no freedom, suppression of the cultures not liked by the government, overall dictatorship approach on anything the government wants, 360 degree 24/7 control, but hey...I'm sure you have lived in China and have a lot of experience with the country right?
Interesting fact: In 2022, a Harvard University survey reported that Chinese people’s satisfaction with the central government was as high as 93.1%. (When you enjoy all the infrastructure services in China, when you enjoy all the government’s convenient policies, is it no wonder that you don’t think it is the Chinese government’s contribution? Did you know that the British high-speed railway HS2 was built from 2012 to now It's not finished yet. There have been riots in many cities in the UK this year. The high cost of living and incompetent government in the UK. This is a huge difference) China has grown into the world's second largest economy in just 30 years, which has shown. The Chinese government is excellent and the Chinese people are very diligent. If you go to the poorest areas of China, you will also find that the rural areas are well developed and the government takes great care of them..All of my western friends who made visits to China came back with extremely high praises on China. All cities are modern.clean and very safety. This the true.True you can not see it in BBC when they speak about china.
I go to China every year to teach at a top Chinese university. I must say, I always enjoy my time. The respect to me and my professional background it’s incredible. Respect is everything and the Chinese have much to teach us. Good people can only be so respectful due to a government which really takes care of their society. Therefore, your separation of Chinese people and the government has no effect. And the studies of Harvard is very interesting.
Ask yourself why the people in China are living a happy good life, are you not aware that their government has a lot to do with it with great support by the people?
Well, he works for the British Embassy, so maybe not that clear minded he thinks he is. Also, I find many westerners doubt their governments a lot, and think in a way that people all over the world should do the same. Lad here still has a lot more to learn to understand China.
In the west, people are extremely propagandized, into believing "freedom and democracy" like a religion, which is not a problem in itself, but that they insist on shoving their values onto everybody.
Yes but still evil. Disappearing ministers is a disgrace. Sick. Camps s with no due process is a disgrace to humanity, even though the region is great these days. No due process is an absolute disgrace,
For those of us Chinese who have travelled and lived in the West for the last four decades, we can confirm that it's not an exaggeration to say that demonising China is the bread and butter of Anglo- Saxon mainstream media and distraction tactics of politicians, in those particular the UK and US. That begs this question: 1. Why have they been so successful in exploiting the ignorance of their audience and supporters respectively? Next, the CCP has a membership of around 93 million. Given the 90+ ratings of approval the CCP has , it begs another three questions: 1. What's so unique about Chinese statecraft? 2. How does Chinese 5000 years of continuous civilization or long History shape today's dynamic Chinese political culture and CCP's remarkabe record of high accountability ? 3. Why is there so much trust and close relationship between the CCP and the Chinese people? Answers to these questions facilitate understanding of China.
Please do not use the short form CCP but CPC. The correct term is "Communist Party of China" (CPC) although the West uses the term Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
@@htlow3598Anti-China narrative uses CCP for the negative 'Chinese' undertone and to highlight Chinese (Han) ethnicity. But China has minorities too. So CPC is the correct term.
That is a good comment. He should be careful to pass judgement on the government, as at 92 million members, it really represents the people much more completely than governments in the West. Nevertheless, this is a very good website with a lot of excellent observations. Well-done.
Yet another westerner getting it wrong again, "Chinese people and their govt are quite separate", LOL he forgot that China has 1 part, the communist party, more than 70% are party members, Chinese people support their communist govt, for the betterment of community and protection against unfettered corporate capitalists that are hollowing out all western nations.
I don't understand how you could be in China for 9 years, even working as a foreign policy analyst at the British embassy in Beijing, and still unable (or unwilling?) to see that the Chinese government is deeply connected to the people, represents the people, and is responsible for a lot of the progress and amazing achievements you've experienced in China. The CPC was created by the people for the people and is very different to aggressive, war-mongering western governments who never listen to their citizens and mainly govern in the interest of the western ruling class. I'm also from a western country and I've been to China as well. It was impossible for me not to see that the government is doing good for the people, is listening to different demands of different sections of society and works incredibly hard for the progress of the country as a whole. It was impossible for me not to see how well the Chinese authorities treat and serve the people. I witnessed how police and military personnel are doing EVERYTHING for the people. The people can get help for even the smallest problem. Very different from the West where the police will laugh at you if you report a stolen bicycle or wallet. Where they bully and harras you for being a foreigner or mentally ill. I've seen it in Germany and we all have seen it through news in the USA how poorly the western authorities treat their citizens. I witnessed how in China, simple people can file complaints online with the click of a button and the local governments will send people to investigate and solve the problem. I saw how self critical and willing to improve the CPC is. I literally saw Posters by the CPC encouraging the citizens to report corrupted government members and criminal business people. Meanwhile in the West greed and corruption against the people is encouraged and rewarded. Also, how can you not know that before the CPC took power, China was at its lowest point due to Japanese invasion, feudal warlords, and opium wars from the west, and that only AFTER the CPC took power things became dramatically better. Life expectancy was at about 35 years before the CPC, and now its higher than the life expectancy in the USA!! It continuously rose after the CPC took power. And no government in history has liften so many people out of poverty and transformed a country so quickly into a superpower. Now China is leading the world in the vast majority of high tech fields, leading the world in public infrastructure, and all that without a exploiting other countries or waging constant wars like the West and the West's puppies do. The people in China experienced a constant rise in their quality of life and have MORE (not less) freedom and safety and positive outlook than the American people. The west claiming that the Chinese people are suppressed by an evil government is not only insulting l, but dangerous, as it serves to legitimize attacks against China which aim to destroy what the Chinese people and their government have achieved in recent history. So don't claim they're separate!!!
Totally agree. One has to look at the long history of China to understand the policies of the current government. The colonial invasion and wars that swept through China in the past 200 years is the backdrop of this hard earned reform. Thx to CCP.
it's not what they say, they have to say it. if a government can oppress 1.4+ billion people, west world had better do a new head count survey and just make sure don't wet their pants.
I get the impression from watching many vids made by people visiting or living in China and even by ordinary Chinese people ...they have every reason to be very happy with their government and their leadership. There is no sign of them being badly suppressed or oppressed. Their leadership is doing wonders FOR the people and the country.
@@DodonLyonsIt seems to me that you're so brainwashed that you're going through life with eyes wide-shut! One day you'll realise that the last laugh is on yourself!
Thank you for your kind comments on the Chinese people. However you need to understand we have warm people because we also have a caring and responsible government.

