"I was speechless watching this guy. He was absolutely phenomenal. A phenomenal drummer." (James LaBrie at Dream Theater Drummer Auditions 2011) Personal note: Good thing Marco Minnemann went to Steven Wilson.😉
Such musicl finese, so tasty, groovy and colorful mastery... I just can't believe my eyes and my ears. Thank Marco for inspire me and making me wanna play more and more
Along with Gergo Borlai and Virgil Donati, Marcos creativity and orginality are examplirary for sure, as witnessed in how he just takes this solo in so many directions, yet he showcases a masterpiece in all of those directions.
Style over substance imho. It's just pure rudiments in application. Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta or Dylan Elise take the biscuit soloing, not to mention they don't have such elaborate kits.
Amazingly, I also don't see Dave, Vinnie, or Dylan here putting down other drummers online. Really sets apart the professionals from nameless UA-cam commenters :) One of Vinnie's licks is literally just Paradiddles with a few rests thrown in... and Dave has played pretty elaborate kits over the years. It might be worth just listening and learning rather than worrying about who is the best, because that's just childish. I'm a big fan of Dave, Vinnie and Marco (not to mention others). They all have something unique to offer, and rather than criticising you should maybe try and find things Marco does that you like, and then steal them :)
@@davidpardyIt's the musicality that's missing mate! Full stop, period! Speed ain't everything which even Vinnie, of all drummers, mentioned in one of his interviews. Getting personal, calling someone childish & saying that expressing one's opinion is what differentiates professionals from nameless yt creators is kindda below the belt. I've been playing drums my entire life - about 40 yrs, since I was 6, played in various bands and yet life made me earn for my family in different ways than playing, and yet I still play 'coz I love the instrument. And I kindda can tell the difference between different styles of playing/soloing. Btw you haven't mentioned Dylan Elise in your detailed elaboration. Could it be because his solos are so musical, in comparison, that there is actually no comparison, or you are just unfamiliar with him. You could borrow some of his chops 😁.
@@BiKikey Musicality is subjective and I completely disagree with you. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not musical. I notice you also ignored the comment I made about fills using rudiments. I haven't heard Dylan in several years, so of course I'm not going to comment. I recall that he was (and presumably still is) very talented. But there are many drummers out there who could be called highly skilled, and skilled technicians. I'm not quite sure why you've had to tell me your life story. And once again, Dave, Dylan and Vinnie aren't here criticising Marco, it's you. I know who I'll be taking my lead from. I know who they are, no idea who you are and I don't care to.
@@davidpardy You got personal with me, that's why I shared a bit of personal info so that you know that nameless doesn't mean clueless. I did look up your YT channel and I get why you might be inspired by this kind of soloing. Ain't a big name yourself are you and you seem to speak from a professional highhorse. Yeah they are not here criticizing 'coz they got better stuff to do and I'd love nothing less than spend my days on the drumkit like them. We ain't all that lucky though. It was you that started getting personal and now you don't care. Nice.
The best thing my ears have landed on all week! One of the most creative and musical players of our time!
