The leaf will eventually dry up and fall off, that is normal. So the first leaf was fine, the rhizome is what grows a new plant from the leave petiole. All you the cuttings were successful.

I found 2 stems that had broken off and fallen on the floor at a local Home Depot. I asked the lady working if I could have them and she agreed, saying they'd just be thrown out. I had them in water to start, but they looked like they were rotting, so I made fresh cuts and stuck them in soil. I haven't looked at their roots yet to see if they have any, but it's been about a year now and they look the same. No growth but they're not dead. My guess is they grew roots and will do better once spring arrives again here in the states.

I'm going to try this again after watching this. The first time I tried it I ended up with soggy rotten bottoms :-(
What I find works for a broken plant stem though is to splint it with a plastic straw. Just cut a short piece and split it open lengthways and wrap it around the broken or bent section. Over a couple months the stem recovers, good as new!

    • @gingersmith2888
