I remember when the ehx holy grail was the only real option I could buy locally for a reverb pedal when I was first trying to find a reverb pedal. Amazing how far we’ve come since then.
I'm a serious reverb and delay junky. That Poly Verb is the most exciting reverb thing I've seen in a long while. I'll end up getting one. Thanks guys, for breaking down the creation of algorithms into that pedal. The idea of that capability is quite limitless in the sounds you can invent or capture. My imagination runs on stuff like that.
Same here. There s just something so great about the Polverbs. The quality and depth of the revrerbs just seem to be on another level than even other great reverbs. I like em all but, there is something almost magically opulent about may of the patches on the Polyverb. I'm actually thinking about sellling one of my vintage Lexicons to get one.
@@philipdonovan5127 I finally got around to ordering the Poly Verbs, it's on the way now. But now I should sell one of my other pedals, the Avalanche Run is the likely candidate.
I spent years buying chorus, flanger, phaser and a ton of other pedals when the whole time all I needed was a Strymon Flint. I'll never get rid of that thing. Love Reverb!!!
They're great. I notice you see them on so many pro pedal boards. Maybe more so that the Big Sky. It's not just the Flint pedal, thought it's a great one. It's combination of a great reverb, and a tremelo. It's why people love the Fender Deluxe Reverb. It's reverb and 'vibrato' circuit are maybe the best thing about that amp. Mercury X is my favourite pedal these days. Would love if UA woulda add tremelo algorithm to the Del-Verb, that can be switched in instead of a delay, with some kind of magic foot tap/button press sequence. Because it's my favourit Spring algorithm, and the plate is great too.
Similarly it was amps, overdrives and fuzzes for me but then I had a realisation that it was delay, reverb and then the pedals like Keeley’s 30ms that truly make a difference in bridging the gap between amp in the room versus recorded sounds. Pedals that are akin to studio pixie dust

Love the Crimson at the top 😅!!! Seductive. Massive presence and character without getting in the way. The most organic way to turn the guitar into a synth like sound.
I don’t see Ventris make the big time shows too often. Mick’s comment about needs (features) says it all. For most rock/blues. It seems like the Flint (not even the blue sky) covers the bases. I also agree with his comment that reverb is spaces.

I really appreciate you two including that Oceans pedal. I've been looking for a bit of justification for my reverb choices... I bought my Oceans 11 years ago (for the shimmer) as an addition to the spring reverb in my amp. I've since bought a Neunaber Wet, and a Slotva, and the oceans box always comes back to the board. Ditto on the Oceans 11. I love the spring setting, the pre-delay feature is a godsend and it's even got a pretty usable tremolo. A real swiss army knife pedal for not too many £££s.
Seeing Mick doing all that new fangled computery jazz like a pro does my DSP (I mean heart) good. I can’t wait to see a Jet Revelation reverb on this show. Super powerful, small package. Love the poly verb.
Thanks guys, this week I joined ye in wet/dry/wet heaven. Got a Marshall Studio ST20 to use as dry amp. To pair with VOX AC L/R wet amps, that I used in stereo before. Love my Mercury X. So I've switched the Mercury X over the sends of my mixer to use with my synthesizers (Prophet, Moog, Peak, GR-1, Digitone), instead of the guitar. Because Del-verb mostly did a great job for guitar. And I can use Mercury X with more sources, and in mixing, if it's on the mixer stereo sends/returns. It's almost too powerful to dedicate to just one source - it's my main studio reverb now. Yip, Mick just said same about his CXM, that computes. And yeah, like Eventide ... but better in some ways, and cheaper.
Just purchased a Poly Verbs. The sounds, simplicity and UI meaning you can see the details behind any preset sold it to me. Can't wait to start using reverb as a conscious effect instead of just a slight tone sweetener. I think pairing it with my thermae is going to be a super creative experience
My favorite natural reverb I have stubbled across was the "high end" acoustic room of the Guitar Center at the South Center Mall in Tukwila, Washington, because every time you hit G, A, D, or E the 30 instruments on the wall would all resonate along with you and ring out in a kind of "swell" reverb. It was amazing.
