  • Jean Behra was one of the most versatile and fearless drivers of his time. Apart from his ability to drive fast whatever fell into his hands, from motorcycles to F1 cars, he was also known for the 12 accidents he had been involved which had left his body and face scarred. He fed on racing and lived his life having embraced the dangers of his time. "Racing is life, everything else is just waiting" he said. Moreover he did not let social taboos to dictate his love of racing. At his funeral more than 3,000 people were there to see off their beloved Jeannot, F1’s scarface, the great Jean Behra.

    Jean Behra est mon ancêtre ! Ma mère me racontait le nombre de fois où il rentrait voir sa famille et passait du temps avec elle pour raconter ses exploits, c'était un grand homme ! Aujourd'hui j'ai un peu de son sang dans mes veines, car le motocross et la course automobile font partie de ma vie. Repose en paix Jean, et sache que tes descendants vivent dans le sport mécanique !

    You deserve great respect for the effort of this good sum-up of JB's life and career. It is a pity to see so few views until now; it looks like this fine French racing driver becomes half-forgotten.

      Sad but true. Many great drivers of older generations are getting forgotten only because they didn't win enough. And all that while they drove in eras when even getting out of a race alive was a major achievement...
