Diamond Emerald ur not suppose to slap it, instead ur suppose to use all ur strength from ur arm (obviously) and the ball will gradually go faster. (Do this more until the ball gets over the net)
My middle school volleyball team has six players on it, and we have one girl who is just a sub. We have our first play off game tomorrow. Our record is ten three. Every coach for the other team never thinks we can do it. They always think it will be an easy game, but we put up a fight. The school volleyball team hasn't done this good in a really long time. We are in Division one of two, but some teams are really hard to play, especially because we don't get subbed in and out. Volleyball is my favorite sport. To win the game we are playing tomorrow I need to learn to overhand serve, I don't have to, but it would be helpful. This video helped me most. THANK YOU
Thank You solo much! I had Field Day in 2 days and I had to fill in for volleyball. I know how to play its just that I can't serve very well. With this, and practicing, my serve got very far!
The end gets a bit complicated but I think you really hit some important points about footing and posture 💁♂️ Also the "routine" of preparing yourself.. not many tutorials mention this and it's actually something worth considering. thanks for this
Starting to get the hang of this technique much better. I lack badly on serving and I have a game tomorrow so hopefully I get the hang of serving using this technique.
Hi I'm practicing my overhand serve right now. I've discovered I have proper technique and when I toss correctly I can make it over the net fine. However my tosses aren't always consistent. Can someone help by giving me drill suggestions or tips to have a more consistent toss? It would help immensely! Thank you.
try JUST tossing to the height you need/want and just keep tossing and tossing and tossing until it just comes naturally.. hope this helps and good luck 😊👍
For anyone that doesn’t have a net or court you can start at a tree in ur yard and try to serve over a power line it gets ur serve very high and every time u make it take a step back that’s what I do at least 🤓😎🤗
I've learned it the wrong way, since my coach never really bothered with teaching us how to do it. The only thing he cared was that I had enough force to get it to the other side. So, thank you! :D
I can do everything well but overhand serving was hard for me because every coach would tell me I wasn't hitting hard enough but really I was step and then lifting so it was going behind me and I was loosing all my power. This helped a lot I was taught to bend your elbow and have your palm facing the right at your ear. Thank you xx
Can you clarify what you mean by, 'Don't let your toss drop.' I see the difference between the serves but I don't see much difference in the contact from the toss. Thanks!
I'm going into 8th grade and my coach siad it's fine to under hand so I perfected that but now for eight grade tryouts the coach expects over hand. And I'm good at everything else but like I've been watching these videos but nothing has changed I can't get it over the net but liek other people get better can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong!? I'm desperate 🙏🏻
The power comes from driving the shoulder and elbow forward ahead of the forearm and hand. I've taught a lot of girls how to serve and at first most of them try to smack the ball over the net with their hand and forearm. They get no distance or height. When they try harder in an effort to get power they swing the hand and forearm faster, but still no power or height. Instead, maintain a firm hand and forearm, and drive that hand forward and up into the ball using the shoulder and elbow. As you can clearly see in the video, it's not even necessary to have a long follow-through for this style of serve. The hand can finish straight out level with the floor. In fact, that long follow-through swing gives beginners the (wrong) impression of where the power is coming from. It makes it seems as if the ball is being smacked with the hand and forearm. No, it's a stiff hand and forearm being driven forward and up into the ball by the shoulder and elbow. A strong step forward and hip turn will supply even more power and is often necessary for smaller kids to get enough power to clear the net.
dudueisha _Me too dude! I always thought myself before that it would be impossible for a small guy like me to dunk the rim but wow. It gained me about 10" in my vert in less than 2 months! Believe it or not dude!_ =)