I recently spent 3hrs in a rehearsal studio programming my Neunaber Illumine through the Boss ES8 and there is no way I ever, in a million years, would have gone close to that territory without you guys. Sorry I'm not using GigRig but I will soon invest in the Three2One. You're legends and we love you.

Such a cool field trip to the shitstore and murder barn. Thank you taking the time and effort to do that. I hope it was enjoyable. And to anyone involved in the making of this who would otherwise simply prefer to twiddle knobs for a wysiwyg experience, your sacrifice is appreciated. ;-)
Great episode Lads. There’s no question… each of these digital reverbs have their own sound. I have the Strymon Trifecta and love all three. The only thing I’d do differently is possibly go with the Boss MD-500 as I think the Boss modulation sounds are bit closer to an analogue vibe. On my small practice/fly board I have some drives connected to a Quartermaster going into a Line 6 HX Effects and while this setup works, I find when I play through it I miss the sound of my big Schmidt Array G3 based board. There’s no question that this is a golden age of effects and there’s an option for everyone.
I love Verb. My collection has a lot of the industry selections. Cloud, Realizer, Tre-Verb, Spash, HOF, Topanga, even made a couple. But the one that truly surprised me was the Mooer R-7 imho best budget reverb on the market.
Absolutely great episode gents! Love the Two Rock lead channel!!! But, I have to give you props for loading the Fifty Fifty into the matching rack cab! I’ve always paired mine with a Mesa Studio Preamp, but using it for W/D/W is a killer setup!
Thanks for another amazing show, gentlemen! Lots of good tones from all of those pedals, but that Meris is arrestingly good. Amazing fidelity and width.
I bought myself a Strymon UltraViolet for Christmas. It stopped working correctly, used it about 12 times. Strymon have been assisting to be fair. It's now going back to to the retailer, who are sending on to a UK Official repair centre. I'll let you know how it goes. But thus far, fair play, all concerned offered to help immediately. That can only be a good thing.
Thank you so much for all the work put in this. The most unique feature of any pedal was shown for the first time in this episode, and that’s when the Poly became an archive of stories. Imagine when you’re on a stage and you recall the preset of your private kitchen or a murder barn or the room of your child. It will affect your brain and your playing I guess. Also, collector of reverbs seems such an Alan Lomax experience. Anyways, thanks again. I loved watching this.
This was very interesting guys and I have to say Mick that "Murder Barn" is the absolute coolest name for a Reverb EVER!!!!!! Thank you Mick and Dan for going down these rabbit holes for us!!! Have a great weekend!!!
It has been a long time since I used Fast Fourier Transforms to generate IRs, but last time I did, I used "Room EQ Wizard". I haven't checked if that still exists, but after the initial learning curve, you could get the "R" value of a room, and the Frequency Response of a room, and the response over time, and generate an IR for that exact room, and (probably) load that into your consumer IR pedal product. Last time I did it, I used filter sweeps, and a measurement mic, and one, then a pair of studio monitors placed exactly with careful tape measure use. Have fun! Thanks for the vid. With the Boss 200 series, you can enter the configuration mode and increase the number of available presets via the front face button. By default it is set to 4+manual but you can increase that. The DD-200 I have I keep at 8+man available via the memory footswitch
Brilliant show! Very, very impressive batch of 'verbs. I really don't need massive programibility, but it's really cool to see that effects are still evolving in terms of both the creative and interface capacity. I fell in love with the sound of the Mercury 7 when I heard you guys demo it, also OBNE's Black Fountain some years ago. Sometimes a thing just grabs your attention. Well a bit of a different topic guys but i was watching a pedal pawn Texan twang video when I hit on an idea. I generally use a couple of drive pedals into a clean amp a ds1 and boost it with a tube screamer or a blues driver. The Texan twang to me seems like a kind of treble boost. having used and loved the boss pedals for years I know the tone control can be really sharp past 9 o'clock on the blues driver. So I thought I try to use the blues drive as a kind of treble boost into the Ds1, I put the level past half way the tone nearly all the way round to three o'clock and a bit of drive about 9 o'clock, well massive smile on face it sure does give you this massive clean driven tone aka Stevie Ray. Job done guys worth a try.
