About the RCA: roadcyclingaca...
Expert Bike Fitter Neill Stanbury recently purchased a new bike. A few considerations were made to ensure the fit was optimal for his setup. Looking deeper into the geometry chart will allow you to further understand how the bike will fit before your next purchase.

I love the way Neil talks. He's got the jokes, comedic timing, and dynamic vocal control to say things quietly that sounds like nobody else. He's so good at explaining things I've watched too many videos!
I sponsor Neill and Cam (lowkey). Nearly anyone who asks for fit related advice, i always try to make a direct reference to these guys and this channel, as they have helped me out a great deal. Happy to see Neill on a new, well-deserved, steed!
I was just about thinking Hambini and the real life emoji popped up!🤣😂
Still the best looking bikes, these classic rim brake (climbing) bikes! 🤘
I completely agree.
Neil needs to do an oval chainring video.
All other bike fitters think oval chainring is BS.
but Neil has it on his own bike
I’ll sum up my own thoughts. My pedaling style with round rings feels “stabby” with micro-accelerations during the peak power phase and then a noticeable deadspot at BDC/TDC. With oval rings my pedaling feels smoother, rounder. Caveat here is I could never get oval rings working quite right with SRAM front shifting so I am back on round rings for 2x drivetrains, but favor oval for 1x.
@@kidsafe how do you size an oval ring? Same as whatever round one you were using, or do you go up/down? If so by how many teeth?
@@thedownunderverse Same size. Oval rings didn't give me a higher max aerobic ceiling. They decreased my fatigue on longer efforts.
@@kidsafe interesting - some others report being able to go up one or two sizes in chainring when moving to oval
I did a few Oval comparison videos you can check out. I ran ovals for 5-6 years because I liked the way they felt and I liked them for traction on the MTB. I have found zero improvement on speed or power. Only area I would say you may like them or they maybe beneficial is traction and maybe for endurance but I found endurance really determined more by how much I would ride. Humans can adapt extremely well so oval or round, your body will adapt to make it work either way.
The increased opening of your hip angle is clear. Looks great!
When I bought my first inline Seatpost most old racers thought I was going mountain bike! Because all they knew was grind and call your knee surgeon! The only solution to a mate who bought the wrong type or size bike! Along with a reduction in stem length works wonders ! Most of them are way lighter as well so yea its a win-win situation!
I there a rule of thumb for how high the seat post or saddle can be in relation to the top tube? If a rider wants to try to get a smaller frame to fit.
I was looking at this one too... Same exact geo as the TCR except with 10mm shorter reach
the speed stops are epic! you leave them alone!
I felt dirty putting on a Bontrager water bottle cage on my Cannondale! It was temporary, since one of my cages had broke.
Great bike! Rim brakes FTW!!!
The 0 offset seatpost surprised me the most.
Still, even with the seatpost the seat looks very much behind the BB.
Neill Stanbury: I'm not a sponsorship kinda guy!
Neill Stanbury, after 15 million subscribers, a plethora of sponsors, AND millions in the bank: "Holy F*k! I love this!"
Neil please do a video on oval chain rings!!! I have a 1987 Ricardo Nuovo with BioPace chain ring. The ovality positioning was never set up correctly from factory. Its now set up as I like it. Id love to fit a oval chain ring on my Giant TCR. Can you please do a segment on the different oval chain rings that are available. Advantages/disadvantages etc.
Good idea I'll pencil that in for the next round of filming! -N
I've got a steel 1987 Trek with OEM ovals. On the flats, I don't notice much, but lugging that +20lbs up hill, you can feel how easy it is, and I'm not a climber.
What's with the 2metres of cable for the rear derailleur?
When you say you moved forward over the BB more, where would you say your patella is in relation to the pedal spindle now?
I don't know and I don't care. -N
Somewhere above it, unless you grab a hand full of front brake…
I have a round seatpost with some offset value. Can I just turn it around 180 degrees, and get more frontal shift?
Theres KCNC brake calipers, very reasonably priced. Makes you feel a little more clean ;)
Neill did I see your right knee diving in a bit?
Nice setup! Similar to my Helium Ridley.
Where did you find that saddle?
Can't go wrong with Chapter 2. I am enjoying my Chap 2 Tere .
I don't find that blacked out Selle SMP on their website, which model is it?
Can you share your gears setup you have on this bike please?
Awesome
When a man loves his bike 👍
This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
So considering the older bike, he could ride the new bike almost as IT IS INTENDED TO BE RIDDEN BY THE MANUFACTURER in its default position itself. I have had two bike and would use them as future reference points for my 3rd bike. Probably a Mason Definition. Would be my first non Rim brake bike. Let's see.
4:01 I had a good laugh 🤣🤣
Where is that saddle from. SMP knock-off?
Looks terrific but if I had a hill climbing bike it would have 44/26 chain rings!
Rear derailleur cable is longer than a day without a Tour de France stage
Top tube slope similar to the odd Felt VR
How tall is he? What is his inseam?
@Neill Stanbury will need to answer that one.
You sound like a seamstress
What's the crank length on this bike?
165s for me mate! -N
Hambini name always come up when mention bottom bracket 🤣
seems to be a lot of knee flex at the bottom of the stroke?
Yeah I probably need a good bike fit - N
@@roadcyclingacademy Who fits the bike fitter?
@@DanTuber we just guess and hope for the best!
@@DanTuber his teacher Steve Hogg would be the best!
I’m curious why you are so obsessed with a zero offset post and moving your position so far forward?
He explains in the video: Opening up hip angle, riding more easily in the drops. And I’d say he is not ‘ obsessed’ .
@@Penalist as a fitter for over 2 decades the last thing i would ever do is put someone in a zero offset post slide their saddle forward so they could ride the drops easier 😂 put the weight on the rider’s ass and no weight on the rider’s hands and they ride the drops better and easier. Also when descending switchback mountains you don’t want excess weight on the hands.
I say obsessed because he mentioned the zero offset several times like he was proud of it and it’s one of the biggest fitting mistakes I fix in my shop - riders coming in having been fit by someone that put a zero post on their bike.
It was just too far back before, and I run a crazy rearward cleat position so my foot is a long way over the pedal, so I need lots of set forward - N
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Ok, ‘shots fired’.. Maybe you’d like to check out some of the bikefitting videos of this Neill Stanburry on this channel and on Cam Nicholl’s channel.
@@Penalist I have watched their videos. I’ve made a few on my channel as well. I will make more.
I’m not only a fitter but an ultra cyclist so my fitting philosophy takes endurance riding (200km - 800km primarily but beyond) into account not crits/road racing. Hence any forward positioning and increased weight borne by the upper is counterproductive for long distance riding.
Additionally, we have a lot of long switchback mountains (20 km-40km) descents here in Southern California You need your front end to be light. A common complaint I get in my shop is the rider’s hands hurt on long descents. Poor fit keeps them from going down fast from improper weight distribution on the bike and lack of confidence, they’re on the brakes too much and too much weight on their hands.
Nice bike!
Only thing I do not like are those brake calipers, hey brake good but I just do not like how they feel. I prefer Ultegra or DA calipers.
Rim brakes forever!!!!
That's what I say 😄
During bike fit sessions we are told that the knee should be right above the pedal when at 3 o'clock position , but i noticed that your knee is quite a way forward. Is there any maximum limit to this without getting in danger zone of picking up injuries over long run ?
Sure, too far forward and you'll get frontal patellar loading problems. The tipping point is highly individual and KOPS is rubbish anyway - N
@@roadcyclingacademy got it , thanks a lot 👍
Old mate didn’t get to comment?
Freakishly long tib/fibs… I find that most fitters who understand the challenges of fitting people at the far ends of the bell curve do so for a reason.
rim brakes forever
Bontrager=dirty lol
