My palette collection was taking up too much room in my study, and unless they were going to start paying rent, they had to go! Edit: I will spray and disinfect the lightly used and not too old palettes and give them to my friend who will take them to her dance class. They won’t go to waste ❤
Agreed. I made my own palette from Inglot Eyeshadows, contours, blush, bronzer and highlighter. This and my Glaminatrix Romantic palette are the only two I travel with.
I decluttered all of my eyeshadow palettes as they were too old. Now I have two or three single eyeshadows. It was hard decluttering them but I don’t want to risk an eye infection. Moving forward, I will keep my make up collection to one or two items in each category so I don’t have to throw away so much.
I am excited to see what you end up with in your final drawer. I did a few declutters & eliminated redundant color stories. I found that I was buying the same color stories on repeat from various brands.
Go Kat!! Awesome ruthless declutter. This video really made me remember to pay attention to packaging and pan size when purchasing eyeshadow and not just color/formula. Things that are easier to use up mostly/entirely, don't waste packaging and are easier to store should be such a bigger priority to companies and consumers!
Same!! My "everyday" situation far outnumbers the amount of special occasions in my life, I was holding on to so/much/stuff for the odd 2-3 times per year I might need them. Now I have 4 one-n-done shadows (2 matte, 2 shimmer) and three toppers. If I add some bronzer or blush into the mix I have even more options. I was able to finish one of my main shadow sticks and replace it with a shiny new-release-single-shadow, I don't feel like I'm missing out because I'm actually finishing stuff pretty quickly.
It’s so refreshing to see someone else who only reaches for a handful of singles. So many creators I watch are heavily eyeshadow based, the latest palettes ect. It’s no longer my thing. But of course I still have about 7 palettes I can’t let go of just yet!
Good and ruthless! A deeply satisfying watch. The biggest palette I have is the ND Glam Palette - everything else is Lisa Eldridge, a small Nars one, Victoria Beckham eyebrick, & Viseart Petite. Small pans, small palettes & single cream pots is all I need, particularly as I'm getting older and fewer formulas are flattering to work with.
I tossed almost all of my makeup this month because they were just too old. I have the least amount of makeup I have had since high school and first really getting into makeup and I’m loving it.
Wow Kat you make me want to clean out my own ones~! 47 (possibly 77) is a lot! I got rid of some 'old' ones a few months ago but I think I need to be harsher too!!! Love those glitters too, those look gorgeous~! And those collectors Disney palettes look gorgeous! So jelly 🥰
Good for you. I’ve been going through the same process. I’ve gotten rid of probably half of my palettes so far. It’s crazy to own so many and never use them. I, too, have pared down my makeup routine and my eyeshadow most of all. Sometimes it’s bronzer in the crease and highlighter on the lid. It cut my makeup routine time in half. Sometimes life has to take precedence over makeup! Imagine that!
I'm lucky in a way that I'm allergic to almost all eyeshadows so that keeps the palettes down. I only don't get a reaction from Lois Cosmetics and some Natasha Denona shades (from the old formula, like Gold, and glam face palette I still get reactions)
If you do end up depotting your Kaleidos quads, could you make a video about it. I've been wanting to depot mine as well but feel intimidated by the packaging.
Yeah I will definitely consider doing that. I think they will probably sit in a box for a month before I muster up the courage to do it though haha. I might also need to buy some magnet stickers etc in preparation
I tried depotting my kaleidos eyeshadow quads and ended up cracking nearly all of them 😢 the plastic packing is super thick and doesn’t bend easily when heated and there is almost no room to get a pin down the side to try and wedge it out. Would love to see if someone manages to depot them successfully!
I'm the same way... I have close to 60 palettes but I tend to reach for my UD moondust single in shade Solstice all the time. I want to try and pop the pans out from the palettes that I actually use and put them all together cause I use only a few out of each of them 😭 I'm just so scared to break them or ruin them while popping them out
I'm always excited to see what you keep and what you create when you depot. I've learned a lot about my own preferences just watching your procress. Sometimes I agree with you, and sometimes I think Ida gone in a different direction, regardless, it is always a good time. ❤
I am right with you - I went from full on glam eyeshadow and eyeliner looks every day, to barely more than a bit of shimmer in the corner of my eyes. I used to have drawers and drawers of palettes, like it was excessive...I now have 4 palettes. And even those I rarely use. I really only wear heavier makeup on special occasions or for performances.
Big fan of those Kaleidos quads feat. @ 5:20. Bit of a goff here and I chuck one of these in my bag along with a black creme shadow and I'm good for night or day. If they did a quad with just four of those sparkly shades, I'd absolutely throw money at it, haha! Also, if you do a video where you de-pot/de-pan any shadows, you'll definitely have a view from me. I bought one of those big old magnetic palettes, went through my entire palette collection, dug out all my favourite shadows and popped them in the big "master" palette- I've now got four larger palettes (read 12/16 pan) and several small palettes (read 4-6 pan) and I suspect that I'll be doing another declutter this summer as I've now got an addiction to Lethal Cosmetics single shadows. Speaking of which, do you know if the Clionadh pans are roughly the same size? I'd like to buy a few as a treat and it'd be nice to add them to my Lethal palettes.