(edit: Read @horridohobbies answer in this thread - he provides all the sources.) No, the "Chinese people" and the "Chinese government" are not separate things. On the contrary, it's a Peoples republic, a government run by the people. The Chinese government has one of the highest approval ratings in the world and hundreds of millions of Chinese people are involved in the CPC and their sub-organisations. It's not like in the West where the government only represents the interests for profit maximization of corporations, but it's a socialist country, it builds common prosperity and this can very obviously be observed by everyone in China. That's why most people in China are in favor of the government, because their society grows together. This youtuber says he wants to leave politics out of this, but uses the very same sentence to propagate a piece of Western fake narratives about China, i.e. that there allegedly is a huge split between the Chinese people and some kind of separate elitist and evil government who has not other purpose than to oppress people for no reason. Reality is the exact opposite and people are happy for the fast development of infrastructure and common prosperity that has happened during the last decades. The CPC ended the "century of humiliation" that US/EU imperialism has brought over them, where Chinese people suffered a lot. Since the CPC took over, foreign oppression has been ended and China is developing and improving faster than the rest of the world ever since. Don't fall for Western charlatan narratives to smear governments who refuse to sell-out their people and their resources to anglo-capitalist corporations.
Hello CCP. I recently watched a youtuber traveling china hitchhiking. I figured that the people are among the best. Then I saw the politics of china. And then it clicked. The governments sure look alike. The peoples look alike. But the government never is like the people. Not truly in the west, nor at yours. I disagree with you. Free speech and stuff.
@@felixjancik6401 I am from Germany, not China. To say that capitalism and socialism is basically the same, because they both have governments, disqualifies your whole post. Maybe look up what capitalism and socialism is in the first place. You lack basic knowledge in economic systems. Then think about what the role of the government is in either of those.

