Absolutely constructive critism. I am so proud of Malaysians like you, sir. Love listening to your talks. We Malaysians, need great minds like you.
Actually malaysia already have great minds like his. the govt keep exporting them overseas. there are malaysians holding high office in govt in NZ, US, etc.
If only our government hears the people to improve right education system
What do you meant great mind by constructive critism?? Great think should be like Prof. DiRaja Engku Aziz......... Out of nothing can produce greatness!.....like Idea of Tabung Haji, like giving breakfirst to all primary student( this simple idea, Malaysia can produced so many doctors and engineers!! from rubber tapping family.)
@@shamjb2278 I am commenting about Dr. Syed here who has immense knowledge. Of course there are others in this world who has that qualities too. Dr.Syed speaks facts and not nonsense. He delivers his speech very well too! If you think otherwise, thats your rights.
@Jaili Katkutum Will the govt take heed?
Well Said Datuk Dr Syed Ali. As long coruppted politicians are in power nothing will change in this country. Malaysia is already backward 40 years. Too bad for our kids future in dark. This is called Malaysia Boleh. Thanks to the politicians.
You need to see who put the politician in power, its the people. So dont just blame politician, also blame the people...
Thank you so much for saying this Dr. Syed Ali ⚘

Indeed Sir, I used to deal with numerous ministries because of we represent our industry which does not seem to progress, though half a century ago, we were among the top in ASEAN. Those officials did not possess any knowledge of the industry and because of their rotation through various ministries for their personal progress, they are not interested with the problems of the private sector nor do have any in-depth knowledge! Indeed, their version of professors is any one with a PhD! Many are just religious studies! Indeed Dr. you hit it right! most of to-day's teachers even with a degree can't even handle basic Mathematics or Science subject! DR, please keep on speaking on this, so that more Malaysians will wake up from their slumber!
Terima kasih kerana membuka minda saya.

Our country's system is an utter faliure need to be reformed. Has been in this poor state for 4 decades. Poltics and the people in politics are dwindling and not doing their part. Tuan Syed has pointed out what should actually be done in this regard. If we have people who know what tools to be used in 'carving the stones ' then we are headed for the right track towards the desired end. A highly commended by the honourable Tuan Syed.
Thank you professor.Datuk.GOD bless you..we salute you...
Thats why parents nowadays prefer to send their kids to private colleges, the richer one 's will send to overseas. Nice speech Sir !
Very insightful and straightforward, thank you Dr. Syed Ali Tawfik 💗
Quality has been sacrificed for quantity , race, religion & politics. Boils down to leadership.
Systemic changes are needed
In education.. true
1. It should be based on merit
2. Lifelong
3. Establish more disciplines
4. Reward teachers adequately
5.Abolish political appointees
6 Fund education by State- give free education

Uitm students cakap english pun tak pandai, UPM student di tanya GMO pun tak kenal.
Need more thinkers like you Datuk
Great insight
Irrespective of religion caste or creed all we need is people who are genuine and dedicated to uplift the education system and in the process uplift our country's dismal progress. Thank you for this video only hope there will be a change soon.
Thank you very much, Dr. Sir. Good advice , but its on deaf ears. These politicians are not bothered about quality education. All they need is to fulfill certain quota for certain people whether they qualify to enter or not. But many better ones are left. This goes to government servants, including teachers, university professors etc. The good ones are leaving with frustration. Compare about fifty years ago education and now. Knowledge
Are you talking about bumi quota? Just come out and say it, no need to mince your words....
@@digijoe750 comment back here after you've read the Malaysian agreement sir
@@izzat2717 Can you even construct a proper statement. What the hell does "...read the Malaysian agreement" mean? You can stick you agreement in where the sun don't shine.
You and you silly, fearful mind have destroyed your own race and the country.
So you can go to hell.
@@digijoe750. This is a pathetic arguments. Is Malaysia in a potent vicious cycle?
If so, nobody is getting out of it doing well, except the elite.
👍👍👍 Absolutely agree, you can inspire all of us readers but it is another thing to change Malay extremism.
Respect you, sir!
The first thing that we should do is to get rid of the Quota system ! Education should not be based on race it should be for all Malaysian. How many times we heard good talented students being denied a place in our university because of this system ? When one student with good result being denied a place and the other student with poorer result manage to get in because of his/her race is this fair ? The system is destroying our talents and faith in our country don't blame them if they leave the country in search of a better and fairer life. Malaysia is the only country with Affirmative Action for the majority ! And worse is they feel entitled to it !
wow boggled my mind with a profound : Good things aren’t cheap, cheap things aren’t good.