Omg I so should do the same! I’m hardly wearing eyeshadows now and I have 3 drawers of it. Also powder highlights…..it’s just hard to throw things away. I should perhaps try to find someone who is wearing these and give them away.
I did the same thing a few weeks ago! Went down from 2 drawers and a box in my wardrobe to one drawer. Felt so cathartic going through and getting rid of all the products I don't use cluttering my house. I really don't want to think about how much money I threw away 😭🤣
Amazingly done! Im also just using singles and small palettes now these days (if I even wear eyeshadow) so I think a big declutter is in order for me too!
Have you considered multitasking that makeup forever palette as face products? I reckon you could probably use the beige as a face powder and a few as bronzer/contour? That way you’d get some use out of it and then maybe declutter the rest
That was pretty amazing!💛 I have a ridiculous number of eyeshadow palettes for a mere mortal!😁 And no one to give them to! Selling them is too much of a chore! I asked if I could sanitize some of them and put them in the break room for my coworkers. Walmart said no……..😢
I can remember all the hype w these pallets -special pat m-I use none of them -so glad I never jumped on the foundation, lipstick, concealer trains as well -what a waste
I was paying attention, but did you declutter the What's Up Beauty Dragon Eye palette? Also, kudos to you! I've been whittling my palette collection down. Can't wear ABH at all anymore. My eyesight goes blurry! Figured out was an allergy since it's been doing that with different mascaras, too. Currently using Maybelline Sky High and discovered that the Huda formulas work for me :)
Isn't it mad how the pandemic ruined makeup for us. Haven't bought eyeshadow since the Nars Climax palette, I think that was autumn '21. And to think of all the palettes I bought and decluttered. All I have left now is 2 palettes of depotted faves that I reach for occasionally 🙈
I have eyeshadow palettes that have got some mould on the pans. They are only a few years old, but we've had an extremely hot and sticky summer with high humidity. Did you find that with any of yours Kat? I would have thought being powder palettes that they would be good for 4 - 5 years.
Oh that's unfortunate! I have only had that with Melt palettes in the past and that was after only about a year of having it and keeping it in a cool dry and dark room, so I think it was a formulation issue. Are the palettes that got mould from "natural" or "clean" beauty brands? They tend to skip preservatives and leads to makeup going off faster and I have heard of powders and creams growing mould after a short time. I actively avoid clean beauty brands for that very reason. So far I haven't had any issues with mould, even now that I now have moved house and keep my makeup upstairs which can get quite hot in summer, but I am trying to closely monitor the older beauty products (including skincare and fragrances) and store my "good" products away from direct light and too much heat. All being said, heat and moisture will lead to an increase chance of mould in any product, so if your makeup has preservatives in it and are still going bad, you might want to consider changing where you store them or getting a dehumidifier
@@KitschSnitch thanks, not clean brands so I'll have to try storing them in a different spot. One was a Viseart palette and another was my Sydney Grace Tiny Marvels palette and there are also some of my Cleonadh round pan singles.
I'm just curious, but does panning eye shadows works for you when you have this many unused palettes? I tried it twice and found out that focusing on palette I wanted to pan I wasn't wearing my favorite sparkly and special shades in other palettes. Since then I depoted all my palettes, kept only shadows I liked and no color duplicates and put them into few magnetic palettes. :)
I just use what I can and cycle in other palettes/shadows when I want a change. That being said, I’ve never been great at panning eyeshadows, but I like trying ☺️
I had to get over that feeling a while ago haha, and honestly I’ve never regretted decluttering anything. I do however regret holding onto things for too long, to a point that I’m feeling frustrated and overwhelmed with the clutter 😆
I might keep a few for them to destroy in the back yard but they usually only raided the storage drawers in the back of the room when I've been busy in meetings.. the drawers that I use are tucked under my desk, so they can't get there without me knowing haha
Stopped watching in the first 3 minutes since you didn't clearly state which ones, except for the natasha denona one, that you were keeping and decluttering.
This is so painful to watch. To see someone just not want these beautiful things anymore, to not value them. It’s such a positive thing for you. I totally get it. Your life is so full with family, etc., but still it’s hard to see someone discard things that are important to me. Still, I’m happy for you that you’re freeing yourself from unwanted weight. I, however, am in a different place, and hope to always build my collection.
My palette collection was taking up too much room in my study, and unless they were going to start paying rent, they had to go!

Kat, would you consider selling them on facebook marketplace?
@@aimeezhong2880 nah, I don’t feel comfortable selling old and used makeup. I’d prefer to just give it to friends 😊

Agreed!
Agreed. I made my own palette from Inglot Eyeshadows, contours, blush, bronzer and highlighter. This and my Glaminatrix Romantic palette are the only two I travel with.
I laugh to myself when some people poo poo mini versions because they aren’t cost effective. I love what viseart does.
@@TracyD2 I love the Viseart ones too. It's a pity Sephora don't stock much of it in Australia.