Just wondering - why you repeatedly insisted on distinguishing between 'the state' and 'the people'? Because this is what all anti-China people do, when in reality they just hate the fact that China exists and doing better.
I like your video a lot , agree 😮with everything you observed in China , except that the Chinese people are not the CCP, they are not and they are . The CCP is like an elder , parent , respected and revered , takes take of the well being of its people Its their responsibility as an elder . do you know why the Chinese government is governing? because Chinese people chose and support them! WE ARE HAPPY WITH OUR GOVERNMEN AND POLITICAL SYSTEM
There is no denying a part of it is true. But there are also many suckers utilizing the power of the CCP to steal and rob from the people. This is not happening only in the Jiang Era, to a lesser extent, it is still happening now.
China government here to look after their people. Unlike the UK & US government to leave homeless people with drugs and mental health issues and rotten on the streets with a tent!
Are you serious ? As a Chinese i can tell you that most Chinese people are leaving china now because of the Chinese government. probably the most evil government in the world
I'm English and part live in China and the UK. You saky you won't politise your video, then do exactly that. You intimate the Chinese government is no good. Which is rubbish. The Chinese people have an approval rating for their government of over 90%. The Chinese view their government as like their parents who look after them. If you've been in China you would have seen that. It's people first, unlike Western governments. I have dealings with the Chinese government and was amazed how good they are. China helped you grow and you show no respect for that. Shame on you
Calm pls. We Chinese do support the gov very much, but that doesn't mean we worship or view it as parents. Actually we're always critisizing it for all kinds of social problems on Weibo. In private talk, it would be much more fiercely.
@@vanxz7511no government is like god and even god can't please and satisfy everyone. Just don't forget that you are blessed with a good government without realising it if you keep criticising it lol.
“And we all know about the Communist Party” Well, it appears that you know NOTHING about the Communist Party. You talk about filial piety and the Chinese culture but it appears that you also have little understanding of the inter-connectivity of Chinese culture : the teaching that while children have a responsibility to look after their parents, so the government has a responsibility to care for the people, and the people have a collective responsibility towards society. All these are interlinked concepts and inextricable. Have you ever wondered why the government of China, which is run by the Communist party, consistently polls around 90% approval from the public - year after year after year ? And these are not Chinese polls, but Western polls. Gallup, and Harvard etc etc. You admit that you find the Chinese informed and educated. So do you think they are all “brainwashed” into approving their government ? Or “too scared to say how they really feel” ? The government of China pulled 800 million people out of poverty. This was not serendipitous but INTENTIONAL. In the last phase, they sent three million “party members” into every village in every province, often for years, in order to find the last people living in poverty to help them find their feet. They built superb infrastructure : the high speed rail that the West keeps on saying is a money-losing white elephant (it isn’t - the National rail company just posted stellar profits last year) that was not and would never be “profitable”. Well, the government sees this as a public service, and their duty to the people : not a business for the corporations to gouge the public. Just compare this to the UK (I live there) - the ageing rolling stock, forever breaking down in a privatised train service so expensive many cannot afford to pay. I’ll end here except to say that you either learned little, or sadly, felt the need to pander to “public opinion” as regards the “evil” Communist Party and government of China “which is entirely separate from the people”. Well, NO, it’s not. It’s part of the people and doing very well by them, unlike the UK and many western governments which ARE “separate from the people” once they have your vote. Over a million people march against the war in Iraq and the government do it all the same - based on lies about “Weapons of Mass Destruction” that they were quite aware were lies from the beginning. In a nation of increasing poverty and food insecurity and rising food prices (“cost of living crisis”) even as world food prices have been falling steadily. Just go home and think about all that.
I prefer in to live in poverty than live in a country at war for many years and a country irresponsibility allows so many homeless people taking over your town.
@@simonmaskell-ur2nk So telling the truth is an insult ? Or do you think that one needs to lie or obfuscate in order to show respect ? What part of what I said is actually inaccurate ? Just tell me that if you can. Your patriotism is to cheer on Rishi Sunak ? Keir Starmer ? Liz Truss ? Priti Patel ? You are not aware of 24% food insecurity in the UK in 2024 even as world food prices continue to fall ? 20% functional illiteracy ? Even as consecutive governments fail to tax the American corporations based here ? Even as they continue to cut local government budgets in aid of “austerity” ? You do not know that the turnout for the “democratic election” of 2024 was the lowest since 2001, and 7.9% lower than even in 2019 ? Why do you think that is ? To raise all of this is to insult ? Basically after nine years, you think the Chinese government is terrible. Did the government mistreat you in anyway? Does the government improve the lives of their citizens? What does the government do that is terrible? Is it because it is not a Western democracy?
China is a long civilized nation. The country is simply trying and working to climb back to its past position as a prosperous nation. China doesnot intend to become hegemonic. 800 years ago Cheng Ho (Zheng He) came to Indonesia to become friend, never colonized the land. In fact, he gave a beautiful AMOY to the king, and their son become the first KING of Muslim in Java, this half chinese king’s mom, the lady is a Muslim Chinese.
"China does not intend to become hegemonic.": Except in the 'Autonomous regions' of Tibet, Tibet, Guangxi, Tajikistan, Inner Mongolia, and Ningxia where it is already hegemonic.
The Chinese government and the Chinese people are one. They are awesome! China has a good government and that is why you have a harmonious society with great social cohesion. You are wrong. The Chinese government is awesome. This is politics that you are talking about which if you do not like, you should not be talking about it. Nor should you be in China in the first place.
The relationship of the people with the state is very close to one of children to parent. This is also Confucianism. If the state is abusive, it suffers the same reputation as an abusive parent. There are duties of care that goes both ways, and the people and the government both understand this. Just fyi.
The Chinese culture is over thousands of years. As for Cn Gov CCP . I believe they did a good job over 70 years from ruin to number 2 in terms of GDP. Indeed, the CCP keep adjusting or keep reforming from day one until now. The whole concept of the CCP purpose is to do good to the people. Indeed, not easy to manage over 1B people. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Anyway, welcome to China & happy for you to stay here & keep traveling.
maybe you don't want to believe it, or maybe you are still too heavily influenced by your country's narratives, but at the very least there is great respect for the communist party among the vast majority of chinese. sure, the very rich might have a different view of the communist party but even among that group the sense of nationalism and as you described responsibility outweighs their desire to retain personal wealth in an excessive way. and sure it also depends on the chinese crowd you hang out with. I'm sure chinese from hk or taiwan, or overseas will have a different opinion but if you think 90%+ of chinese don't support their government, you are dead wrong. what's the percentage in your country? I know in the usa it's probably like 30% or less. do you even know anyone or are close friends with anyone in the communist party? many have been put through the wringer and are where they are today starting from grassroots so they can associate and empathize with the common people. how about the uk? I believe there are many born into leadership positions right? I don't suppose they have any connection on how british working class go through? as you put it, I'm not a shill for the communists but as you also put it, there's more than one side to a coin so that even many westerners who sympathize with the chinese people still have a distorted view of the evil communists.