The problem in Malaysia is we don't have a great leader that has a vision and far sighted to bring Msia into a developed country e.g. our neighbor. After 60 yrs we still lacking behind in every aspect. Currency SG$1=RM3.09 Why? Something must be wrong!
Amazing talk Prof....fingers crossed someday our country would change...for the good....fingers crossed
Sir,please make a video about the difference between modernity, modernization and modernism.Thank you.
Absolutely true and well said but as is those in power is just ignorant and arrogant....
...and racist
Dr. Syed, Most of us already know about the talking points that you are making. My question to you is and I'm not sure if you have already done it or not...is speak all this talking points and your ideas in Bahasa Malaysia, so the local people that don't have the English education currently, or don't speak much of it can understand. It's like you're preaching to the choir. Speak in Bahasa, so that you can reach out to those people that keep voting the Ministers in an those that keep harping about demolishing vernacular schools
Wow. Well said Sir. Glad I choose to communicate in English with my kids. It helps them in their studies and tertiary education. I am working wt young exec...its so sad to see many are unable to speak and write simple business letters. What can we say.
Please do a Spotify/ any podcast 👍 would definitely listen to it!!!
Hear! Hear!...we need to CHANGE!... refusing to acknowledge that we MUST change is A TRAGEDY.
We have developed a parroting system failing to develop a true thinking mind. Vernacular system was based on our political needs. This further worsen the situation. Why can't we just copy an established system. We can go to Singapore and study their success factor. But our ego is far more important than anything else. In the good old days, we had a better system. Politics ruined the good system.
Correct.
Respect Sir 👍
Well said sir, about our educational systems.
Petition for Datuk Dr Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas to do an in depth talk about Malaysia's Education System Round Two especially involving the problem we have now in the current primary and secondary school education system and how the parents play a vital role in helping their children to figure out their interests thus setting them on the right learning path or at least a path that is less damaging.
I totally agree with your ideology sir, but I do wonder is there any committee, who have the same thinking like yourself, in our country that actually carry out the ground work or challenge our education ministry on these matters . Action is really needed here , god bless our nation.
There are.
You're absolutely correct Sir.
Sir,what’s your take on jawi writings “No Questioning”to be introduced
Dear Sir Syed Tawfik, in my opinion you are the most eligible person to draft the new education curriculum and new education system and submit it to the education ministry so that the PMX can consider it to be implemented so as to revamp the education system in Malaysia.
I been visit to SK, I heard teacher talk a lot their agama, what happen to my children when the puasa month, they can't having their food in canteen, they need to practice like a malay.
I am teacher in SJK, I teach many students from other races, we are same. I teach them equity. I teach according syllabus. We are hardworking, that's why SJK get more malay, Indian, siam and others races students.I can see the different in past 20 years, malay students are growing up from 1% to 10%.
SJK has its advantages in education. Why don't think about our children future in education?
Parents have their right to send their children to the school which they think is good for their education.
Same as chinese parents send their children to international school to get better education.
What do you think about the school voucher system? Where parents get to choose which school to send their kids to and it's paid with the school vouchers given directly to parents. This is so that schools would start to compete with each other to get the students. Thus forcing the schools to up their teaching quality.
I dont mind myself with malaysian educational and political system anymore. Discarded the idea when i was in the university and had seen how unconstructive the environment was. Happily doing my own business and focus on personal and individual growth.
Malaysia as a multiracial country really depend on political will in all aspect we cant deny it. For me it is more on networking issues rather than political inteference alone..
Sesetengah guru besar pun dilantik daripada orang parti politik, yang atas apatah lagi.
Blatatant truth sir..absolutely right...Education is a holistic approach not just a paper with 'how many A's ' you procure...as far as I have.observed, education in this country has gone to dogs...First make it compulsory for students to pass their English paper @ SPM level...the rot started there which has led to complacency without realising how important English as medium to acquire knowledge.
You need to change the politicians first before can change the system, there is now way we can achieve this in Malaysia
make english a must pass subject in SPM.Moral education for the malays are compulsory.Eradicate islamic elements in BM subject.Let BM be BM just like 30 years ago.
The politicians are interested of herd community not educated community who would question them !!! Tuan Syed is actually a Mat salleh who also mastered Bahasa Melayu and thats why he sounds impeccable and immaculate 💖💖💖👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Same religion with different cultures.
It's said that many false religious people , masters and disciples have undermined the MORAL religious teachings.
Religious MORAL teachings and traditional cultural practices are of TWO different issues. Do NOT mix.
Religious MORAL values can be applied in cultural practices but NOT traditional cultural practices apply in religious MORAL teachings.
