Guitars on point all thru the demo. The harmonies between Louise and Nina tho. Absolutely incredible. Minty Fresh knew they were signing a quality band.
I know the feel , I don’t listen to them a whole lot anymore , but every time I revisit their albums , it’s like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time lol
Early demos from so many bands have a tremendous, even earth[soul]-shaking inspirational quality, a passion, raw beauty. Especially in early live performances. I wish artists could retain that as they grow and hone their skills. I guess some probably do. I really like the roughness or looseness, lack of precision, and simplicity !! Although, these demos are pretty tight. Lyrics from early songs also often hit deeper.
They were awesome I was fortunate enough to see them at Empty Bottle and Lounge Ax before they really blew up. Their sound was those angelic voices over metalish guitars. It was killer. I'm happy they got back together. Some people wrote them off as grunge lite/pixes breeders soy d alikes but that's not correct. They definitely had their own sound.....as evidenced here. They ROCK and that's all that's important.
Absolutely. My greatest 90s regret? That I didn't find them sooner. The honest truth. I could have really used American Thighs at the time it came out. Had no CLUE that there was so much more than Seether. Better late than never, I guess.
I was at empty bottle on 7/24/94, which was my 21st birthday. I literally turned 21 just after midnight and it was a midnight show. They were up and coming. It was the “hot ticket. I remember Adam Duritz from counting Crowes was playing quarters out in front on western before the gig. They had just played earlier in the day at Old St Pat’s carnival. The empty bottle staff saw my ID and that it was my birthday and the first drink was on the house. What a great gig and great indoctrination into the Chicago rock scene at the clubs.
I'm proud of teenaged me for seeing through the media bullsh- and finding this amazing band. Saw them at First Ave in Mpls just as they were taking off. Bands need all sorts of gimmicks to sound good today...these folks just came in an rocked. They were polished without drone lights or viral videos. RIP the 90s.
Those 90's Northside clubs had great sound, little stages in front of spaces packed just close enough, and tight rock bands ( if it wasn't a SUPER tight rockabilly group ). I'd drive over from Michigan early so I could shop at those used guitar shops ON THE SAME STREET as Lounge Ax! Always worth the trip.
Almost identical to the album cuts, just like-fi. They are about like, 8 years older than me, something like that...I started playing guitar and bass in 1994. Going back and listening to them now, I'm kind of floored at the quality of their musicianship, especially at such a young age...PS- that laugh at the end of "All Hail Me". And getting married on Halloween is such a 90's thing to do...I think I was "supposed" to marry 2 or 3 women on Halloween at various times...and never did. Not on Halloween, or any other day, either. Man, thank God...
This is fantastic! was looking to see what precursors the band may have recorded before the first album came out. Knew their had to be some sort of recorded material before they signed to Geffen, even Minty Fresh.
They did a show in my home town of Northampton in 1995. That day when they were setting up we witnessed Nina and Louise outside of their tour bus having a HUGE SCREAMING MATCH on the street outside club. Don’t know what it was abt but it was very heated. Didn’t know who they were but got tickets to see them that night! Fan ever since. Love this great demo!
I downloaded these w/ a bunch of stuff from one of the fan sites (don't remember the name) back in the dial-up days of the mid-'00s. The quality here is much better, though, I think.
I love hearing Steve's bass up in the mix at the start of Get Back.

All Hail Me has an extra special sick riff here!
Those harmonies, man.
Love hearing this! The harmonies on Wolf have always left me in awe a little..so good!
Always will love Veruca Salt. No matter the place in the earths rotation around the sun.
I know the feel , I don’t listen to them a whole lot anymore , but every time I revisit their albums , it’s like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time lol
AHHHH THE 90'S 💯
Wow, Louise going bonkers with that solo at the end of Halloween Day. Why on earth was that track never released?
I just discovered it today. Absolutely floored I haven't heard in passing before!
i thank EVERY day that I got to live through the 80/90's

I didn't see them until june 2014 in Seattle. And again latwr that week in Hollywood. Then in in 2015. Lord, we need another small venue tour!
Gosh I miss pouring over those cassette jackets and their new tape smell.
This takes me back to a shared house on Key Biscayne in 94. A big hug to Babs and Mary!

Scorpio vs Sagittarius + hormones
@@davidpar2 Nina is a Scorpio?!? This explains so much!
This is AWESOME!!! Thank you posting this!!!!!
Amazing
They were so good! I hear a lot of Juliana Hatfield in their sound: strong songs with grungey guitars and girly vocals.
Absolutamente brillante!

Get Back wound up pretty sleepy on American Thighs, like the rest of the album. It's good to heard it wild.
1993
Fight me.
Starcrawler brought me here!
Perhaps even better than the original, less polished.
