It’d be interesting a video about Bikini Kill, Riot Grrrl movement or even the metal band Kittie. They were barely out of high school and became one of the most influential all-women nu-metal bands in the late 90’s. They experienced a lot of sexualization by grown men in the industry, misogyny & yet they stood by their beliefs & what they were looking for. I acknowledge them as the female pioneers of nu-metal.
Kittie supremacy
totally!!
and x-ray spex!
YES! And please include Sleater Kinney!
OMG YES
Thank you for this retrospective. Veruca Salt was my favorite band in 1997-1998 when I was 13/14 years old. I saw them three times. I remember their “leather jumpsuit” phase, and my friends and I brought them flowers at a show in Columbus. We met them before the show and they were just the best. They didn’t treat us like stupid kids, and they were really receptive to us. They brought the flowers on stage and pointed us out, I thought I was going to throw up from the excitement of the whole thing lol. Louise was and is my personal favorite, but I love them both the most when they’re making music together. I loved Ghost Notes. I hope they do another album again.
I adored this band, I remember jamming put to "Volcano Girls" in the opening credits of "Jawbreaker." Shame that they broke up soon afterwards.
Trinaq who are you and why are you EVERYWHERE
Yess that’s where I discovered them!
Seather was the only track i loved
Jawbreaker has been my and my sisters favorite movie for years. We saw it in theaters and freaked out when we heard the beginning track. We lost our minds.
My favorite thing about this channel is how they get me THIS invested on a topic that's completely new to me. Never heard of the band before, but now I have to listen to their discography or I'll perish. Thank you, love your videos! ♥︎
Your editing is so cute and on point! Well done!
Veruca Salt represents the mid 90's Alternative era...when Riot Grrrl bands were becoming more popular..."Seether" was an MTV regular for their everyday rotation in 1995...Bikini Kill and Huggy Bear were on TV too but not in the way Nina and Louise were...Veruca Salt would host MTV spin-off shows and do all the interviews asked of them...Kathleen Hanna isn't the type to obey some big suits from executive corporate yada hoopla...that's what makes Nina and Louise special because kids were exposed to them early on...
That was there hit
Veruca is indeed a very underrated fictional character. Seems like she deserves a lot more recognition somehow.
I see you a lot in comment sections lol.
Damn fine opinion and? I haven’t seen you anywhere 😂
The last two songs of American Thighs "25" and "Sleeping where I want" are such cathartic pieces... Definitely one very leyered record... I would love to watch an exploration of Isabelle Huppert's career with your very unique touch. Such an inspiration
sleeping where i want is my favorite off the record
not done with the video yet but I loved your Fiona Apple video, these are some of my favorite artists and I love your timeline, descriptions and general video style. Everything about the interjection of lyrics, the written out quotes, your voice, it all ties together beautifully
i've been a hardcore fan of V. Salt from the beginning, and you still managed to find pictures, and video of them that i had never seen before. great video.
Definitely! I noticed so many photos of Louise I had never seen before this. And I've looked! lol Her presentation of them is so beautiful and heartwarming. I would love for VS to do a type of documentary deal like L7 did.
@@VenusAxe oh, i would purchase a V. Salt documentary in a heartbeat!
FINALLY PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT VECURA SALT
"VECURA"? LOL!!!
Sigh. I graduated HS in 1996. VS are legends and I love to see them remembered and honored. ♥️🤘
Wow.... so Louise was the inspo for Everlong?..... that's bananas.... bananas because I feel like I should have known that. Lol.
Also..... just quietly.... compliments to @antiheroines --- absolutely fantastic coverage of the band.
Man I was so into Veruca Salt when I discovered them in high school back in the mid 2000s, I was going through a 90s music journey and they were one of the ones I came across and fell in love with. American Thighs and Eight Arms to Hold You were on repeat and i dunno, I just had a soft spot for women in alternative rock music. I eventually stumbled upon their music videos on UA-cam and loved them even more because you could just feel the friendship between Louise and Nina but all that being said, I was unaware of the fall out between the two ad all cycle they were both in during the 2000s and I didn't learn about it until maybe 2010/2011 and I remember feeling quite sad that they had such a falling out.
I remember trying out Nina's solo album but it didn't really do anything for me because it sounded a tad too poppy for my taste and I was missing Louise's harmony that I grew accustomed to hearing. I think tried out Veruca Salt's other albums when Nina was not present and instrumentally I dug it more because Louise stayed closer to the heavier Alternative Rock sound but yet as much as I adored Louise, I missed Nina's harmonies with her. LOL Those two just really complimented each other so well you know?