Perhaps because you are employed by British Embassy, you have to slip in a dubious statement about how the CCP government and Chinese people are two separate entities. The truth is every positive things you described about Chinese society is the result of two things that are assimilated into one - Confucianism and Socialism. And CCP is a successfully run socialistic system. If you ask ChatGPT about the similarity between Confucianism and Socialism, the following is what you get ( and I couldn’t agree more): From ChatGPT: Confucianism and socialism, though originating in vastly different times and cultures, share certain core principles and ideals, particularly regarding the well-being of society, the importance of ethical governance, and the value of equality. Here are some key similarities: 1. Collective Well-Being: Confucianism emphasizes the importance of harmony within society and advocates for practices that contribute to the collective good. Similarly, socialism prioritizes the welfare of the community, advocating for the fair distribution of resources to ensure the well-being of all members. 2. Ethical Leadership and Governance: Confucius taught that rulers should act with virtue, compassion, and morality, governing not for personal gain but to serve the people. Socialism also emphasizes the importance of ethical governance, ideally serving the needs of the people rather than maintaining the privileges of a ruling elite. 3. Reduction of Inequality: Confucius was concerned with social harmony, which he believed required reducing extreme inequalities. While he accepted some natural hierarchy, Confucius taught that those in power should care for the disadvantaged. Socialism actively promotes equality and aims to reduce class disparities through the equitable distribution of wealth and resources. 4. Value of Education and Personal Development: Confucianism places great importance on education as a means to cultivate virtuous and informed citizens. Socialism also supports accessible education and development as a means for everyone to contribute productively to society. 5. Community and Family Values: Confucianism places a strong emphasis on the family unit and community as the foundation of social order, stressing respect, responsibility, and loyalty. While socialism is not specifically focused on family in the same way, it promotes solidarity and community support, valuing cooperative over individualistic pursuits. Despite these similarities, Confucianism and socialism also have clear differences. Confucianism accepts some degree of hierarchy, particularly within family and social structures, while socialism advocates for classless social structures. Nonetheless, the ethical emphasis on community, equality, and virtuous leadership creates a significant overlap between the two ideologies.