When I used to serve bumping with one arm while holding the other arm, I would always be so uncomfortable because the ball didn't feel right staying on my hand I always pushed it up but then It never worked out. So now I'm trying to see all the kinds of serving types to see if I find the right one.
Do any of u guys have tips for making ur arm swing faster. Because I heard that my form was good but I didn't have the fast enough swing for it to go over.
You can join camps! Just ask your school if you're not on summer break yet or look online for camps near you. You can join camps and play over summer! Hope this helped :)
I really like the entire progression and I coach nearly the exact same progression.. The only thing I don't get is why face your palm outward when your going to strike something in front of you, doesn't it make more sense to have your palm facing forward since you're striking the ball forward it takes out one dynamic in getting the angle of your hand correct.
Im not a professional or anything but I think its so it gives you more power, and to get the angle right you just practice. Because swinging from the palm facing out and the swing towards the net making it face in add extra power.
@@dwijapatel4209 interesting how turning your wrist 90° can generate more power. My point is why practice getting the angle right when you can start with your hand facing the net and you don't have to worry about getting the angle right.
The hand is facing the same direction as the chest/shoulders. When you start, you are standing with your shoulders open (to the right for right handers) and not square to the net. The hand is facing outwards in the same direction. When you rotate and transfer weight forward through the hitting zone the shoulders and hand will now be facing the net. If you are using the serving technique in the video, and find yourself hitting weak serves to the right (for right handers), then you are likely hitting the ball with just the arm and your shoulder turn/weight transfer is either late or not happening at all.
The ball she uses I had to use in a tournament and it hurt me SOOOO BAD! I am one of the best servers I the team, and I could not serve with that ball.
I just started playing volleyball I'm 6th grade (little league team) and I cannot serve I allays take the position on the back center so I don't have to serve by the time I'm front center I get to switch out but I'm gonna try thanks for the video and could you do one for bumping the ball farther and how to hold your hands when bumping
my bicep area (idk if it's my muscle or bone) hurt when my palm is in contact with the ball when serving, which then makes my serve very weak, it rarely gets past the net. anyone have any answer to this problem im facing?
i have to learn this for pe :/ and im hella skinny so i'm barely strong the first time my pe teacher taught me this i was SOOO COFUSED anyways wish me good luck :')
hello from colombia :) I like the explanatio but youmust improve the video with tripod or some support so that the video not remain teetering..... and i am sorry for my English is bad :P
I wouldn't necessarily say right at the palm, but more rather the "heel" of your hand. If the palm works, go ahead, but I find that the heel gives more power to your serve (plus that's how I was taught)
+rinnychan8 Serving at the heel of your hand makes the ball more likely to float. It works, yes, but if you want a powerful, ace-worthy hit, it's on your palm.
You want the heel of your palm, for the solidness. And then maybe hit with the middle of your palm if you want too. But NEVER NEVER hit r volleyball with ur fingers!!
You want to hit the ball like your high-fiving it and you want to maintain a strong hand and wrist and you want to it it with the palm of your hand and make sure you follow through with your arm
well, when you put your feet like that your already going to be off balance and more likely to mess up. so I wouldn't recommend that. But great video! Thumbs up !
Your serve goes so far! I'm so jealous
The Jakresky meee too😣
Same😔
This is very helpful since my volleyball coach doesn't do shit :)
I can relate sadly
Babygal my school volleyball coach was the janitor and we won first place but we didn't do anything
I really felt this comment😭
Babygal fr
yeah we weren’t taught how to serve and spike properly
Waow...she makes it looks like its so easy. While mine is just going like half court. Need to practice more
it seems easy yet I still can’t get it over the net.

You know it's gonna be good if she starts out with "the first thing you need is yourself.."
Why does my hand kinda slap the ball and make it only go halfway.
Diamond Emerald ur not suppose to slap it, instead ur suppose to use all ur strength from ur arm (obviously) and the ball will gradually go faster.
(Do this more until the ball gets over the net)
:)
Diamond Emerald u should tighten ur hand up don’t let it be flimsy
Hit with the heal of your hand
Emmy practice your toss :)

i really liked it... I wish that i could serve like her she is so professional! wish me that i can do that on our try out.. whoooooo😰
Kath Nacario You right !!!😩😩😊
you are a good teacher, are you planning on pursuing a career in professional volleyball?
This is the only video that works for me!!! I've been looking for such a long time omggg THANK YOU
I honestly couldn't serve overhand before watching this video. Thank you so much!

thank you so much for this. i cant wait to use this technique when i try out for Volleyball😊
Arianna Medrano me too!

Youre a beast! you're brilliant at this thank you so much this helped a lot!!
I am trying to get better at overhand serve and this helped
I can do everything except serve. I can hit because I hit it down, but over hand serve? No way. It's so hard.
I can do everything but serve too I always hit the net or the ground it never goes over the net
You are likely tossing it out in front of you, so you are hitting down.
+Eric Ness ok thanks for the tip👍
ikr I always do underhand serve everyone at my school is like "oh its so easy" buy I'm like "heck na" plus I'm here because I can't serve 😣

Fabiola Villanueva serving while the ball is still touching your other hand isn't even a legal serve.
Thank you very much for wonderful tips...especially for beginners like me..👍
for those of you saying your ball only goes halfway, you’re supposed to sorta tense up your arm and hit it instead of slapping it using just your hand
Thnkx for the video cuz i krpt on trying 2 get it over the net and my shoulders r gettin tired and i still cant do it. Now ill try this next time!
this so very helpful, i'll try this tips tomorrow, and i wish i can do it.. thankss
Thank you so much this helped a lot
omg thx for the tips and i was worried i was gonna fail but thx for helping
thanks a lot. it helped me with my volleyball games on my school
TNX............. :)
Do any of u guys have tips for making ur arm swing faster. Because I heard that my form was good but I didn't have the fast enough swing for it to go over.
practice the wrist snap.
in the previous comment i was saying that my serves weren't as good as they are now, sorry for the confusion
Yall! I need a volleyball team to join just for the summer. Where, what, how?
Thanks
You can join camps! Just ask your school if you're not on summer break yet or look online for camps near you. You can join camps and play over summer! Hope this helped :)
Thank youre a great teacher
I don't understand how you get the power when hitting. Is there a quick wrist snap? When I hit the ball, it barely goes over the net.

Please upload more tutorials!!!

Thats really helpful
Is there a difference for sand volleyball?
Thankyouu :) really helpful ! :) and i'm learning to spike.
This helped a lot!! Thank you!
Thanks REALLY HELPS!
when i serve the ball goes high then low making it to the net but on my side and watching this made me see why
The ball she uses I had to use in a tournament and it hurt me SOOOO BAD! I am one of the best servers I the team, and I could not serve with that ball.
Ashleyizlit Thats the ball my club uses.. and that’s kinda sad.. not to be rude
ni ce!! helped me a little!!:D im glad i watched this vid!
Thank you this is really helpful
I live your shirt!! GO TEXAS!!
super helpful!
You're a great teacher. Have your camera person keep the camera on you next time, though! (don't follow the ball)
Very helpful tutorial.thx!
Similar to the mechanics of a tennis serve motion except the noodle arm concept.
Wish me good luck I have try outs April 15
How did it go?
do you follow through?
Is it a foul if you lift one of the legs while you hit/serve the ball?
I just started playing volleyball I'm 6th grade (little league team) and I cannot serve I allays take the position on the back center so I don't have to serve by the time I'm front center I get to switch out but I'm gonna try thanks for the video and could you do one for bumping the ball farther and how to hold your hands when bumping

so if i am left handed, i just flip everything around like, my right foot front and left back and ball is in my right hand?
DudeisAwesome yes
I'm having trouble with serving the ball....any tips???
You want to do everything she said plus follow through, hit the ball with your palm, and maintain a strong wrist and stance
such a big help! thanks! :)
Where on my hand should I hit it?
I was wondering the same thing 😂
Palm of ur hand

Ma'am i want to come there but am so far away
thanks very helpful
Good video
Can u tell me the serve boll if fall on the Cort line then boll is right or wrong I mean in or out
Pradeep Singh on the line is in
I don't serve the way you do but I suppose it's good for beginners until they develop the technique that works for them
lol it hurts but i'll get used to it
Negative teaching points = a BIG TEACHING NO NO!
She didn’t snap back her wrist afterwards
what part of ur hand do u hit the ball with?
Kikers T your palm make sure you don't use your fingers because your serve won't turn out the way you planed
ummm u cant unless its the free version but the full version cant help u there
I have the same ball 😵
Temmie Art haha😂😂
well, when you put your feet like that your already going to be off balance and more likely to mess up. so I wouldn't recommend that. But great video! Thumbs up !
It works for me :)) this was the only technique that allowed me to serve...I literally couldn't serve for my life
Great video but I think you should stress how high to toss the ball. I see the younger girls tossing the ball way too high.
thank you
ok so all i need now is a volleyball
100 Nice
