  • Our Canucks reporter Jeff Paterson from @Canucks_Army & @rinkwidevancouver recaps a wild finish to Game 3 between the #Canucks & #Oilers. From the slashing and cross-checks involving Connor McDavid, Nikita Zadorov & Carson Soucy; to the goaltending of Stuart Skinner and Arturs Silovs and Brock Boeser & Elias Lindholm lighting the lamp, we break it all down while looking ahead to Game 4 on Tuesday.

if Soucy gets suspended so should McDavid for the 2-handed chop that started it. (not to mention carving up Hughes)

But that didn’t happen to the NHL’s golden boy.

Naw. The crosscheck was worse. But the slew-foot by Kane and the spear to Hoglander’s nutsack were worthy of suspensions.

Agreed! That was far more intentional than Soucy’s crosscheck.

There should be a promo ad for the Canucks with Silovs on all fours with a saddle on his back , on a trail to the cup with a picture of the Canucks on his back. Riding Silovs to the Cup. Can do things like that myself but to lazy.

At the start I thought Kane and Nurse were gonna be the ones to make a difference either positive or negative and I'm not wrong to this point.

This is how you get a good rivalry. Too many teams in this league are too friendly/indifferent to each other. You gotta get your hate on in the playoffs! C'mon man!

@@joerenner8334 This year the Canucks are 6-1 against the Oilers, so miracles are not required. Good goal-tending is required. Bear in mind that Silovs in #3 on the depth chart. Demko has started skating again but DeSmith can play as required and he was 2-0 against the Oilers in the reg season, goals against .925 and .970. The Oilers have very average goal-tending and a very average defence.
The reality is that the Oilers are the ones needing a miracle. They won 1 out of 7 contests against Van this year, now they need to win 3 of the next 4. Possible but not very likely imo.
Edmonton has stars, incredible players, world class. Van has four D who are 6'6" and above, Zadorov is 250lbs of mean, Myers is 6'8" and 230 lbs, two others around 6'2" who are heavy and like to hit. Ian Cole has 2 cups. And then there is Hughes. Up front, Miller is a beast. Most of the forwards finish their checks. Oilers stars are getting ground down by all that, then encountering a big goalie who stands on his head to stop pucks. Not fun for the Oiler's stars to contend with.
All year the Oilers have acted like they 'should' win every contest against the Canucks. That has been a very bad assumption. The fact is that the Canucks ought to be feared. Even now, post-game comments from the Oilers show no respect for the team that keeps beating them. They say Silovs got a bit lucky, saved by his goalposts 4 times but he stopped 42 shots. That isn't luck. The Oilers still have no respect for their opponent, even now.

@@joerenner8334 A miracle? Doubtful. Game 3 we just needed Boeser and Silovs pretty much. Doesn't Boeser play against your top line of McDavid and Drisaitl. He got 3 points, Mcbaby got zilch.

    Great stuff boys!
    Quinn Hughes ice time: 21:14
    Evan Bouchard ice time: 31:24
Wow that’s surprising. Not sure what that says exactly-whether Quinn’s dealing with some underlying injury, or whether this spread out ice time is simply indicative of the Canucks’ depth on D. But Tyler Myers leading the D with 22:56, with Silovs in net, backstopping an away win in Edmonton in the playoffs? Wish I could’ve seen the Vegas odds on that parlay 😛
Close to 30 minutes for McDavid/Draidaitl, while Petey played 15:49 shows this Canucks team still has so much room for improvement! I’m not convinced either Connor or Leon are going to slow down though, so I’m not exactly encouraging them to play 30 minutes a game as if that’s somehow helping the Canucks.
It feels like a penalty kill every time those guys are on the ice and it’s simply unreal how management hasn’t given that team a goaltender. I forget if it was you guys or Donnie Dhali who mentioned it but this year was Pickard’s only season in 7 seasons where he had a save % above .900 so it seems safe to assume Skinner’s going back in. Where’s Jack Campbell through all this? I thought he’d at least be the backup, but yeah either way I’m happy it’s Edmonton media that gets to worry about goaltending for a couple days while Canucks are hoping to build off this confidence that we’re all developing in Silovs.
Considering Skinner allowed 5 goals in game 1, including Garland’s game winner that he’d love to have back, and then gave up that 3-2 goal to Zadorov from the goal line, I’m surprised there wasn’t more negative attention on Skinner before this. Winning masks everything but if the Oil don’t tie it up in the 3rd and win that game, wouldn’t the narrative have been entirely on Skinner costing them both games?
This was just such a massive win, my goodness. So much work left to do in this series but the Canucks deserve to be playing with all the confidence in the world and I’m very proud of how they’re coming together as a team.