As a Chinese (local Beijinger, lived in Canada since 2002-2012, back to Beijing in 2012), I can say this, the relationship between us ordinary people and Chinese government, could be very hard for Westerners to understand, but that's totally understandable. Chinese government really looked after CN people, the relationship is like parents and kids. We really look up our government, local police, and our army. When we encounter any problems, we always trust, and rely on our government! They took good care of us. I lived in North America for 10 years, in my opinion, a huge country like China, we need a STRONG STATE, they always come up with effective policies, and get them done, without spending all the time to debate. I know its hard for Westerners to understand, but I have to say this, the Chinese people can always count on our government, and we are proud of it, and we love our government.
some time we Chinese people got offended Westerners separate Chinese people and Chinese government, the development in China, the peace in China, we give all credits to our government, and we appreciated our government.
I have to say you didn't waste your time living in China in these years. You have correct and deep insights to the core differences in those perspectives you have mentioned.
The Chinese people wouldn't be as happy as they are now if it wasn't for the good and able government of 1.4 billion people. I’m glad you enjoy your experience there. I’m born and raised in HK. Studied in US, immigrated to Canada but now doing business in China. China has always been a densely populated country since ancient time and now has 1.4 billion people living together in a relatively small place. That's why Chinese people always seek to live in harmony and that also explains why Chinese people don't want to put things to extremes like personal freedom. One's arm freedom depends on how close it is to another's face. Chinese people advocate balance in everything. Freedom comes with responsibilities and there is no absolute freedom in a society and that's why there are laws to limit people's behaviour. Chinese people know the importance of good government which they can rely on for security, peace, order, development and prosperity. That's China and that's Chinese people.

Nice one! I totally resonate with your #9, as I've learned the same thing from my 33 years in Asia, and all my travels and meeting so many people. We all want much the same thing, we all have much the same values, just that we have different environments and challenges which can stress us and make us act out of negative energy. But when stress is absent, we are all human!