And then 2014 rolled around and Louse and Nina come out saying that they've made up with each other and were working on a new album together and I remember feeling so happy and thrilled to hear such awesome news. And sure enough, "Ghost Notes" was awesome. 2016 was a fun year for me personally since Garbage had come out after their 5 year hiatus with "Strange Little Birds" and then we had Veruca Salt with "Ghost Notes", it was just awesome haha.
But yeah Louise and Nina totally embody sisterhood and they're friendship that they have is something that is quite rare and it's just nice that despite all that happened, they managed to find each other.
the amount of joy I saw when I seen this video, omg 🖤
"with David Bowie" was one of my all-time favs.. the engineering on that entire album was amazing. "American Thighs" was so loose, tight and creepy..it was a shot in the dark that landed. "Benjamin" had such a smooth aftertaste and sweet frustration. Was a bit sad during the "Resolver" days. I felt like Louise was dark, haunted and holding back. Angry whispers. I understand why but I felt sad for her at that time. Same with Nina's solo career. It seemed like a misfire with a few one offs. Either of them alone is like a strummed minor guitar chord but missing 3 strings -beautiful but hollow. You could hear the absence and conflict. All these years later, with them becoming friends again and releasing "Ghost Notes" was a new major guitar chord but on a full 12 string guitar, a happy smile. I love the new material and it feels so happy and free, so old and new at the same time. You really can hear the result of healing. I missed their (reunion) tour a few years ago and ill never forgive myself. I saw footage and they were amazing. Im praying for another couple of singles before they fully retire. And about how they both "ruined the band?" well if they DID stay together, they would now probably be enemies, but in the most important years of their lives. This is life and we cannot regret our decisions or paths. they will always lead us back to where we need to be in the end of the story. God Bless
Omg I LOVE Veruca Salt! Their latest album Ghost Notes was the perfect return and it didn't sound like they ever went away. Some of the BEST vocal harmonies in music. Thanks for making this!
VS is one of my all time favorite bands! I have American Thighs and Eight Arms To Hold You On cd :)
The visuals in the videos add such a nice touch to the stories you’re telling
freakin magic. I love Veruca Salt. American Thighs is forever.
okay.....I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Thank you for this.
Big fan of Veruca Salt here and I love how in-depth this video is, your analysis of the lyrics, and the message of friendship and sisterhood. Very beautiful video too!
Veruca Salt and 90's alternative bands were a huge part of my teenage years in the early 2010's, it's awesome to see a commentary vídeo on them.
These two women absolutely rock! Especially Louise, she's awesome.....
If you did a video on Liz phair, my heart would explode (affectionate).
Every tiene that I come back to this channel there is always a very particular feeling that I just felt when I was 12 and with my best friend, maybe is the deep girl energy that you create
I've always wondered what "Wolf" was about. A few years ago, I attended a show in San Francisco featuring just Nina and Louise. The show was a departure from their standard rock concert format. It was an intimate setting where they performed an unplugged set of their songs interspersed with anecdotes about the inspirations for their songs.
Louise told the story about her cat named Wolf that fell out of the window of her apartment while she was away that day on a boat floating on Lake Michigan. It was a rather dark song and now I know why. My only regret was not recording that performance. They did announce a "no recording" advisory before the show, so I complied out of respect.
I love Veruca salt and my American thighs cd!! Riot Grrrl in general is so inspiring🤘🏼
Omg Veruca Salt, I love them so much, can't wait to watch this 💖
this video inspired me to reach out to someone i really missed. the line about everything feeling so extreme in your 20's hit hard- it's way too easy to let one big fight cause a rift and then in hindsight realize it was over something so stupid.
I love them and I love how their first album has a very much grunge sound yet they never get mentioned which is a shame
They are an alternative band not grunge
Your uploads are like morning newspaper to me 🥺💞
I absolutely love your description and completely agree 💗 and accompanied by a hot cup of tea or coffee = perfection ☺️
God I love(ed) this band. @ 12 I saw them perform 'shutter bug' and 'volcano girls' on SNL of all places, and I was hooked. 8 arms to hold you was 1 of my first cds ever. In fact I bought it twice. Once on cassette and immediately when I got my first cd player and bought it again. It's sad to me they weren't far more popular. The songs not only resonated with 12/13 yr old me, and continues to hit me in the feels to this day. They were such a breath of fresh air w/ their own sound and not just the generic 'girl band sounds which so many female led groups fell into the trap of esp in that era. The songs were raw, honest, and just the right stuff at the right time.
Long live the seether!