That's a good discussion. I've never cared for features that much in a pedal. Always preferred pedals that do a single thing very well over pedals that just do a lot of things, because I know i will only be using one sound anyway. I've even build multiple pedals that only have a single knob (which actually is more work, to make it work well).
i think it is maybe the 3rd time i’ve watched this one _ definitely, of my favourites . The Boss is brilliant ( they all are ), and it probably will be the one i get 1st , but the one that won my heart is the Poly verb. Those IRs are geeky..but damn fun, man. thank you for this, yet again, guys kudos from Portugal
Just got to the RV200 part. I have the OD200 and I'll vouch for the good mix of "top panel" utility and under the hood flexibility. Nice to see this range of pedal getting some love.
The EHX Holy Grail was my first reverb pedal, which I happily traded for a Thorpy Muffroom cloud. That little one is great though, with that pre-delay knob! I always prefer a longer one, so your initial note is clearer. Boss did a great Fender spring pedal that is discontinued, but I expect you can get that sound in the REV 200. The Poly is amazing.
As I expected…AWESOME episode!! 2 Things: 1) Make those IR’s available for download (for a small fee of course) 2) “Mick’s Kitchen” has gotta be the title of a high tempo instrumental Texas shuffle using the appropriate IR :-) Fabulous work lads! Made my day!!
This was the BEST!!! Totally raising my hand to be amongst the ones "desperate to hear it". Reminded me of growing up on the farm and experimenting with all manner of blowing things up, welding them together, creating canon. How incredibly cool was the Poly Verbs journey! Long may the Shit Store ride!! Dan totally adapted his playing to the Murder Barn. I can definitely see going back to the Shit Store and recording Mark II. Ever drop stones down a deep well? Ours was pumping at 1,200 feet... Amazing episode.
If the Poly had real sliders and buttons instead of the touch screen controls, that’s the one I would get. But since it doesn’t, I’d go with the Boss reverb.
Wow I never thought I'd see the day that you could have an entire abandoned cooling tower on your pedalboard. I'm just imagining the boys' faces when I show up to the next practice with an abandoned cooling tower.

Those IRs are geeky..but damn fun, man.
thank you for this, yet again, guys
kudos from Portugal
The MX300 is good bang for your buck too. It has the shimmer setting too.
Just got to the RV200 part. I have the OD200 and I'll vouch for the good mix of "top panel" utility and under the hood flexibility. Nice to see this range of pedal getting some love.
The balloon stuff was fun!
And I've always wanted reverb on the horn.
The hiwatt always posted up back there menacingly and glorious to behold 🤤
The dog bark reverb got me. 🐕🤣
Make sure you keep that forever. What a sound.
The Poly is amazing.
got the big sky, it's a keeper, mainstay on my board.
While watching this I kept thinking I have got to go and rewatch the Andertons show on the Poly Verb. That was a ton of fun.
always great episode when Rosie's in it
As I expected…AWESOME episode!!
2 Things:
1) Make those IR’s available for download (for a small fee of course)
2) “Mick’s Kitchen” has gotta be the title of a high tempo instrumental Texas shuffle using the appropriate IR :-)
Fabulous work lads! Made my day!!
Hahaha! I’ll see if I can upload the IRs to Loki’s site maybe. Free of course!
The poly stuff was brilliant
Lovely “double” episode!! ❤
That Poly thing is awesome and i really enjoyed the field trip!
The GFI System Specular Tempus is an underrated reverb. And not even expensive.
Epic! I think toneverse is a multiverse! Love is reverb!
Thanks guys. Great stuff. Isn't funny how we associate delays and reverbs with outer space when sound does not travel in the vacuum of outer space?
THIS! Awesome.
That ts1 sounds so good it doesn't need any reverb!
(headphones and loud required) The demonic laughter at exactly 16:44 is amazeballs
This demands rewatching. Well done gents! I was very surprised at how good the sound was from the 'murder barn' lol.
Just playing around and being curious. I love it! 😃
Mix sounds great. Makes sense to have the more detailed WGS12L's on the outside for a wider spread.
This was absolutely fascinating. Thanks gents!