Three messages for you 1. You have not mentioned a word about Confucianism and its impact on Chinese society. 2. Chinese people subscribe to Country, Family and Yourself in that order. Party name remains (for historical reason) but they are a hybrid of socialism and capitalism.

Except that we were colonized and therefore oppressed and impoverished till to this, we as Africans have a similar stance on morality, friendship, family, respect for people and more especially the elderly and parents, looking after our parents and the elderly, loving and sharing including with strangers, using plants and herbs for healing. It’s just a pity that Africa and Africans today are like what they are today ravished by poverty, crime, drugs, unemployment etc etc and no proper direction because of the western world continuing to be the overlords of African leadership, controlling what is going on in Africa. That’s why a lot of up and coming Africans prefer to work with the Chinese government. China is a model of how a country should be governed and run! It is an amazing country which when we were growing was demonised by the West. I love love love China and its people, and I wish I was able to go live there! I wish the western governments could be humble enough to learn from the Chinese government and its society.
Great 9 lessons. The 10th lesson will be how a citizen (and his/family) relates to the nation. Confucianist philosoply sees a harmonial hierachical relations of an individual to family to nation. So adversarial relations between individual vs state or libertarianism is very foreign to the Chinese. The state, like the family, is supposed to take care of the individuals and vice versa. Yes, there needs to be a paradigm shift to understand the culture and politics. That's why Chinese leaders always talk about mutual respects. Chikdren respect parents, and parents respect the state. And nations respect each other. Harmony is the key to everything.
Hey Fred, appreciate you sharing your lessons learnt from living in China for 9 years. Very honest snd down to earth stuff. You hear that from the China hawks from the US all the time. In their heart of heart, they hate the Chinese government because it is competent and effective. Moreover, the government is approved, respected and loved by the people. These China hawks would love nothing better than to regime-change China and replace the government with a weak one; one they can manipulate. So I hope it was just a slip of your tongue on your part. Otherwise, you have just insulted the Chinese people by telling them that their beloved government is bad and evil.
Hi Fred Thanks for another excellent video. Are there any books about that that you would recommend about learning about the culture, history, and society?
Your understanding of political leadership is seriously FLAWED; the Government of the People's Republic of China is well-loved, well-respected, well-represented by the Chinese people. The only thing which I must make clear: the Government of the People's Republic of China doesn't have to have anything to do with foreigners, the likes of you.
What you're saying is always true anywhere. The governement is different from the people. And it's good that you appreciate how rich the culture is not only in China but in the whole of Asia. Because for some reason, western people are always surprised that Asia has so rich a culture. I would argue that Asian is richer than european culture just by the merit of being larger and more diverse. I live in europe now and I was underwhelmed by how similar european culture is in each country.
It is an insult for you to say Chinese and Chinese government are seperate entities. Listen carefully! We Chinese support our government and CPC. Please don't say you love China and on the other hand insult our political system!

For those of us Chinese who have travelled and lived in the West for the last four decades, we can confirm that it's not an exaggeration to say that demonising China is the bread and butter of Anglo- Saxon mainstream media and distraction tactics of politicians, in those particular the UK and US. That begs this question:
1. Why have they been so successful in exploiting the ignorance of their audience and supporters respectively?
Next, the CCP has a membership of around 93 million. Given the 90+ ratings of approval the CCP has , it begs another three questions:

Thx to CCP.

No, the "Chinese people" and the "Chinese government" are not separate things.

“And we all know about the Communist Party”
Well, it appears that you know NOTHING about the Communist Party.

You do not know that the turnout for the “democratic election” of 2024 was the lowest since 2001, and 7.9% lower than even in 2019 ? Why do you think that is ? To raise all of this is to insult ?

