time, after about three uses I have to throw it away and replace it. Just a Dumb Design. I have used pressure cookers since I was a child being taught by my mother beginning in 1947. The instant Pot is a great convenience tool but the weak link is the Float Valve.
    A work around, is to jam the float valve closed until the internal pressure forces it closed. One should not have to do this. The Instant Pot is a virtual fool proof system but the Float Valve could use some improving. It is a dead simple design, but this is is weak point. I do not want to sound like a broken record. I have been using a pressure cooker type of pot for almost as long as I can remember being taught by my mother as a child. I am now 80 years old. My Sealing ring is clean, installed correctly, The Sealing Valve is cleaned and working correctly. My problem is the float valve, which functions I identically to all my Pressure cookers. Can as I may, replace the sea, replace the stem. clean the hole it sits in.
    The float valve refuses to consistently rise to allow pressurization of the pot.
    There are times when I have to manually hold the Float valve in place to allow the Instant Pot to come up to pressure. This is not as intended, this is not how the instant pot is designed to work. If I replace the Float valve with en entirely new float valve it works.
    This lasts about three uses. no matter how much it is cleaned. We have soft water so it is not an invisible calcium built up. I have also tried cleaning the Float Valve in Vinegar, in CLR, ETC Soap and water works just fine. Maximum uses int three times and the Float Valve has to be 1. held manually until the pressure comes up, 2. Replace the Float Valve.
    I like the concept of the instant pot, I use it to make Soup all the time, Chile some times, Spanish Rice some times, Mostly Soup, so the content is a very liquid base. No body at the Company will acknowledge the issue. Which is not helpful.

    • @AMindFullMom

      I am SO sorry to hear this. And I am extremely dissappointed the company is not acknowledging the issue. Your unit does sound defective--or at least the lid and you deserve a new unit.
