Thank you for this video. I knew I wanted to do some inner child work with my client, but I wasn't sure where to put it into the process. I also appreciate the guidance as far as what if hugging the little child is too much. Brilliant.
Wonderful! Thank you so much I love especially how the desire and imagination of the child-part plays such a significant role. This opens the way for delight and healing in a magical way that is not always present in the earnest, rightly scientific, healing ways of much of psychology.
You videos have really been helpful to me. I have a complex client which has an angry part that the client is frightened. We have worked on identifying the usefulness when this part emerged. I would love to see a video regarding the integration of this part or any other information on the angry part with complex clients with high dissociation
Hello Dr. thanks so much for this great useful video. My son is developing a fear to swallow, and he is 5 years old. How can I help him to overcome this issue?. How can I contact you?
How can i assure my inner child when i believe im worth shit. Im a loser, i cant protect or comfort this kid, i am that scared kid. It would mean nothing.
It would be very difficult for you to do this yourself. My video series is designed to inform EMDR Therapists so they can then support clients such as you and guide them through the process. Whilst many people feel they could not personally meet the inner child's needs, a relational resource could be used. Examples of such a resource I've seen are: The mother of a childhood friend, Mrs. Weasley or Hagrid (Harry Potter), Mary Poppins, Marvel characters. The resource is one the client is able to identify with and recognize that it has the necessary qualities to meet the inner child's needs.
@@MichaelPatersonOBE i really appreciate your response. I wasnt feeling too well when I wrote my original comment and have since started actual emdr therapy, which is confrontational but positive. Thanks again.
I found this example very distressing. I think I have CPTSD. Deep down, I don't trust anyone. I only really feel at peace and whole with animals, dogs, birds, etc. I would have to have an imaginary dog reassuring my inner child.
there a near delusional belief in what any therapy can do - and a near total ignorance around the critics of the research literature - i'm sure someday we will see the 'walk on water protocol'
After a training session with you, I tried it straight away, and the client found it very helpful.
You made the complex thing so nicely understandable... I thank for my inner child abondment
Your channel is underrated, more people should see it.
Michael, thank you so much for your suggesting these videos to me. I meet with that individual tomorrow and look forward to using this script. 💙
You are combing parts work, or Internal Family Systems, with EMDR. The blend action is a new one to me.

I'll produce a video about working with an angry part. Hopefully this will be in the near future.
@@MichaelPatersonOBE yes!! I so look forward to it 🙂
@@MichaelPatersonOBE yes. Anger management is something I need. Thanks.
Hi Michael, thank you for such an interesting and informative piece. It's great to see you again (from one of your past pupils of the EMDR course)
Thanks again. So helpful.
Thank-you 👩👧