Perhaps because you are employed by British Embassy, you have to slip in a dubious statement about how the CCP government and Chinese people are two separate entities. The truth is every positive things you described about Chinese society is the result of two things that are assimilated into one - Confucianism and Socialism. And CCP is a successfully run socialistic system. If you ask ChatGPT about the similarity between Confucianism and Socialism, the following is what you get ( and I couldn’t agree more):
From ChatGPT:
Confucianism and socialism, though originating in vastly different times and cultures, share certain core principles and ideals, particularly regarding the well-being of society, the importance of ethical governance, and the value of equality. Here are some key similarities:

I have to say you didn't waste your time living in China in these years. You have correct and deep insights to the core differences in those perspectives you have mentioned.
The Chinese people wouldn't be as happy as they are now if it wasn't for the good and able government of 1.4 billion people. Politics has contributed to the advancement of China over last few decades. The improvement is ongoing even though the west is trying to suppress this. Politics is very relevant.
Good video on how Fred's views and understanding changed.
You are a very fair, educated, man with a broad vision, mind, and a good level of understanding with a high level of acceptance, and willingness to learn of different cultures. Ambassador of Pease
This is an example of empty vassal makes a lot of noise.

Mr Englishman, all good governments are calculating and cold, but the really good ones will benefit all its people, especially the marginalized ones. You said you don’t want to talk about politics, but you implied that the Chinese government is inhospitable. Please make corrections to your speech.
The chinese government the ccp cares for the people n helped to 800 million people out of abject poverty n the people are grateful to the government for doing that it is no easy feat bravo china
That's why learning language can make people got more compassion
*Hi Fred, being a Chinese, I am your new subscriber from HK. I agree with most of your points. I think the most important one is filial duty. Have your learnt in Chinese 百行孝為先. I hope you have a happy and successful life in China.*
My experience is pretty like yours when I visited China for an extended amount of time. My only worry is that their innocence and good nature might get exploited by foreigners, hopefully that never happens.
I’m glad you enjoy your experience there. I’m born and raised in HK. Studied in US, immigrated to Canada but now doing business in China. I see a broad cross section of all the cultural difference you’ve talked about. And I’m old enough to firm my value system to take the good and why they are there. No culture is all good and no government is all bad. Have an open mind to everything is important.
You are very insightful. Respects. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Very very useful info, thanks! I'm a Brit (embarrassed to say these days) and have lived in other countries over the years. I'm currently progressing to have independent income so that I can leave again. I'm interested in moving to the East. Will be following you now.. 🥰
Really interesting ... Thank you for sharing 😊
Rather refreshing & different style of video to the 100's on here, well done. I lived in Xinjiang for over 4 years & the people are wonderful, agree totally with you & of course the food. Its all about balance, I'm sure like you, something's you find difficult to get on with, the way things are done, but most importantly, the people are wonderful. I miss China & the wonderful generosity of its people!!
You are wrong about Chinese government. Chinese government has highest support of the public in the world. China is called the people's republic not for no reason because it is run by common people too, not by aristocrats or elite political families as in UK or the USA.
Well said. He's lived in China 9 years and says that. 😡
Couldn't have said it better
thankfully he's no longer in China and can rot back in the UK.

He is connected to the UK government. 😂
人家眼睛沒瞎,你把全世界都像你这么坏
Very well put. Objective and balanced view! Thank you Fred.
British people and the British government are one, this is why England is doing so well, there's never any Briiltish people protesting against their government to show thrir dissatisfaction. LOL 😂
Insulting the Chinese people in the whole world

