That Ewok reaction was the height of wholesome.

It has everything: Action, a great story, an awesome finale with multiple epic showdowns in space and on land, there was an additional interesting villain who was not part of the Empire for once, and then there were the amazing Ewoks. Perfection!

George Lucas created the Ewoks because he wanted Return of the Jedi to feature a tribe of primitive creatures that bring down the technological Empire. So, do you see now what I meant about how Luke’s abandonment of his training to go to help his friends on Cloud City seemed like a mistake but was actually a forerunner to what made him ultimately the right Jedi for the job? It was his idealism and willingness to believe in the little bit of “good” he still sensed in his father (when other Jedi like Obi-Wan and Yoda had totally given up on him) that ultimately made all of the difference. Let’s be honest, there’s no way any Jedi could have beaten Vader and the Emperor together… the only way to win was to bring Vader back, and Luke was the only one who still believed that was possible.
It’s this idealism and total commitment to risking everything for the people he cared about which made Luke my favourite character.

    • @MovieJoob

never thought of it that way. well said.
you're right: Vader and the Emperor and their resources are near unbeatable. they have to be taken apart from within.
"You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me." still gives me chills.
It's the hero's journey. temptation overcome. a willing to die for the cause.
I do love how Luke has shown a willingness to die SEVERAL times:
-trying to save Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru (for all he knows the stormtroopers are still there)
-over the first Death Star (30 fighters against THAT!)
-suicide at the gantry on Bespin (he'd rather fall to this death than join the Dark Side)
-over Endor ("soon I'll be dead. and you with me."

    • @lovesandservesjesuschrist6752
      @lovesandservesjesuschrist6752 2 роки тому +3

That's why Luke has sometimes been called Space Jesus, sacrificing himself to the end, for everyone else's benefit. It's true and completely pure goodness that wins in the end. Anything less (more selfish) would not have worked.

    • @lovesandservesjesuschrist6752
      @lovesandservesjesuschrist6752 2 роки тому

@@slchance8839 Yes! :) That is a perfect list of his willingness to go all the way. Thanks for putting that together. As I just wrote above, only pure goodness is able to do that. I.e. a love that exceeds the love of self. Which is a potent lesson for our real world in this day and age, when everyone is being taught to put themselves before others, and the love of self has become superbia (hubristic pride) - which is of course invisible to the one who holds it.

I believe I remember reading somewhere that at some point, Vader had distanced himself so far from who he had been before he became evil that he didn’t even think of himself and Anakin Skywalker as being the same person anymore. And then eventually it got to the point where he didn’t even want to think of his former self by name, instead simply calling the man he’d once been, “The Jedi.”
With that in mind, think of the title of this movie, and what Vader ultimately does. I feel like it gives the title a brand new meaning.

Really enjoyed watching all 3 of your reactions to the greatest triology in the history of movies. I was 15 when the first one came out back in 77. Funny thing is I didn't even want to go see it. The trailors didn't look that good. My brother came home from school and dragged me to see it. I was complaining the whole 2 hours waiting in line. He kept saying I was going to love it. Well still mad at being there, as soon as that star destroyer came from on top the screen and filled up the whole screen. The sound shook the theater, I was hooked. My eyes where really big and my mouth was open. My brother looked over at me and said, "I told ya." Think of this for a moment. You know how excited you were after each movie. Couldn't wait to see the next one. Not sure how long you waited between them but we had to wait 3 long years to see the next one. I will let you in on something that very few know about this movie. The part where Luke use the force to get his lightsaber and swung it at the Emperor. Dark Vadar blocked him and everybody was thinking he was saving the Emperor. Well he was actually saving Luke. The Emperor had this dark side power called essence transfer which is the ability to transfer his conscienceness into another living person. He was very old and his body wasn't going to last much longer. When the time came and he found the right body, he could transfer himself into the new body and live on. One big catch. If the body he was transfering into wasn't strong in the force, he wouldn't have been able to keep his powers. The dark side is very hard on the human body. That is why he looked so bad. Anyway Luke was the perfect body for him. YOung and strong in the force. That is why he kept telling Luke to strike him down. If he did, he would be able to transfer into Luke and continue living on but in a young body. Vadar knew of this and that is why he blocked Luke's lightsaber. If Luke would have struck him down at that moment, in anger, he would have been lost in the dark side and the Emperor could have made the transfer. When the Emperor died, Luke was still in the light side and his death wasn't at his hands so he couldn't make the transfer. Anyway thought I would give you something about this movie that not many know about. You just began your journey here in the Star Wars universe. There are tons of novels and comicbook stories that can keep you busy for a couple of years. All of that is called the EU or expanded universe aka legends. Disney says they are not Star Wars canon but I say what is Star Wars canon is up to the individual fan. There are story after story that take place after episode 6 about Luke becoming insanely powerful, Han and Leia and their children. There are also stories of other time periods, thousands of years before what happens in these movies. New heros and villians. Just all kinds of stuff. Much of it is on audiobooks which is a great way to listen to them. Wow this went on kind of long. I just get excited to help new people in our universe learn more and more about it. Well take care and if you have any questions about anything Star Wars, please feel free to ask. I would love to tell you anything you wish to know. Keep on enjoying.

Yeah I can tell the dark side clearly destroys the human's life force/body/purity based on how decrepit they look! That's so creepy as to why he wanted Luke though, it makes so much sense!
I'm so happy to be in this awesome community finally and learn more about the EU!

I like many others watched Star Wars on opening night in 1977. Like a lot of other people, I came out changed forever. I could show you all of my lightsabers and voice changing Vader helmet plus 100 other things, but the best part for me is watching my granddaughters become monster fans with me. Recording them doing lightsaber duels in the yard is very special especially when they choreograph. Second to that is coming on YT to see people react that have never seen them before.
When episodes 1, 2 and 3 came out I always checked my daughters out of school for appointments at noon and we could go see them opening day at the theater. Later I was able to take my oldest granddaughter to the theaters to see 7, 8 and 9.
Not much in entertainment links a family like that. Sports maybe but most don't rewatch the games over and over. The versions you watched were remastered. They had a few things that were modified or added to 'modernize' them. I love them just as I love the originals.
The people celebrating in the streets of the city at the end would have been slaughtered because the empire just didn't give up. It made a nice scene though.
Anyways, long winded way of saying great reactions so far and I look forward to seeing the rest.

Speaking of Wedge Antilles, there were a lot of Star Wars novels through the 80's, 90's, etc. General Wedge Antilles was leading the New Republic's X-wing fighter group to mop up the rest of the Imperial navy after Return of the Jedi.
It's a fighter pilot tradition even going back in our 20th century to put a row of little ship symbols on your plane for how many enemy ships you've shot down. Wedge got to have TWO Death Stars on his row of kills shown on his X-wing.

Hey, Jade! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience discovering this trilogy. The Skywalker Saga constitutes a modern mythology for four generations of viewers.
I love Jabba! I get a kick out of how he's called Pizza the Hutt in "Spaceballs"! Lol. He is the pure embodiment of the id. The Hutts are the most powerful criminal cartel in the Star Wars galaxy controlling a vast portion of space outside the jurisdiction of the Core government be it Republic or Empire. They always represent a third power in the galaxy. Jabba's palace and lifestyle is modeled after Western concepts of the decadence and opulence of the cultures of the Orient during medieval and early modern history: Arab Caliphs, Persian Satraps, Ottoman Sultans, Tatar Emirs, Mongol Khans, Russian Czars and Indian Rajas. The Sail Barge is, of course, modeled after piratical swashbucklers; Jabba even has Luke walk the plank!
The large mechanical arachnids with liquid-filled glass bulbs seen stalking through Jabba's palace are actually monks of the B'omarr Order who transplant their brains into those glass bulbs filled with a nutrient solution that keeps the brain alive. The purpose of the bodily separation is so that the monks can exist free of bodily sensation in order to achieve enlightenment. It's an ascetic philosophy taken to the utter extreme!
Leia's barely-there slave outfit is one of her signature looks and is a very popular cosplay that was famously made light of on the TV show "Friends". Many impressionable pre-pubescent boys sprouted hair on their chest at the sight of her and carried a torch for the Princess well into adulthood! Lol.
Boba Fett, the dreaded bounty hunter who delivered Han to Jabba, was long rumored to have survived falling into the gullet of the Sarlacc in the non-canonical Expanded Universe. The second season of "The Mandalorian" provides a definite answer on the subject!
Femi Taylor, who played the Twi'lek dancer Jabba feeds to his pet Rancor, returned for dancing reshoots inserted into that horrific CGI musical number performed by Jabba's house band. Despite it being some 15 years later, her physique was unchanged and matched the old footage seamlessly!
The two pale elderly gents in purple robes and headgear in the Emperor's entourage are part of the Imperial Ruling Council who handle daily administrative tasks. Believe it or not, action figures were made of them and they were officially named in a canon novel called "Tarkin" by James Luceno. Their names are Janus Greejatus and Kren Blista-Vanee. They're just pasty old bureaucrats but highly sought figures for Star Wars collectors!
The Leia twist was hinted at in "Empire" when she sensed Luke from afar while he was dangling from the bottom of Bespin! Subtle sensations like that indicate that she has latent Force-sensitivity and has a connection to Luke. However, she never consciously manipulated the Force, never underwent training and never thought of herself as anything other than an Alderaanian princess which is why Vader never perceived anything amiss about her.
Warwick Davis, who played the Ewok named Wicket who first comes upon Leia, has shown up in every Star Wars movie since in a cameo! He is the franchise's lucky penny! You may know him as the star of "Willow".
Primitive guerilla fighters defending their native territory like the Ewoks have often had an advantage over a more technologically advanced, disciplined foe like the Empire. The Celts defeated the Romans, the Mongols defeated the Chinese, the Americans defeated the British, the Vietnamese defeated the Americans and the Afghans defeated the Russians.
The fish-headed Mon Calamari Rebel Admiral Ackbar is a fan favorite and his delivery of the line, "It's a trap!", became a popular meme to this day!
The Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles, played by Denis Lawson, survived two Death Star assaults and the battle on the ice world of Hoth! In the Expanded Universe that is no longer canonical, he became a legendary flight instructor for the New Republic's Flight Academy.
The CGI tweaks to the remastered "Return of the Jedi" are the most egregious in the series including that dreadful CGI musical number in Jabba's palace, a beaked Sarlacc and a young Anakin Force-ghost that replaced middle-aged Sebastian Shaw with young Hayden Christensen. However, you do get a glimpse of the city-planet Coruscant during the galaxy-wide celebration. Coruscant, the Galactic Capital, is completely industrialized from surface to core! Appearing prominently throughout the Prequel trilogy, Coruscant was most definitely inspired by Isaac Asimov's capital world of Trantor from the "Foundation" series.

If you want to know Darth Vader's story, then the Prequel Trilogy is next!

Hey Jade. Another great one. 😀Not only did you find a way to make a great reaction video despite UA-cam's restrictions but you really pay proper attention to the movies. Not much (if anything) gets past you. Other UA-camrs ask some stupid questions that prove they weren't watching properly. This is why you got so emotional. You are meant to. George Lucas made these movies for kids to enjoy (despite the violence). I love how much you loved the Ewoks. Funny how you initially said they looked like your cat. I have a kitten that looks like the baby Ewok. All the Ewoks were played by "little people" (dwarfs) and so was R2D2. The actor Kenny Baker was inside R2D2 and he animated the character by rocking or stomping. He couldn't do much in there, but what he did made the droid more human and likeable. The young Ewok (who met Leia and brought her back to the tribe) was named Wicket. [Wicket Wystri Warrick was a male Ewok scout and warrior on the forest moon of Endor.] The actor who played him (Warrick Davis) was about 12 or 13 when Jedi was made. He has a cameo in Episode I - The Phantom Menace. He is one of the human spectators of the Pod Race. He's the guy that points and laughs when the race starts and two racers are stuck at the start. 😀
Another of the Ewoks (actually three Ewoks) were played by Felix Silla. He was the actor who played "Cousin Itt" in the original Addams Family TV series, he also was on Star Trek.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it in Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light sabre is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
    7. Obvious CGI/start/stop with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the picture.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode.
    11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney and
    everything changed. Sadly

I loved how you immediately thought "that's how his dad looked before..." obviously meaning before he got all deformed. There's some people that disagree with the change, but it makes perfect sense in canon actually. Yes, Anakin technically came back just before he died, but that doesn't mean his normal self did. The last time he looked normal was when he was good before he turned evil. This reaction was one of my favorites.
The whole celebration scene was different too. The music was completely different in the original release, and the scenes shifting between planets never were there, since those places, at least a couple of them excluding Cloud City, were from the prequels, like Naboo and Coruscant.

Caravan of Courage (1984) & The Battle for Endor (1985). Made for TV movies that got a UK theatrical release. Lucas had a very young daughter who thought Dad's job was boring, but she was a Shirley Temple fan. So he tried to make a movie she'd like. The first one did good enough to make a second one. (Made for TV movies was a low bar, and Lucasfilms already had the costumes, might as well use them.) 8 year old girl demographic was the target. Of course most fans will hate that.

The first lesson jedi are taught is how to interpret what they "feel" from the force. Vader and Luke could tell by the "feel" kind of like animals being able to identify by smell.

I totally felt that! They just sense it in ways animals can sense smell or echo location and such. It is just one of their senses at this point! So cool

I think what fooled you regarding Wedge was that in Episode IV he had the call sign of 'Red Two' but that was assigned to another pilot on Hoth in Episode V.
As you now know, Wedge survives through the entire original trilogy.
