I have subscribed to your channel because your videos are immensely helpful to me as a supplement to the lectures for my nurse practitioner courses. Thank you so very much for doing them.

Very understandable!. Weeks before my detachment in my right eye I started squinting while driving. At the time I remember saying to myself, why am I doing this? Then days before I lost a third of my vision there were dark floaters, (not the clear type) which I thought was debris on the outside of my eye ball which I began to bathe with salt water Thanks for a very good video.

Thanks for the excellent information. Two questions. 1. Do accelerated heartbeats pose a risk to retina? (I exercise a lot, so my heartbeat goes up very often..) 2. How does smoking lead to RD? RD is caused by the vitreous jelly pulling the retina away from the wall. So how does smoking play a role here? Thanks a lot. I had a RD surgery a month ago.

i think your exercise induced heartbeats are covered by vascular autoregulation within the eye + the exercise is not a chronic condition.. for the smoking i would say as usual promoting of atherosclerosis/oxidative stress to vessel walls & dmg -> exudation of leaky walls or incr. hydrostatic pressure by narrowed lumen due to athero (in severe cases), just my guess, i am not an ophtalmologist but 5th year student

In reference to the addition of hemorrage or not affecting the likelihood of RD in the other eye, would this include blood vessel ruptures occurring from a retinal tear, or are you specifically referring to those caused by thinning of blood vessel walls?
Thank you for the great presentation!

Frequency of retinal detachment is about ~1 per 10,000 per year

Hi, can you show what does flashes look like?
I have retinal degeneration and I see flicker lights (dimmer, normal, dimmer, normal....) for the first time late at night yesterday. I am not sure if that is know as flashes or not.
This morning everything seems normal, except a bit more eye crusty mucus when I wake up.
    Thanks a lot.

3:10min what do you mean by acceleration/deceleration injuries?
Does sitting in a car or a driver job increase the risk of retinal detachment?
    I have retinal degeneration.
    Thanks.

Jason L - injuries that come from rapid change in velocity

    • @jasonl4237
      @jasonl4237 8 років тому

I do not understand what is "rapid change in velocity"
If I suddenly brake a car, I might get retinal detachment?
If other car bang into my car, I might get retinal detachment?
      Thanks

Theoretically. It would have to be pretty severe though. Mostly here I'm referring to head trauma. This can cause a shearing force on the retina. This may help:
