CalFire uses there wonderful aircraft as fire spotters. They lead the tanker to site of the blaze. I watched them work all day yesterday, and they are back today. Awesome.
Here in the state of California the Department of forestry has OV-10s I believe they use him for fire spotting and guiding in large firebombers to their drop zones
I hope they keep their planes in their tanks of World War II and keep them and make sure we can find some more and restore all of them that's our heritage
Juat saw this for the first time this weekend. What an amazing looking plane! Loved it. Reminded me of the drop ship in Aliens :) was this ever used for any sort of combat?
Of course. Primary USAF and US Army Forward Airborne Observer craft in the mid to late Vietnam war. That's what it was designed for. Loitered low over South Vietnam taking potshots from the VC for hours, using WP rockets to mark targets for fast mover airstrikes. Rocket and gun strikes on the Trail. Mounted quad 7.62mm M60s or a 3bbl 20mm cannon for light attack duties on troop concentrations. But it's primary use and intent was to bring down airstrikes and artillery on the enemy, and it probably did more damage that way than most aircraft can claim, even if it didn't carry the bombs itself. It's not a heavy hitter, but it does good at what it does.
This is the top ace OV-10 pilot in Germany they chose to fly for the demo? I'm no OV-10 expert but that takeoff and lnading looked pretty mediocre to me. Surely he could have lifted off sooner than that. The landing might be more understandable, the bouncing, etc, since the wing has so much lift maybe it's hard to land. Not sure if they included spoilers...but you'd think the L part of STOL was as important as the T part.
I would love to own one of these jems. l I believe that the OV 10 would be a great choice for air evacuation unit as well as other civilian based jobs.
Whats not to like i am a fan of the ugly ducklings of the aircraft world in fact i bloody love them its ok to like the usual fast jets and what not but a little love for the these massively unappreciated aircraft wouldn't go a miss
It was not acquired by marcos. This was delivered in the early-mid 90's. I was at sangley when the first ov-10's were delivered. Marcos acquired the T-28 colloquialy known in the Philippines as "tora-tora"
Our air force still have one of these I love the sound of ov 10 from above
🇵🇭🇵🇭
I'm so glad I found this! I'm starting a 1/72 OV-10 'Cal Fire' version. Very helpful!

My dad worked on those at Rockwell North American in Columbus, Ohio. I remember seeing them fly overhead as a kid. Cool as hell looking
A great little aircraft... that still has a place in the world.
ironwolfF1 still in the service with philippines airforce and rocking hard against the rebels and still superior close air support.

After the F-4 Phantom this OV-10 Bronco is my favorite Vietnam era aircraft
I worked the flight line for these back in the early 70s while in the Marines at New River NC.

That is one cool aircraft!
fun fact, these came equipped with ejection seats... awesome plane
First version of that plane I saw in 64 was on the Johnny Quest show.I thought it was fictional until I saw the real thing fly out of AKER AFB.
I hope they keep their planes in their tanks of World War II and keep them and make sure we can find some more and restore all of them that's our heritage
I don't think I've ever seen a plane that looks like the OV-10...
Incrível!
I think those Horsehoes on the tail are from the Marine Corps VMU2 Squadron which no longer exists since they got rid of that role.
John Wayne VMO-2.
One flew over my house this afternoon. USCG plane
Don't forget counterinsergence opps with the Broncos.

Yes light attack.

it can be a low altitude bomber as well. I can see it carrying LAW rockets ,or a 40mm semi-auto bushmaster cannon.
OV - 10 Bronco good for COIN mission
I would get one and turn it to a back country bush plane
I love these ww2 classics airplanes! Hope they will properly maintain this bird in flying condition.
Aerohk: curb your enthusiasm-that "warbird" flew the first time in 1965 !!!
