    The pop filter isn't needed IF you position it off axis. For folks looking to limit the plosives, take a look at a sports talk video from Collin Cowherd. He uses a similar style mic, and his videos show how to place the mic and talk by it without puffing air into it when pronouncing certain sounds.

  • @jdlesatz

    Your voice sounds great. But what I would love to see/hear is when you do sound testing have ambient noise in the back ground. So that viewers can understand what the mic will and will not pick up. Without adding a gate or compression or other effects.

  • @rzr82
    @rzr82 2 роки тому +6

    The dynamic was definitely worse than the condenser: Way less detailed and a bit boomy, but I feel like that might be the fault of the pop filter. It might sound better with a third party pop filter instead of that sleeve. I love the software, but it does need to be matched with a physical controller of some kind to be truly useful.

    The symbol question: The general prohibition sign, also known informally as the no symbol, 'do not' sign, circle-backslash symbol, nay, interdictory circle, prohibited symbol, don't do it symbol, or universal no, is a red circle with a 45-degree diagonal line inside the circle from upper-left to lower-right.

    Side-by-side comparisons are still valuable when evaluating sound quality between microphones. That would greatly inform us of our buying decision if that's the main reason why we would purchase a particular microphone. Then again, different mics also sound different for different people but at least we get an idea. Sure it might sound fine but I personally would like to know if the sound quality + features and software are good enough for the price compared to other offerings in the market.

    • @DreadPirate89
      @DreadPirate89 2 роки тому +1

      But the whole point is if both sound fine then pick whichever suits your needs. if you noticed a drastic difference in sound quality from the first to the second, then you have your answer, the first is better, and visa versa. Because at the end of the day, someone isn't going to watch your stream because you have the best sounding mic on the market. If they sound fine to your ears than they'll sound fine to your audience as well.

    If these microphones are for podcasters; why did RODE only release a Windows version of Unify as of April 2023? I'm sure a number of MacOS users would purchase the XDM100 or XDS50 if there was software available to support them.

    The software seems really good and having so many submixes is a great idea in my opinion, especially the recording submix for VOD, Elgato should do the same.

    The XDM100 is a compelling package, especially with the software. Even though it sounds slightly compressed, it still sounded good and seems like a viable option.
    The XCM-50 sounded great, but given it’s a condenser microphone, I’d be a bit hesitate to use it. In streaming setups, I just find dynamic mics a lot more forgiving for background noise.
    I personally use a Procaster and I love it. However, I also understand that the microphone and all the supporting hardware does not come cheap. I can definitely see the benefits and use cases for both the XDM100 and XCM50.
    Also glad we all got to share that moment there 🤝

    So I have the XDM-100 and I love the mic, but while the Unify software has some great features, it is missing Noise Suppression and an EQ. Which is why I still prefer the Wavelink software. So, I think that if Rode either included Noise Suppression and an EQ in the software or at the very least added the ability to add VSTs, then I would like the software more. Also, you are pretty much forced to use the Stream Mix in OBS. Yes I understand the software is virtual mixer, but I like having the choice of sending one mix to OBS or sending separate mixes to OBS like I can with Wavelink. All that being said, I went back to using my Procaster Mic and Wavelink XLR. I'll keep an eye on Unify and see how it progresses as Rode gets more feedback from users. *EDIT* I do want to add one thing to this, you can use the Unify software with other Rode mics and other mics in general. However, only the Rode X mics give you the advanced features when it comes to adjusting the noise gate, compression, Exciter, and Big Bottom. Also, if you don't have a Rode X mic, you have to pay a $5/month subscription to the software.

    One thing that is rarely discussed is the latency in all of this stuff. The time to encode, send, receive, and then process the USB signal adds 20ms and often much more depending on the program and such involved. If you have two people doing a podcast and monitoring the discussion over headphones, enough delay can actually make it hard for people to speak properly, as they will hear their own voice out of sync in their headphones. That means you have to get into having multiple mixes (essentially mix minus for each participant) so they don't have to hear themselves at all.
    USB is a wonderful technology, but good old fashioned analog audio is where the sound quality is at! :)

    Wait but doesn’t the rode podcaster usb already exist tho? And it’s like 160 on Amazon? So if you can use the new software with it wouldn’t that be better and much cheaper? Like new design and usb c is cool but is it double the price cool?

      To be fair, they've been killing it in the pro-audio space for over a decade. But yeah, they're definitely doing more in the streaming/podcasting space lately.

      @@PocketDrummer A decade? Try multiple decades. Hell, Larry King was using their mics for his shows way early on in his career.

    I have been looking at Micphones so I don't have to use my headphones when I make videos. These sound pretty good the second one was OK until you made adjustments and it brought in the lows which I thought made it sound better.
