    Raise your hand if you’re old enough to remember the Big East; it doesn’t even feel like 10 years ago now

      oh ya i remember back when Miami and Penn State used to duke it out just like Alabama and Georgia are doing today. Also back in those days the Southwest Conference was miles ahead of the SEC......

    All the issues with college football can be traced back to the state of Texas. Like the SMU death penalty, longhorn network, Baylor, Kliff Kingbury Arizona Cardinals hire, and now this conference re-alignment

      Problems are sure bigger in Texas. It's a football mad state too so; whatever can go right whatever can go wrong, its gonna happen there first or happen in a bigger way.

      That's because it's border territory for most of the other confrences.

      @@commodorezero no, it's because Texas has more football fans than any other state. It's religion at all levels - not just college or pro

    So it wasn't the Big 10 or SEC's fault

    • @voiceofreason2674
      @voiceofreason2674 10 місяців тому +1

      Eh it kinda was our fault in the SEC we coulda stood strong but come on getting a share of all of Texas money is too tempting. Still what the big ten did was worse

    Reminder that A&M was invited to the Longhorn Network as a joint "Lone Star Network," but A&M didn't think it was a profitable idea and said no. Texas also tried to join the SEC in the 80s, but A&M sued them and got the Texas legislature to block the move because they didn't want Texas to leave without them, an ironic viewpoint when looked at in retrospect. Paul Finebaum wrote an interesting article about this in like 2010.

      Good point about Texas wanting to go to the SEC in the 1980's. Texas A&M was asked to join the SEC when the Big 12 was formed and Texas A&M said no.

      I feel like we're gonna get a LOT of obituaries on Pac-12; it was so important and for so long. Dynasties came out of there. They were half of the now defunct friggin Rose Bowl. All that tradition is ashes now. History books. Like the fall of the British Empire, some are happy, some aren't, but when it was done its done.

      I feel like the really good ones are just starting to get production off the ground. A LOT of history cover, and I bet those disgusting media vulture firms like veritone that take down MY uploaded college football games from 12 years ago are asking for unfair $$ for televised footage...so we might have to wait for ESPN to produce one. I hate that; it should be free for all to watch old games on YT and free for anyone to make documentaries about it. F___ Vultures. Monetize everything but don't pay a kid, god no, don't do that. If it was kids that got the cash Id friggin pay just to upload.

    I'd argue that the Big 10 launching their TV network in 2007 along with the SEC-ESPN partnership in regards to the SEC Network and the Oklahoma lawsuit from the 80s have stripped away the collegiate game and it's amatuerism. I'm in favor of paying the athletes, but the Transfer Portal and the lack of regulation for NIL have been a massive mistake and U.S law does not help in that regard since the debate has made the NCAA toothless/defanged/useless as an organization because the states like California have made pay to play in collegiate sports legal de-facto. ESPN makes a lot of money off of College Football as do Fox and CBS because it's one of the top sports in the United States. Yes, the Longhorn Network is responsible for the decline of the Pac 12 and the demise of Big East football. But I would also state that the larger schools like Alabama, Florida, USC, Texas, Ohio State, etc. would benefit either way while schools like Stanford, UVA, and Eastern Michigan would suffer because of the greed of TV execs and school presidents. We let this happen

      The NCAA's Marxist bullshit of punishing kids for living in a capitalist society sure helped. By being unmovable to compromise, they created the conditions for the no rules of today. No supreme court in a capitalist USA could let that bullshit stand any longer. I hate the supreme court but this one time they finally made a decision to STOP harming poor kids good at football from doing what kids not good at football can do with impunity: be rewarded for their own sweat and blood...in a wealthy nation?

      . A Heisman winner'ss classmate can make a T shirt with his name and make a few grand by running off 100 copies. If he gives any to the kid, suspend that kid and take the heismann. NO money for you comrade! The Marxist Dialectic of amateurism forbids it! To the Gulag with you!

    This was the dumbest idea ESPN did…I think they made ut join the SEC to get out of this bad contract. Creating a network for one school…not conference, but for one school. And then ut stopped winning…that was the only good thing since ESPN tired its hardest to kill the Big 12.
