Some Hongkongers who moved to Britain under the British National (Overseas) visa scheme have been struggling to adapt to their new surroundings. Many cite the language barrier and difficulties finding suitable places to live as some of the main challenges they face. But a recent survey found that BN(O) migrants are a high-potential workforce, with 69.2 per cent holding at least an undergraduate degree, and 66.8 per cent having over 11 years of work experience.

These migrants’ parents went thru the same experience in the 90s before HK returned to China. There were a influx of immigration to N.America, Australia & UK at the time. They stayed for a few years realizing that they can’t assimilate into a new culture & find similar work either due to language barriers or need to be retrained. So they went back to HK to work again and living a satellite family arrangement.
Nothing has changed, racism is here (just people are more subtle about it.) It’s full circle on repeat.
It's not just the parents... a lot of the kids who grew up in Canada moved back to HK too after graduating!
Racism is an excuse for those who never blend into the new culture. They should be grateful to live in the UK. They will find the most racist place to live is Chinese-speaking countries - cancel culture and various kinds of discrimination.

These Hongkongers also realize the fact that major Chinese communities overseas comprise of mainly people with mainland China background - those that they discriminate and marginalize back in Hong Kong.
Yeah, this is true. The overseas Chinese diaspora are also quite close to mainland china now, or at least much closer than say 30 - 40 years ago.
Is not easy to start a new life in a new country, different person, different culture and different anything, just because their government said yes to our Visa doesn’t mean their people accepting us too.
It's hard and it's also easy to blame the fact on being a different race or language or culture. Thing is, it's hard for a variety of reasons. Assimilate yourself into the community by taking language classes and learning about other cultures and customs. Don't limit yourself and your family to just a small world of Chinese people. Expand your horizon. Open yourself to the outside world and the world will welcome you with opportunities and friendship. Make friends. Participate in the local communities. Help others when you can. Get involved in non-Chinese community events. The world is much bigger than what you are used to. Shop at non-Chinese markets and restaurants. You'll find most of the local cooking ingredients far cheaper than Chinese ones. Open up yourself to the Host country as they welcome you. Be open-minded to other people, cultures, and beliefs. Don't feel sorry for the HK folks moving to the UK. They did so at their own initiative. And the UK would certainly not accept them if these people were not already financially well-off. The UK is not interested in providing a refuge to these Hong Kongers (they are not refugees) - the UK govt is only interested in the amount of wealth these HK people would bring with them. Many people in power today are descended from those Normans and I'm not just talking about the Monarchy.
Around 65% of people in England today identify with being English and generally they are the working classes.
People who identify with being British in England are generally white middle class or ethnic minorities.

My Dad came from Ireland and never was subjected to any hate even with the IRA bombings going on in the country at that time.
You do have a point, however..... UK's native-white population is now under 80% of the total. Out of the 500+ MPs, there are close to 100 that are of South Asian, African and Arab origin (1 of Chinese origin). The NHS and many positions in the civil service are significantly staffed by non-whites. Most telling is Bo-jo's cabinet which has at least 3 members of South Asian origin. Mayors of South Asian origin are constantly being elected in certain cities in the UK. In the media, in schools, in 'textbooks', a certain non-white racial group is elevated to star level when the reality is far from it. Etc.
From this - we can clearly see that these HK migrants who will maintain a subservient position when in UK but will in future, instead of bowing to the previous dominant group will do so to another dominant group(s) who will have no qualms about asserting their authority over others. At the very best, it will be a ''Balkanised'' future for the UK and the docile-HKers-in-UK will be trampled in the middle.

Life depends on how you make it, no matter which part of the globe you relocate. It sure is difficult to adjust to a new environment.
I was in my 20s when I relocated to HK. I have the options of living in 2 other countries (which I have visited several times in the past), but I decided HK being my home now, is quite difficult to leave. I do not know what politics is. My suggestion to those new settlers is to be part of the culture and work for your own living. Live with the rules and obey the law, that’s just about the best way to leave in peace. Quite honestly, lots of permanent HK residents are well looked after, people just don’t see it or are being ungrateful about it. They will only realise these special privileges, or will be missing it - after they relocated in a strange land.
