I recommend keeping a jar of the small scraps (you know the little ends? Plus doesn't have to be a jar, it can just be a bag or something) and using that as well to stuff them!
Genius!
Good idea! I just binned a handful of tiny scraps.
Yes!
I have a scraps... And I also use old pillows I buy them cheap from Kohl's so I go through them pretty quickly maybe changing out once a year.. anyway I wash them and then I take the fill out of the inside and use that as my stuffing. Works great. Also I do the same thing if I'm running low on the fill at thrift stores grab a pillow for $0.50 wash it maybe twice lol And then use it
as an amigurumi pattern designer this is the video I've been waiting for
it was soooooo fun!!!
Same!

Yes
Omg sammeeeee!
Hey Jenna, you're doing great on amigurumi! About the eyes: a lot of times people like to use safety eyes for amigurumi toys and plushies! They're very convenient because you don't have to sew them on. But using beads because you have them in the house is cool too!
Great tip! And I'd like to add 'safety' eyes are not safe for children under 3 years. Make sure you embroider on eyes and secure very well in that case.
@@amara560I wonder why they’re called safety eyes?
@@valuchiiii maybe bc they come with plastic covers on to make them not fall out. safely secure in toy, not good for kids biting tho
@@sunnymeowcat oh that makes sense! i’ve heard of them but never used them, so it sounded more like a convenience and aesthetic thing and I didn’t understand where the safety came from, thanks for explaining
For the safety eyes, I add E-6000 glue &/or hot glue to the back of the eyes( lots of it) to make sure they are super secure for little ones… also, Jenna, it’s easier to add the eyes before u add the stuffing… very cute & GREAT JOB on ur first amigurumis!! Love that tiny pumpkin! You can also make them out of old sweaters( recycle) or flannel shirts or just about any material!
As someone who learned how to crochet making amigurumi, those look SO GOOD for your first time. Mine were very wonky 😂
And yes, they're very addictive. In 3 years I've managed to fill every single empty space in my room with them
Normalmente nunca comento pero, tus videos en realidad me ayudan mucho con mi inglés y además es crochet!! Que combinación tan hermosa❤
éxitos con tu aprendizaje!
I’ve never been drawn to crocheting my own amigurumi. I think they’re so cute but just not what I want to make. I think I’m the most drawn to wearables / bedding
Edit: I forgot the entire back half of my comment lol, what I was meaning to say what that this is inspiring me to give it a shot!
Same!

Why do I like you so much? You are so real, nice and funny. Maybe is that why.
When I saw the title I am like: 'JENNA HAS NOT CROCHETED AN AMIGURUMI BEFORE!!??' But then again, you only do crochet clothing so that makes sense 😂
EDIT: Thank you so much for the likes!!
These look terrific! Jenna, if you want to up your amigurumi game, look for a video tutorial on how to do an 'amigurumi single crochet'. Basically, the difference between and amigurumi single crochet and a normal single crochet is that you insert your hook in the stitch, then YARN UNDER (instead of over as usual). It takes a little while to get used to doing that because muscle memory makes you want to do the opposite, but what you get is a much tighter single crochet. The idea is to not allow the stuffing to show between the stitches. Another tip is use at least one hook size smaller than you think you need (Unless the designer of the pattern specifies a certain hook, that is). The tighter the stitches, the nicer your finished piece will look. If you get really ambitious, look up a video tutorial on 'amigurumi invisible decreases'. These are really simple too. You insert your hook under the front loop only of the two stitches you want to use for your decrease WITHOUT YARNING over (or under!) until AFTER you have both of those front loops on your hook. then you Yarn under and pull that loop through the two loops on your hook. Voila! Invisible decrease made. Also, safety eyes are not very expensive and you will be shocked at the cuteness factor of using them. They come in lots of sizes too, which can be used to great cuteness amplification effect as well.🥰
The dress makes such a beautiful piece of art in your home ❤️😍
I keep all my scrap yarn from crochet and knitting ends and use that for filling.
FIRST OMAZING PAIGE, NOW JENNA. THIS IS A CROCHET NIGHTTT

You are so right to comment this I’d love to see them do a collab
You can do a ghost holding a tiny pumpkin..there's all kinds of Ami patterns....I'm obsessed...lol I LOVE making tiny creatures, they always end up so FLUFFIN adorable
I was making crocheted stuffed animals in the early nineties as a preteen before amigurumi was a thing… I stopped for…erm…almost 30 years 🫣 and just recently started again, as something to sooth my brain and keep my fingers limber (bad arthritis). I started during our summer vacation using patterns I found or bought online, books I ordered, UA-cam tutorials… and it is so fun and gratifying, makes me so happy. I don’t know what I am going to do with all my new stuffies, but who cares? 😂 I’ll find some space for them. I am currently working on a tortoise wearing a hat that my daughter drew for me when she was 4, and I am not even using a pattern, just winging it based on what I’ve learned in the last 3 months!
