Cycling Incidents 97: VA57 TSO (close pass prosecuted) YB19 FVK (badly timed pass)

Clip 1: VA57 TSO, VA57TSO, VA57-TSO Silver Corsa makes a really dangerous and poorly timed pass. People who know me know this is my absolute pet peeve on the roads. I don't report all of these island squeezes to the police, but I do report the worst of the bunch and they always get upheld. This driver was sent on an educational course at their own expense. Hopefully they now understand why this is so dangerous. For those who feel the need to comment the ways in which I could've/should've mitigated this... there was a vehicle immediately before this one who had plenty of time and space to safely overtake. There was not time between that driver and the offender for me to safely take the lane. To be honest, I just wish I could trust people to not be obnoxious and dangerous - on this day I had to be focused on the road ahead and the surface because it was icy and snowy. Some how I didn't mouth off... I put it down to being early in the ride, and so adrenaline and anxiety levels being at a reasonable level...
Clip 2: YB19 FVK, YB19FVK, YB19-FVK quite wish I'd had my rear cam back for this one... BMW starts tailing me, I'm trying to read the road ahead for them so I can pull aside and slow and let them pass... they don't take any of the good opportunities, and sit on my back wheel, which stops me from being able to slow as I'm genuinely concerned they would just hit me... When they finally do decide to overtake, I have to brake as they're not only closing a gap to oncoming traffic, but there's parked cars that I need to go around. At this moment the BMW also chooses to brake check me... totally abysmal performance of what should be a totally routine manoeuvre. As I say - I was fully aware of them, and trying to cooperate and it just felt like they were doing the vehicle equivalent of squaring up to me. Sad.

Don't think the braking had anything to do with you. People often tap the brakes after a pass to slow a bit. Also, parked cars and oncoming traffic at night in the rain will cause many people to tap brakes. Definitely a bad pass and at the wrong time. Stay safe out there riding in poor weather at night. Drivers have more trouble with visibility in the rain at night and it is harder to judge distances.
