IF a person works 8 hours they qualify for a 30 minute "lunch break"-- at a period the employer sets. It doesn't take long to develop heat exhaustion from working in 95° temp with humidity at 50% or more. Heatstroke is much worse, can be fatal. It can take 4-6 weeks or even months to recover from heatstroke. I have had both from simply doing yard work for myself. I believe if people are working in the heat, they deserve 5-8 minutes rest and water every hour. About 2 years ago Tx rescinded an old law that protected persons working outdoors. FL. followed suit last year. Damn shame that somehow people working outdoors in summer heat have less rights than someone in an air conditioned office.

I've worked in a factory, at roof level, adding an exhaust fan, because it was so hot, the sprinkler heads were popping. They were rated at 165 degrees. Sprinkler fitters, also had to change the heads to 180 degree heads. We would go up 15 minutes, and down 15 minutes, switching crews.