Love your channel, Jenna! 💜
That's so fun that you got your love back for the craft again! Amigurumi is the Japanese word for knitted/crocheted stuffed doll, so that has been around for aaages. Apparently the modern day amigurumi trend came over to the west in the late 1970s. Super interesting to learn more about imo. But crochet, including amigurumi, really has exploded in recent years with UA-cam and everything.
That’s cool to learn, thanks, in early 90s Germany no one used the term and hardly anyone made stuffies like that, so when I saw it popping up everywhere again, I went „hey, I used to do that!“ And now I do it again! 😊
Amigurumi is an ancient Japanese art and has been around longer than any living person!!!!
@@didi8835 okay, as I stated above, no one used the term in Germany in the early nineties, and from what I read after the previous commenter very nicely explained the origin to me, the term became popular in the West in the early 2000s, so maybe tone it down with the multiple exclamation points. Sheesh.
I always had difficulty getting the correct tension on my foundation chains. some people suggest using your usual tension but sizing up the hook for the starting chain, which helps. what i prefer though is "foundation single crochet". i get much more consistent results now :)
also as other people mentioned: save your yarn/fabric scraps to use as stuffing! you can also obtain polyfil second-hand by thrifting pillows/sleeping bags/comforters/stuffed toys, etc.
I even like to include small amounts of plastic trash in my stuffing if the item is mostly decorative and doesn't need to be laundered (grocery bags, plastic mailing envelopes, deflated bubble wrap, you get the idea). Just make sure the object in question is spot-clean only and not meant for children, that way you can avoid issues with drying.
That vest turned out greatly!
Hey Jenna! I crochet amigrumi all the time, and I recommend instead of just cutting off your ends, tuck them into the plushie, so it won’t unravel.
Don't feel bad, some things turn out successful, some don't. It's a natural part of any creative process.
jenna you can get teddy eyes and you just pop them into crochet! so much easier than sewing in beads :)
He's Frankenstein's monster made of corpse parts; I think his eye being saggy is completely normal. They're all so cute!
Jenna is the definition of you can do all things if you put your mind to it 💗
You have fallen in to the rabbit hole 😂😂😂 I just tried one, once, now I have made dozens. They are so satisfying ❤
Ahhh I loveee amigurumi!!! I'm 13 and learned how to crochet last year and I love making little animals 🥰
Ahhhhh same. 13 year old, 1 year crocheting, already obsessed
Me too! A 13 year old , and started crocheting an year ago. Love it!
I’ve been crocheting amigurumi for 3 weeks! I love it!!!!!
@@Grace.and.Stanley cool! I also make amigurumis and crochet tops!
We're completely obsessed with your new bone-chilling besties! 👻
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Amigurumi is so addictive 😅 I fell in last year and have made dozens
Amigurumi is so fun! And, yes, seaming them up is absolutely the hardest part!
Would love this series to not only be Halloween and Christmas, but maybe other holidays like Easter, Valentine's, St. Lucia's Day, Chinese New Year, Diwali, etc. Could be a chance to explore and celebrate different holidays around the world!
Omg yessss finally! It was so fun watching you get addicted to amigurumi! I got obsessed in high school and never looked back. Great video!
Jenna, they came out so cute! can't wait to see the beginning of the Christmas Amigurumis.
I appreciate the commitment to the beads 😂 I use safety eyes! Very easy and user friendly
I recommend working in the round where possible for amigurumi. I find it really hard to keep my stitch count when I’m working flat back and forth pieces. Just make sure to use stitch markers and keep a track of your rows
They all turned out so cute!! Love them!
I love your crochet sooo much, such an inspiration
i am so proud of u jenna!!! keep up the amazing work
I love how she felt the need to clarify that Benson is a dog before letting him out
amazing start! i’m extremely impressed!!
I'm so excited for this new era!
They are so cute ! I love small things, making them always brings me so much joy
I love your vest. Great colors and design. You continue to amaze.
that is the best pumpkin ever. like why NOT make 50 put them on a string and theyre a pumpkin bunting. hung garland thing
They're so cute! I'm looking forware to seeing your collection grow
Yess!! I've been waiting for you to do amigurumi!!
Very cute not sure they wouldn’t make me nuts to make lol but yours are super cute😊
These are supper cute! I have been watching crochet day by day and she has been making a lot of Halloween stuff!
Love this, great job!
love these!
I love your critters!