Religious MORAL teachings can purify one's bad attitude, dissolve one's bad karma and strengthen one's light energy, called the soul into powerful enlightenment and wisdom gain in seeking our original eternal lost HOME.
On the contrary, religious traditional cultural practices cannot help us in purifying our weak soul, thus give more attachments to mundane world's desires on the taboos, superstitions, rituals and ceremony rites, where these are all temporary and may undergo changes through time evolves.
Do NOT be deluded and misled oneself and others.
Thank you for sharing in self aweakening, self realisation and self moral cultivation.
The rot is too deep to rectify because on top of poor policies and poor teachers, we have a mindset among Malays that can only be described as an "opiod high" about their skills and abilities. The example quoted by Bryan is such an example. They think very highly of themselves with zero insight into their lack of knowledge and skills. The problems started at the bottom 60 years ago, when big changes occurred which made it very very easy for Malays to move up the academic ladder. So easy in fact, that exams became meaningless because Malays still moved up irrespective of what ever they wrote on their test papers. Entering a public university was a cinch because no malay failed the matriculation exam. So thousands every year enter public universities doing all sorts of degrees. There is even a BSc on nuclear physics. Soon the public services, public universities and GLCs began filling up with these graduates with an "opiod high" who think they have ability but in reality, have none. Even those lucky to be sent abroad to study, went to "grade3" universities, and who also have the "opioid high" about their abilities. So over 60 years Malaysia has deteriorated into a rotten state because we have politicians who have policies that create incompetence, promote stupidity and glorify corruption. Corruption came about because these stupid graduates are very good at three things - corruption, kleptocracy and abuse of power. Of course stupidity permeates throughout the government. Just read our local papers to find that out. Can it be corrected? I don't think so. The mindset of the Malays is very deep rooted and in part an expression of their genes, an idea promoted by Mahathir himself. So the good citizens of Malaysia will just learn to live with a broken down "muslim" country. Maybe Malaysia will be conquered! With a broken down country, anything can happen.
Maybe God is helping the good Muslim who believed and practised, which some bad Muslim also benefited in His mercy and wisdom, at the same time He is also testing them both, the gòod and the bad Muslim with the blessings. He test each individual and He tests the whole community too.
Good to hear but is too late for me I left Malaysia long ago
dr, what is your view on compulsory subject that must pass in primary and secondary school? such as sejarah.
I thought no more exam??
@@nguyenhong8558 no more UPSR PMR exam, BUT these test still goes on in school itself. as for sejarah subject it is compulsory to be getting a pass in SPM last i heard
Total agree and support that the government should pay teachers better cos there are the ones who plan an important role in building better and greater next generations, not the politicians. Yes, police should receive better pay to reduce corruption. This government gets almost everything wrong.
1st (Home) from parenting, education of morality. 2nd (school) 1 school with 1 universal language. Apply to all level. Independently ! A level humanity quality only produce A quality product. A ground breaking evolution
Please speak on when polis are without integrity
Can start with teaching Malaysians to have your standard of the English language, Sir.
Now the former long lasting PM was voted out with forfeited of his deposits even his whole group of candidates.
Therefore, hoping for the overhaul of the education system with no quota of failures considered as qualified graduates.
The political issues in universities is not new. Most of the educators are doing their job for the sake of monthly sustainability.. there’s few who are truly passionate towards building and raising the interest of the students to be in the universities.. However, like what dr said, some professor or “atasan” only believe on their position to rules. I believe, every educators, professor or even the board need to adapt with diachronic process.. listen, be wise… thank you Dr
Malaysian secondary schooling has a wide field of studies, the real problem comes when the jobs we apply for do not really use the knowledge we have.
Quality Education is the problem of this country. Every year spending massive of investment but not sure where it goes. If we got good quality nation school, who would want to send their kids to Chinese, Tamil or international school?
I'm too old to listen to advises that were needed a day after the British colonist left.
Is Malaysia in a potent vicious cycle ?
Malaysia also has the big problem on favouring the Malay race, of leaving out talented people of other races, forcing them to migrate or at least, work overseas, thereby causing a brain drain in Malaysia. The corruption is too systematic to allow beneficial change to the country. Even Brunei is copying its corrupt Malay get rich first system through non-participation in actual work or capital investing, but simply using their name as an enterprise partner/s.
Sir i think you should be the next PM of this country. We need critical thinkers like you to bring the people especially the Malays out of their 'kampong style comforts' behaviors. What say you.Our other PH leaders carry too much bagagge to take this office. We have lost valuable time and have no more time for politics. We only need a man who can do the job.You are the right man for yhe job.
The Timah whiskey fiasco shows Malays could be led easily on a wild goose chase.
Betul. Kembalikan tujuan pendidikan kpd pendidikan menuju akhirat, mengutamakan akhirat, kerana Allah. Menyediakan umat yg menjadikan dunia sbg jambatan ke akhirat.
Jauhkan pengaruh politik dan birokrasi
What are you talking about .Malaysia put many efforts in religious education
based
In Malaysia the education system is in a sad state...cos, the govt has involved tge islamic religion in the system. In all govt primary schools there is islamic studies which is compulsory for muslim pupils...whem they already have sekolah Agamas in progress...!!
Thats the reason it has put off the nonmuslims from accepting the sekolah kebangsaan..this has caused a segregation of the youth. Religion must be excluded in education and politics...only then a country like Malaysia which is multiracial can progress...😢
malaysia don't produce quality and qualify teachers because the malaysia recruits 99% bumiputra in all universities regardless of the poor qualifications. in those years when we have multiracial of quality teachers the salary in teaching wasn't good compared to today. the government has tremendously upgraded the teachers salary knowing well that 99% are bumiputra. being a bumiputra is indeed like the saying silver spoon fed.
Its True ..You Pay Peanuts ..you get peanuts.....You don't expect to buy a BMW cars ..with a proton saga price...if you can... prove it to us...this is really happened in all industries ..and system in Malaysia.. which runs by the politician ,cronies and the big influencer

Lets focus on the 8 intelligences, 8 school systems
actually we do have technical schools etc, but people rather go to national schools...
Need more educated Malays to speak out to save the beautiful country. Malays forget easily, is the weakness, reason is due to religion been abused by the leaders to win their hearts ♥️
Need more educated Malays to speak up? Do u have these people around? They r the products of this KOYAK edu system, can u expect them to speak up the right thing ?
do you support abolishment of jenis schools?
Yeah, no one support the abolishment of schools of anytime. This is just a political ploy by the ones in power to victimize the minority.
Self-servers abound, this is what you mean.
We had this kind of "revamping initiative" via Talent Corp establishment during Pak Lah's reign but then it was suddenly abolished. Even though the scope was more focusing on the skilled labour/professionals with the hope to lure them back and serve the country, but then it should have been a great platform to start this whole idea. "Knowledge is power".
Let us start with the expulsions of those irrelevant (read stupid and old) politicians first. We need fresh liberated young bloods to lead this country, esp those who are dissociated from the mystifying riddles of ketuanan & tiktok fanatics. Heheh
Same thing applies to Indonesia.
Good pointers Sir,... but you didn't mention about the (one type of) religion element that is glaringly existing in our lousy education system !! This religious indoctrination (one particular religion only) across the board is grossly wrong !! Education should be a wholistic approach.. leave religion and politics out of it !!!
Corruption leads to systemic injustice and disasters
OMG 450 universities in Malaysia ? ? And most of the non-Malays cannot get in because they do not get 5A’s or they cannot afford the fees to get in ?
I also had graduates who should be practicing medicines as they are by right medical doctors coming in to interview for a position of a despatch or office boy. Truly there is something really very wrong here in Malaysia.
Thereby, allowing these non-working, non-capital investing business partners to collect vast amounts of net profits for doing nothing except give their name as a partner in order that the enterprise can operate with its licence.
NO POLITICAL APPOINTEES ANYWHERE PERIOD!!
Stupidity is to do the same thing repeatedly and expecting different result.

Removing political influence/ interference in Malaysia is like fighting a whole country, numerous men and women like you have warned for decades about this particular issue, and yet its getting worse everyday.
In the end people respond to incentives. People can prioritize religion, monetary currencies, physical goods, family, nationality and etc. This is how complicated and hopeless it is, hence why brain drain in Malaysia is such a huge thing. (which led to lack of adherence to education standard principles due to lack of capable human capital)
Edit: 三个臭皮匠胜过诸葛亮 (Three cobblers win against a mastermind ZhuGeLiang), a Chinese idiom to keep in mid when looking at Malaysia's politics
Party culture and party dominance in ideology and education will lead to distortion of perception of truth and corruption!
Basically if you are good and you are Malay then we will recognise you and help you to improve. If you are good and you are not Malay then we would prefer that you go to Singapore, USA, Australia, UK, and so on. We just don’t want you here.
Mahathir is the main cause for this systematic academic failure in Malaysia. Most of the Malay politician are half past six people.
Waste of time commenting n giving ideas. This land's edu system is beyond repair. Big gap between SPM/STPM n O-LEVEL / GCE A-level.
