The bar in my hometown that best defines my young adult years burned down last night. I turned 21 there. Every time I came back in town the night before Thanksgiving, I ended up there. I had to come listen.
Way back 2013 when my first love dedicated this song for me. We were so young we had no idea that nothing last forever. Our memories are just my souvenirs from him. It’s already 2021 I still can’t move on! 😭
Yes I have my souvenirs 😢 we were so young, life was just happening, little did we know , it slipped away, our tomorrow never came😢❤. I know I will see you again, until then , I have my souvenirs. 😔
Dear kuya Jeo, I closed my eyes and go back in time. I can see you smiling and you are so alive. How I wished I can get another chance to see that smile again for the last time. But the real thing is, I won't be able to see your face again until my final day on this earth. I miss you so much kuya.. Rest in His arms. You'll always be remembered.
I could listen to this song every day; over and over. It is amazing how many of their songs call to me; this one as much as any of them. I lost my wife to cancer this past March, and Switchfoot has become, crazy as it may sound, a critical part of my grieving process.
@@ktmarshall1 This is the typical American Christian. Katie wants to live in some little perfect bubble of fluffy Christiany stuff. You see the world as your little perfect feelings bubble and the rest of the world. You don't see this guy's comment for him, you see his comment being all about YOU. You don't care about his soul, you care only about your flakey little bubble being imposed upon. Your little precious moment being spoiled by some wicked "sinner". Let me be the first to tell you that Christ died for him. He died horrible death for the sick, not the healthy He said. The real Christian life is about taking up your cross of suffering and carrying it. It's not about creating some perfect little world of fluffy church services and your little Hillsong "worship" concerts.

My third day of listening to this song on repeat. Been listening to Switchfoot since I was 5 or 6. Currently 27. I’m using this song to remember how blessed I am. Despite the trauma in my family, we had our good moments, too. I hear this song and thank God I still have who I have and that I am who I am, rather than becoming bitter because of it all. I’m going to see them in concert one day. Idc how long it takes
How can someone write lyrics that encapsulate an experience they weren't around for? This song will always make me think of Summit Semester '07 and my dear friend Aaron, whose life was cut short four years ago this weekend. Love you and miss you like crazy, friend.
I remember hearing these back on road trips with my mom and Sperm donor. I was so young then. Now I’m 15 and I had forgot all about switchfoot until I heard one of their songs on Pandora, it’s so nice to hear this again....brings back memories
My Brother passed in Nov 2016... he taught me all about construction.... had to repair a deck board a few weeks later...this song came on my Spotify feed and I just about crumbled... RIP 🙏 Teddy
Here in 2022. Father in law passed away last week in August 2022. He loved this music and my husband and I would sing it to him a lot. I hope God has helped you in your grief. He is helping me now.
When I hear this song, I think of my brother Shawn and my late best friend Kaylon. We were best friends since 1st Grade - I know he's in heaven now, but I miss him every day...can you hear me?
😘Happy Birthday, Jean French-Quinn😘 I Close my eyes and go back in time... I can see you smiling, you're so alive!!! Can you hear me? Can you hear me? 💞 I am still running💞 Thank you, Jon, for singing my life💖
I remember my best friend from my old school with this song. We got section seperated and it changed more than I thought. He joined the varsity and my group never trusted the varsity people cuz our school's the type to have bulies or roughhousers as varsity, and he was a really nice guy. At one point he stopped joining us, cuz he couldnt relate anymore. We just started hatung hum for that and I agreed to hate him. Then we got together when I moved out of the school. For 2 years we got close again, but we havent seen each other still, and we've only been talking online. I miss him.
This song reminds me not to waste away childhood even though I'm almost 18 it might not be considered childhood anymore but you never have to let it die :D
I hope my comment encourages some younger or mid teen years because I know it can be hard to go through with hormones and shit but when I think about it while going back to this song, it was actually the best stuff I've ever done (ofc its different in other instances of being poor etc.) but do whatever man. Ask that girl out and do what you want to do to make your life your project. :) :)
I always put this song for cry, today I feel down 😔 I left my country and my family 4 years ago and I traveled on bicycle, I lived happy and sad moments in this travel, I hope one day I come back to my country. I have many souvenirs like this song.
My crush introduced me to this song and the band and ever since then this has been my favourite song and it always reminds me of him. Lol. The band is goof though
an exquisitely gentle album despite the four swastikas hidden in the album cover art. then again, the swastika should regain its original meaning as Ra, the sun god who hath granted all known life unto this solar system.
"we were so young, we had no idea that nothing lasts forever." so much painful truth here.
If Switchfoot ever does a goodbye tour, this needs to be the last song they play on stage.
Martian Fusion YES
They always said that their last song that they would play would be “Where I Belong”
@@risenvideo8474 that definitely fits too
probably swithfoot's best that never got released as a single

That "can you hear me" kills me every time
Alan the part that kills me is "but it never sung, it burned like fire inside our lungs"
JustcallmeRockStar:P yeah that line really jumped out at me too!

@@thenondualisticmystic so hes just reminiscing the past that isn't the present directly but indirectly?
Somehow, I just hit that note for the first time! I agree, it kills me inside every time as well.
Words cannot describe how much I love this song.

Listening to this song in a convertible on a warm, starry night is amazing.
Stephen Donald warm? I'm jealous!
JustcallmeRockStar:P haha, don't worry it's cold where I live. I just have memories of driving and playing this song. : )
Stephen Donald gotcha. well can't wait till it's warm again!
a twinge of nostalgia crept up on me when I listened to this. So beautiful.
Probably my favorite song off the record.

Here's to the twilight
Here's to the memories
These are my souvenirs
My mental pictures of everything
Here's to the late nights
Here's to the firelight
These are my souvenirs
My souvenirs
I close my eyes and go back in time
I can see you're smiling, you're so alive
We were so young, we had no fear
We were so young, we had no idea
That life was just happening
Life was just happening
Here's to your bright eyes
Shining like fireflies
These are my souvenirs
The memory of a lifetime
We were wide-eyed with everything
Everything around us
We were enlightened by everything
Everything
So I close my eyes and go back in time
I can see you smiling, you're so alive
I close my eyes and go back in time
You were just a child then, and so was I
We were so young, we had no fear
We were so young, we had no idea
That nothing lasts forever
Nothing lasts forever
Nothing lasts
Nothing lasts
You and me together
Were always now or never
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
I close my eyes and go back in time
I can see you smiling, you're so alive
I close my eyes and go back in time
You were wide-eyed, you were wide-eyed
We were so young, we had no fear
We were so young, we had just begun
A song we knew, but we never sang
It burned like fire inside our lungs
And life was just happening (and nothing lasts, nothing lasts forever)
And life was just happening (and nothing lasts, nothing lasts forever)
I wouldn't trade it for anything
My souvenirs.