You can use tiny little scrap yarn bits to stuff toys
You will see, from now on you are gonna go Amigurumi crazeeeee!!!😂😂 it is so cute!! I have a cousin, she did all Alice in the wonderland characters for my daughter bedroom decour! Crazy cute!!!
I love seeing you go down the rabbit hole of amigurumi 🥰🥰🥰 I was hooked from my first try but I still hate sewing on the pieces.
I love all your content and look forward to seeing more!
Nice job Jenna they look great
Jenna I’m very impressed you did an excellent job. They are adorable. Lovely fun video again. Thank you
They are so cute!!! ❤
This can’t be your first time doing a amagrumi Jenna, Jenna, those are absolutely amazing. I’ve been doing amagrumi ever since I started crocheting, and it took me a while to get to that point , love the gost
That Frankensteins monster is the cutest thing EVER.
I just finished my first amigurumi as well. I love your videos. So glad to see the experience through someone else's eyes.
SOOOOO cute!!!! Love watching your journey
im hoping for the day jenna doesn't think something is gonna be fast to make just because she never made it, the realization that nothing crafty is a fast project
They turned out so cute! I love your shirt!
I love that you’re doing amigurumi! It’s one of my faves to crochet and there are some really simple but really cute patterns for free out there!
I’m also here for the yearly tradition!
Pro tip for fill, buy cheap pillows and rip into them.
I was at two craft stores over the weekend. Both had small bags of fill for half the price of a firm pillow.
Very cute! Well done!
i love the sweater vest, it turned out so well ❤
your skin looks amazing!
I only recently found your channel and loved your attitude and approach to new projects (super funny too!). I've been making amigurumi for about 4 years now and it made me smile to see you give it a shot:)
They are adorable ❤
Great job Jenna! They are very cute!
omg the vest turned out so good
I love this. Thank you for sharing and putting a smile on my face.😊❤️
Dream big Jenna, you can do it. Look forward to seeing your village expand. 🥰
I have a small business making amigurumi and all sorts of other things. The entire time I crochet I watch your videos. I love watching your videos. If you ever want other patterns just lmk I’d love to share and collaborate with you!
Franky looks sooo cute! 😊
I love watching your videos Jenna. You always make me smile and laugh!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSS
That's such crazy timing, I just made my first amigurumi this week to! So fun. Definitely not the last.
these are so cute, that little ghosty is amazing ❤❤❤
Such a fun video! I got a ton of great advice before adventuring into amigurumi so when I made my first ones they turned out decent. I've gotten more confident over time 😊 Your amigurumi looks great! Also, I love how well it turned out with the buttons sewed on! I'm excited to see what other amigurumi you make!!
Jenna, LOVE the 'flower dress' in the background.
so dang cute!
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND AMIGURUMI!! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!
They are so cute ❤
I think your amigurumi guys are great fun. Been making critters and things for a while now. It can be frustrating, but also quite satisfying. Well done you!!! Cheers!
They were all amazing Jenna, and you so need to make that amigurumi Jack one day 😁🥰
I’ve always wanted to see you do it
As a crocheter, knitter and sewer, I collect all my tiny scrap yarn, little snips of yarn and tiny bits of fabric and use that as stuffing. I've seen a lot of other people who work with fibers and textiles do this too. Its a great way to reduce waste and it means you don't have to buy the plastic synthetic stuffing!
My first crochet project in 25 years was amigurumi and now I’m obsessed with making all the tiny cute things. I bought The Woobles kit because it came with video step by step! Now I feel comfortable following a regular pattern 👻🎃🧟♂️
The best thing for amigurumi is plush yarn it is a thicker softer yarn also safety eyes are a lot easier and quicker to attach.
You getting up to go ask them to vacuum is 10000% my sense of humour and I got a good giggle out of that hahaha
I'm addicted to amigurumi! It's my go-to comfort project.
ive never clicked on a Jenna phipps vid so fast 🤣
Love these! ❤ as a super beginner at crochet, i found amigurumi a lot easier to do then trying to make something like a granny square or cardigan
I freaking love lush
that freehand crochet vest you are wearing is tops!
They would make adorable ornaments too :)
You could have thrifted an old pillow and reused that stuffing to save money :) if you wash and tumble dry the pillow it helps soften up the filling and sanitise it!
I have been waiting for this ❤
I love them and great first try, I really enjoy your videos and love seeing Jack and Benson.
I was so excited for this video I can't even express it 😂🩷 I'm really looking forward to enjoying your new tradition, these are adorable and your skill blows me away every time 💜 maybe you can make dog toys one day for Jack and Benson if there are safe materials for them 🥹
I Stiller can't believe how creative uou are!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊
