squeezing the plant material can lead to moisture in the oil and cause it to go rancid. what I do is letting it leak out and then squeeze the last drops into a different jar that I use first and keep in the fridge
I have been buying Arnica lotion for many many years and pay $35 for a tube of it! 😳🙄 I had no clue that I could make it at home!!!!! Thanks you, Carolyn!!!!
Thank you so much. I am getting ready to make a salve and Arnica is one of my ingredients. This was a great refresher. Thank you so much. I just Love listening to the softness Of your voice
Thank you so much! Me and my husband were floored at how well some Arnica gel we bought worked for both of us. Bruises to back pain, Arnica relieves like nothing else! I've just recently begun to seriously work on my "garden", inside and out. I'm stocked up on all kinds of seeds for medicines and food and can't wait till Spring! One plant we couldn't wait for and I started inside was Arnica. It seems very happy in a fabric pot, under a grow lamp and is blooming beautifully, as well as sending up new shoots everywhere! This will be my first time making our own medicine from Arnica, so thanks again for sharing! Blessings to you and yours!
I keep an eye on my oil daily to check for fogginess. I had one jar that got foggy so I unlidded it and covered the opening with cheese cloth so the moisture could evaporate. The oil cleared within a couple days.
Wow love this channel. I’m an aromatherapist and love the smell of the natural oils and am researching natural remedies so I can make my own at home. I already have a recipe for a yummy tonic that we all drink, even the toddler likes it and (touch wood) no one has been ill since I started making it. So gonna try my hand at making some first aid balms and ointments. My husband already swears by comfrey for his aching shoulders so I might have to mix it up a bit with some arnica too. He’s a gardener/landscaper so will have to pester him for some in the garden as well as calendula. Ooh getting excited about making my own oils!!
Hello from Australia! I just found this channel and I adore it! I refuse to have anything to do with FB so I am very glad you post videos here on YT. Keep up the excellent work. Blessings from my household to yours. ~D.
thank you for mentioning the moon cycle, I make St. Johns wort oil and sell little bottles and it is amazing. This year I will incorporate Arnica Oil! thank you!
Thanks I have 5 1/2 gallon jars of different types or arnica going now that will be ready mid September. I thought I would try rose oil too. Let the flowers sit a bit like you said, then put them in a jar started adding the oil and when it was close to the top saw a big spider moving around in there 😳 after calming down a second later rescued her and returned her to the rose bush. Thanks for all your amazing videos we have tried so many news things we’re big fans!
Awesome! We use arnica nearly daily with 4 kids😉 I wonder if they are in east Idaho where I am. I am a new wanna-be homesteader, we bought a little under 5 acres last June. I also homeschool our 4 kids. New subscriber😊
I wish you much fun and creativeness with your Homesteading Mandy.. I live in the mountains of BC.. 11 acres.. so many medicinal flowers, wild berries etc.. Enjoy! Xo
If you have heard of icy hot or similar product then Arnica may be for you. Those formally mentioned products have never helped me and I have tried them all for my fibromyalgia (sp?) Pain. Then someone mentioned Arnica gel. I ordered it on Amazon and it was AMAZING! Of course it did not completely remove my pain but it has been the only over the counter product to help in any way. Until this video I had no idea it could be made at home. Thank you SO much for sharing! FYI: I forgot one of the best parts. No strong smell like those other over the counter products available.
I have been researching Comfrey Salves and am wondering if you can add Arnica as a " Double Whammy " for sore joints and muscles ?? Love your channel . Ontario Canada .
I find if I fill my jar completely to the top w/oil, there’s no headspace for oxidization to occur. Great video tho I would have loved to view more of the actual foraging. 👍👍👍
Excellent information...though I want to stress that this herb has anticoagulant properties. If you're already on blood thinners, this can drastically exaggerate the effects of those drugs. Also, check with your OB before using during pregnancy.
Oh that’s no good. I was going to use it on my father in laws broken arm. However he is on blood thinners - hence the extensive bruising that has moved down his arm over a few days. How does that work? It is supposed to help bruising so I thought it would have a coagulant to stop the bleeding.
Hi Ms Thomas, good video. Thx for sharing, and I have subscibed. FYI -- in the Chinese 5 Elements, the arnica plant carries a Fire vibration, and is best suited to overpowering, or weakening Metal vibration ailments and pests. Mnemonic: Fire melts Metal. Arnica tincture is great for killing athlete's foot, a Metal pest. Arnica oil is great for applying topically for people who have a low % of Fire vibration in their natural body chemistry. For people who have a high % of Fire in their natural body chemistry, birch essential oil (Water vibration; Water extinguishes Fire) is much better to use, esp for sore muscles in the back or neck. Try it out and you will be amazed!! ❤
Question, I live near Post Falls and also have property at Priest Lake. Approximately when would the arnica be ready? I will be heading on an Missions trip to Zambia at the end of May and I’m hoping to be able to collect it before then.
I buy a lot of herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs, but their arnica is prohibitively expensive for me. I buy at Herbco. www.herbco.com/p-1282-arnica-flower-whole.aspx Not sure if it'll work out for you depending on shipping to your location, but worth checking. Big price difference.
Carolyn, I live in southern Idaho in the treasure valley area and have probably missed the harvesting of the arnica flowers. If I were to order on line which brand and how many to make a quart jar of arnica oil would I need to buy? TIA BTW, I am learning bunches of great information about processing my garden and herbs from your channel. I'm a little late to the drying and canning process as I just turned 69, but you're never to late to change and learn new skills to help your family. Thanks again.
You have used olive oil in the preparation of this arnica recipe. It is a bit expensive here in Pakistan. We mostly use mustard oil both in food and in massage. Can we use mustard oil instead of olive oil for preparation of this recipe? Will this affect the efficacy of the prescription?
hello, do you think its ok to still use the arnica flowers if they started going to seed while drying? i maybe waited too long and now they fluffing up. can i still use them for an infused oil?
I have tried to research online to find out what the arnica flower looks like here in Coeur d' Alene Idaho and can't seem to find any information. Do you know of any websites I can go to and when will they be ready to harvest here? Thank you, Star
Hi there - thank you so much for this tutorial! I wanted to ask- how do you store your arnica oil afterwards? I was considering freezing it...but not sure if that will affect the potency? And otherwise just in the fridge? Thank you! ^_^
Sherise, I would say you could store it like any other oil you have. If you keep it in a cool, dark place it should be fine. I've never tried freezing an oil, so not sure how that would work.
Yes but leave in the sun for 3 weeks. The THC needs to cook out. Use the leaves. You can use the hemp seed oil as the carrier oil, in place of olive oil. That will give you GLA and more Endo cannabinoid.
+thedogs maid You certainly could do that - it wont hurt - but flowers are very delicate (unlike roots) and the oil will penetrate just fine without it!
I grow it here in Australia. You can pull them up and plant the root like comfrey, yarrow, herbs like that. Keep the root moist in transfer. It needs water but will come back each spring just fine. It can also be grown from seed. Will pretty much grow in any soil that drains well and doesn’t require any fertility treatment just water.
greath info,,,i live in eastern oregon,, baker city .or,, i whould love if you can tell me where i can found this georges plant,,orif you can get hold me,, i work @ this mexican restaurant in town " el erradero" my name is hector,,, thanks hope ear from you soon