🧡🦇
It feels so strange to see them now as older women. In my mind they still look like they did in the 90s. It is a reminder that I'm too, getting old. I see myself in the mirror and can't belive I'm almost 40.
Loved this band. They had amazing songs in every record even after they split. Glad they resolved the bullshit and came back with more songs to love.
I knew nothing about them and still watched this whole vid! Defnitley checking out their music now
You won't be disappointed. They're so great on so many lvls. I love this band so much
🧡🦇
One of my favorite bands, sElf, mentions Veruca Salt a couple times in old lyrics, likely because they had a similar stance about non-standard progressions and pop music, and they both ended up post-peak together at last on El Camino records. Time is a crazy thing. Sure wouldn't mind some future material from either.
This is one of the best youtube videos ive ever seen about one of the best bands ive ever loved, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, my fav song almost of all time is Wolf
I just love and respect the effort put into the videos, excellent work as always!
I loosely knew the entire band back in Chicago in the early 90s...my band played many gigs at the same venues and at the time the Chicago music scene was very close knit in a way...we were all conscious of each other and supportive...and we would ultimately end up at the same parties etc.
Even before they got successful...you knew they were onto something special with their music.
Was sad when they split but was so happy when they worked things out and reformed....and put out more brilliant music together.
I ran into them at one of their shows a few years back and we chatted about the old days and the old clubs that are no longer around. They sound amazing and they have picked things up right where they left off.
Appreciate you putting to together this video. Veruca Salt too often get pegged as the "Seether" band when they are much much more than that one song.
Cheers to more Veruca Salt music and to the strength of their existing catalog.
If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to see them perform...I highly recommend you do.
Brilliant introspective video on one of my favorite bands. I only wish, on Veruca Salt’s IV album, the song “Salt Flat Epic” seemed to be a kaleidoscope of Louise’s feelings up to that point, and as a final nod, the lyric “Now I practice the art of forgiving…” is repeated multiple times at the end. Finally letting go of her negative feelings of Nina, and ready for what is in store ahead. At least, IMHO. Also, “Sick As Your Secrets” is an incredible song.
Really freaking good summary... love your personal take, and the history. Good job.
VS was one of my fav bands of the 90's. Their reunion album "Ghost Notes' is a pleasure!
COMMENTING FOR THE ALG
Thank you for this. Veruca Salt was my favorite band in High School and I still adore them. I bought the Minty Fresh release of American Thighs in Florida even though I already owned the DGC version and after YEARS of looking for it, I found Blow it Out Your Ass at a used CD store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
What a nostalgia trip 🥹
Excellent video. You really did a deep and complete approach to the band. I always enjoyed their vocal harmonies as they are very uncommon in rock. The only band I could (quickly) think did the same ‘round the era (in a pop context, I mean) was The B52’s and Alice In Chains, though they were dudes with a much more metal sound.
I was 16 or 17 when Seether came out and I loved it. Never got the albums and back then, if the band wasn’t a complete success, getting their music wasn’t that easy once the initial hype passed. Now I’m feeling the gaps.
This is the first video of yours that I watch. Will be checking the rest of your channel comtent, for sure!
Greetings from Spain!!!
Loved this video so much. I used to really love their music in high school and didn't keep up with them, so it was really cool to hear the full story. Definitely gonna dive back into their music because of this. Thank you!
Best Veruca Salt profile video I've come across. Awesome analysis, production value and narrative drive. Great job! Big Thanks from an OG Veruca fan!
wow. super great video on a band i needed to get into. knowing this story changes it all. i knew there was something special about ghost notes
@antiheroines Thank you so much for this excellent piece! I have listened to and loved Louise & Nina ever since Eight Arms was released. Their music has literally helped shape my life. I love how their lyrics relate and cut to my soul and how their riffs and melodies send me.
Thank you again!
lovelovelove nina, louise & all things VS ❤🔥tysm for making this
I’ve loved and still love American Thighs ever since it came out and never paid too much attention to the meaning of the lyrics of the songs with every listen throughout the years. After watching this and learning the meaning behind “Wolf” , I relistened to the song and started sobbing out of nowhere. I never realized how sad (yet beautiful ) this song truly is.
I'm a huge fan of your videos and commentary, and I'm so happy you honored my favorite band. They've been an integral part of my life as a woman and as a musician, and to see them talked about in such an honest and loving way is beautiful. You truly have the gift of words and your interpretations and montages are always so stunning! :)
I couldn't agree more this band was/ is so very important to me. It makes me sad how underrated they are.
🧡🦇
if you're a veruca salt fan you should check out the new trick ep by skating polly which features Nina + louise!! it's really good.