thanks for your unique insight! really appreciate it
Thank you for your point of view. I really enjoyed a foreigner's, in this case yours, view and understanding of the Chinese Culture and traditions. Love the explanation and examples of what you've learnt. Cheers
I would say the Chinese government is also very nice, just like the Chinese people, even though she has been demonized in the West. The Chinese people have a much higher approval rating of their government in general.
Thank you for sharing with us your observations and your toughts. Hope you visit China again.
Good to see you making videos again. You motivated me in the past, you're one of the OG you tubers for me
u still carry the biased about China n CCP, u should give credit where credit is due!
otherwise the video is ok
i suggest u stay longer in China n learn more, embrace China n it will reward u!
I suggest he goes back home. He has already been in China for nine years.
A prosperous healthy peaceful country depend on how its govt is handling it….mannn!
Thank you for sharing your experience at China.
bow?? hahaha.... in china, one only bows to the parents and seniors (old school) during new year, to the teachers at schools, to god/s at temples, to the ancestors at cemeteries, to the deceased at funerals
Chinese 5000 years of Civilization surely make difference😃😃
10000 years really
Lol, that was thrown away by the cultural revolution and Mao
@@internationaldailytv6179 Nope, only Egypt, Iran and Syrian, Iraq Ethiopia, and India have
10,000 years of civilizations.
And mono-culturalism. Multi-culturalism weakens countries.
Great video. Absolutely right, two sides of the coin. I really appreciate your view and how you absorbed other people's POV. It's 1984 all over.
Keep you the good work 👍
Heaven is China ❤
Three messages for you 1. You have not mentioned a word about Confucianism and its impact on Chinese society. 2. Chinese people subscribe to Country, Family and Yourself in that order. UK is about myself, myself and myself. 3. The Government cannot be separated from the people (see Point 2). China is no longer a communist state. Party name remains (for historical reason) but they are a hybrid of socialism and capitalism.
Doesn't Buddhism have any role? It was more a part than Confucius.
@יונהאליראשון Buddhism has not been integrated into the Chinese political system. It has only been integrated into China's daily life. However, Confucius' Confucianism has been integrated into all aspects of China. It can be said that without Confucius, China would basically have nothing... …
Great to see you had a great experience as I did myself for 12 years.
I am always watching videos on the cities of China and I can’t stop being blown away by some of the futuristic architecture, the landscape, the beauty and cleanliness of the cities! Everything including transportation is just out of this world! It’s an incredible country! Paradise! The Chinese government has built heaven on earth for its people and not wasted money through greed on colonisation, wars and corruption!!! The western world has a lot of catching up to do! Kudos to China!!!
If you love China…it’s bcuz of the good teaching & governance of CCP to its people…Chinese. If you hav a good govt. serving sincerely for its people…the outcome will be good discipline people & a peaceful , safe , progressive country to live in.
This is a very good summary by and large.
I wish the western governments could be humble enough to learn from the Chinese government and its society.
Everything you said shows that you are a Chill for the British government.
thumb down alr. Chinese ppl and Chinese government are NOT separated. It seems that you’ve wasted your 9years in china
Very good video and in fact, your experiences are very positive and true. Thanks
He works for the embassy, so this dude is inseparable from the government, he has to parade the parody of his government
Bet your parents are pleased to see the changes in you.
Hey Fred, appreciate you sharing your lessons learnt from living in China for 9 years. Very honest snd down to earth stuff.
Not sure if it was just a slip of the tongue when you insinuated that the Chinese government is bad but the Chinese people are good. At about 3:30 into the video.
That’s so “western”.
Welcome back to China again
Family, that's why you don't see much homeless people.
while you say you know Chinese government and ccp, you actually know nothing about it😂
Hi Fred Thanks for another excellent video. Are there any books about that that you would recommend about learning about the culture, history, and society?
When Shakespeare created Iago, he turned the spotlight on the dark side of the British ruling class.
Welcome back, returning to human civilization is definitely a good thing.
In the US mil (almost 10 in) we are being taught that Afghanistan, Vietnam, Iraq and Korea are overwhelming victories.
Very good content. You targeted the good view 😊
It's the western mind thinks that way.
To run a country as efficiently and smoothly as CPC has done is not an easy task.
He is a westerner that has not studied the impact of Confucianism on not only familial but also governmental relationship with the populace. The government to the people is as the parent is to the children and there is a firm understanding of the contractual obligations that extends both ways. These Westerners see only the obedience of the people and assume it is because of tyranny or authoritarianism.
He might not realize that we treat our government and leaders as our parents.