Thank you! I just harvested my flowers in Yecora, Sonora, Mexico. A different variety of Arnica, but looking forward to making it!
My Granddaughter and I did this with lavender. It's great.....

Thank-you for an instructive and relevant presentation.

Great information.

Can you do a video like this for calendula and bee balm? :)
I have been researching Comfrey Salves and am wondering if you can add Arnica as a " Double Whammy " for sore joints and muscles ?? Love your channel . Ontario Canada .
Hello I was wondering if you could use the ornica oil/ salve if you're taking blood thinners for clots? Thank you.
Can you make this with the dried flower?
i wish arnica grew around here but i don't think it's native in my country. such a great herb!
I came across this herb last night while looking for antiinflammatory oils to massage my mom's arthritic knees. Looking forward to adding this.
I find if I fill my jar completely to the top w/oil, there’s no headspace for oxidization to occur. Great video tho I would have loved to view more of the actual foraging. 👍👍👍

Hello freind can the arnica grow in Florida

Can i use dried arnica for this? I don’t have access to fresh where I live.
Yes you can! It will work exactly the same.
Thank goodness! Because I was wondering the same since I don't think it grows in my area, or if it does, I never see it before it gets cut.
@@plante_n_seeds4505 Thanks.
I made a simple arnica salve but I have a lot more to learn about this magnificent herb. I wish my channel was as good as yours 😝❤️👍
By the way thank you for sharing your knowledge
Does Arnica grow in the southeast? I always see it shown in the mountains of the northwest.
Question, I live near Post Falls and also have property at Priest Lake. Approximately when would the arnica be ready? I will be heading on an Missions trip to Zambia at the end of May and I’m hoping to be able to collect it before then.
hello! do you leave the jar in the sun for those first 4 weeks covered with a cloth?
Can you make this out of dried flowers that are purchased from MRH?
You definitely can!

Mountain Rose Herbs online is very good quality and price. I am in Idaho too!
We do not have arnica growing in Nebraska. I am going to order some, what variety do I want? Thank you.

Does this work for Osteoarthritis and joint pain?
I've just found your channel and love it, so have subscribed! Looks like I've got a lot of watching to do to catch up.
+Liz Zorab Hi Liz! Thanks!
Nice job, thank you.

If I put in dehydrate...should I put it on a high heat for a short period?
No. Always dry your herbs at a very low temperature.
Is there a way to locate native herbs
That is awesome! Would like to try making some. Do you sell seeds, can’t seem to find some.
Have you ever thought about investing in a oil infuser?
Hello, if I were to use dried arnica flowers (was gifted some recently), could I cut down the wait time? Thank you!
I have never heard of it I wonder if Mississippi has it
Awesome! I will have to see if arnica grows in our area! 😁
Where is a good place to buy arnica seeds?
We like Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds www.rareseeds.com
Do you use virgin or pumice olive oil?
Thanks
Does it have a smell?
Has anyone bought dried arnica flowers to make this? Is there one type I should pick over the others? Any help is appreciated!! 😊
Hi there - thank you so much for this tutorial! I wanted to ask- how do you store your arnica oil afterwards? I was considering freezing it...but not sure if that will affect the potency? And otherwise just in the fridge?

What part of Idaho. I live in Horseshoe bend.
We are in Bonners Ferry.
Do you use extra virgin olive oil or just regular olive oil?
Either works great.
Could we make CBD OIL LIKE the Arnica oil? Like with the leaves? Roots? Stalks? Hemp?
Yes but leave in the sun for 3 weeks. The THC needs to cook out. Use the leaves. You can use the hemp seed oil as the carrier oil, in place of olive oil. That will give you GLA and more Endo cannabinoid.
Thank you !!!
I thought I was supposed to always chop up the flowers to make sure to expose as much to the oil as possible? Does it matter?
+thedogs maid You certainly could do that - it wont hurt - but flowers are very delicate (unlike roots) and the oil will penetrate just fine without it!
I have some apricot oil I'd like to get used up. Is it a big deal to infuse apricot or jojoba oils rather than olive oil?
+thedogs maid Not at all... go for it!
Great video!!
Could we raise our own Arnica flowers if we don't have a woods to get them from?
I grow it here in Australia. You can pull them up and plant the root like comfrey, yarrow, herbs like that. Keep the root moist in transfer. It needs water but will come back each spring just fine. It can also be grown from seed. Will pretty much grow in any soil that drains well and doesn’t require any fertility treatment just water.
Where do you recommend I purchase the dried arnica flowers for infusing into our oil? Thank you TKA
You could buy it in almost any Hispanic stores, I used to get it at Whole Food. You could also buy it at Amazon.
this might sound stupid but where do you buy the olive oil because I notice you use allot, for me, I pay 20 dollars for a quart.
I get my at Costco

Can you use coconut oil?
Use any oil you like. I prefer coconut or grapeseed or safflower because they all sink into the skin better than olive oil.
Illegal to pick here in the Netherlands 😞

What happens when you forget a goldenrod tincture that you've made with 100 proof vodka, for over 7 months & it's just ben siting in the dark? Oops!!!
Tinctures can't go bad so don't worry! If anything it's probably even more potent.
But my name is Arnica
Pick them all before chemtrails kill them. Also get an up close screenshot.