I got to go look that up rn. Veruca Salt is in my top 5 knowing there's another project with both Louise and Nina involved I must go check it out. So thank you for the info!
🧡🦇
I’m soooo happy I found this video! Veruca Salt is one of my favourite bands, their music is really amazing and the story behind the group with Nina and Louise’s trials and tribulations and eventual reunion is just so moving. This is the most in depth perspective on the band that hasn’t come from their own mouths. Awesome video!
You are my absolute favorite UA-camr rn. I watch all of your videos multiple times and share them w everyone I know. I've been subbed since your second video.
I love watching your channel grow, you truthfully deserve so many more subs and views 🌺
love this band!!!!!!!
GREAT VIDEO!! VERUCA SALT WAS MY FAVORITE GIRL LED BANDS. ALONG WITH ELASTICA. ..
20:37 that’s interesting. I always assumed that song was about Gavin Rosdale who was rumored to be in a relationship with Nina, when he met Gwen Stefani who he was rumored to have left her for.
I was lucky enough to see them twice. One time they opened up for Hole and the second time they were headlining. Both times were at Saint Andrews Hall downtown Detroit 😁
Nice timing, I started listening to Veruca Salt more lately and, there's always just going to be some nostalgia in coming back to an old favorite, but it just felt really rewarding, like these are songs I want to listen to, songs I want to sing along with. I think "David Bowie" is my favorite right now. I didn't keep up with their work after "Eight Arms", now I want to come back to them, get the other albums. I guess they're done with the reunion thing at present - pity, it would have been cool to see them live.
i’ve never heard of these guys before- so not only do i get to be introduced to new music, i also get to be blessed by ur amaziNG editing style
Great video!!! I’m a big Veruca Salt fan!!! So much so I named my French Bulldog Veruca Salt , “ Roux” for short. I graduated high school in 1994 , Veruca Salt music reminds me of my fun college days. Love these ladies so much. 🖤🖤
I grew up in Chicago during this time and my friends are I were music freaks. I can say that American Thighs and blow it out your ass sounds just like 90s Chicago in the fall. ALSO the heroin scene was very real. My first VS concert we went to the lemonheads factory before and got high. We ended up being kicked out of the metro as they came in stage. They broke up after that. 20 yrs later When they got back together I finally got to see them in our hometown of Chicago. They were amazing and v worth the wait
Great documentary for an incredible band, thanks!
love this band
I love everything about this band period!
I love watching this video over and over, it’s such a crime it doesn’t have more views 😢 so excellently written and researched, and the editing and visuals are so fucking professional and unique and just GORGEOUS OKAY?! I look forward to each and every video you post (especially those sweet 30+ min ones 🥹)
I really really love your channel. Thank you for this.
I loved this video. Thank you!
I’m obsessed with Veruca salt! Nicely done documentary!! I loved the funny parts about Dave grohl
This is such an amazing documentary thank you so much for making and putting all the time into it. now I feel that I understand so much more about all the songs Veruca Salt has written and sung , and of course Nina and Louise's relationship.aka The Sisterhood. I'm glad that now they're back together again as friends end musicians.
I love this so much!!
Love this video, thank you!

This is an amazing documentary on veruca salt. I love them, j got both cds. Thank you for making it. I feel so much more smarter as I understand more about them and the meaning of their songs. And their life's journey
I truly wouldn't be where I am without finding Veruca Salt a few years ago. I wouldn't have gotten deeper into music or loved it the way i love it now.
the editing of your videos is so nostalgic and immaculate.
Thank you
i love you’re videos so much !!!!!!!!
Their story reminds me a lot of the anime Nana. I would love to see you make a video on Nana. It’s one of the best anime I’ve ever seen and it does amazing job with showing how important friendships between women can be.
If the anime ever gets rebooted they should definitely use the song loneliness is worse!
Wowwww I always look forward to ur videos, you always put ur heart and soul into them 💓 keep up the good work!!
That was really well done! I love that band.
Thanks for this.
Awesome video! Love Veruca Salt! ❤
I just discovered this channel and it’s a dream. You’re content is genuinely amazing please keep it up💖💖
This was super nice. Gave me what I didn't know I needed. I always look to Veruca Salt with nostalgia but never knew the depths of the bands journey. Thank you.
i love your stuff so much!

I love this video, thanks god I discovered this channel
THANK YOU!!!!
American Thighs is a classic from start to finish. Thank you for giving this great band it’s props. Liked and subbed.
u told their story very well!
Eight Arms To Hold You was one of my top albums of the 2000s. Benjamin is my vibe check.
