The clock was the only thing that didn’t work and the deep dish ash tray was not original as someone stole it when they stole the change.

Boy o boy, that is so beautiful....Back then the various GM brands were really different from one another. That is one of the nicest looking cars ever produced.
no one would have believed it if this car would have played the main roles in the role of a bandit well the type of driver is not visible and the car knocks people down and drives away
@@loucostabile I have some old rare stuff a 66 Impala 1975 cosworth Vega Buick Skyhawk and a 87 trans am GTA but nothing like you got that's real nice and I bet she drives really nice down the road
Not only that. It's a shame how they slowly killed Pointiac over the course of the 28 years that started with the end of their own V8s then the Fiero compromise, then them just being re-badged Chevys. They tried so hard to stay a performance brand. They carried the big V8s all the way to 1979 when all the others had given up. Then they tried turbos when they lost the big motors. They wanted the Fiero to be a high performance sporty compact. But GM was afraid for Corvette sales. They were starved out so Chevy could be the great one. The GTO was their last shot. And almost none of it was Pontiac :( R.I.P. Poncho
@@331Grabber you know the true story! So sad. Should've been America's Porsche. I'm still pissed. I hate vettes because of it. Imagine a Banshee with a 421SD in it.
Pontiac was set to overtake Chevrolet in the late 50's and early 60's but the powers that be were having no part of that. They handcuffed John DeLorean one of the more brilliant men to ever be in the auto game. GM could have made a retro looking GTO when they came out with that joke of a car in 2004. A GTO looking like a 1969 Judge or maybe a 1965 model Goat.
@@331Grabber This the sad story. GM wanted Chevy to have nearly all the glory. The 455SD was nearly stillborn. The Ram Air V WAS still born. Did you know that Pontiac produced a 303 CID version of the Ram Air V? And did you know that Pontiac produced a 427 that had overhead cams and was one of the best looking engines I have ever seen? So much they tried was stopped by GM management to keep the brand behind Chevy.

Pontiac was always one of my favorite manufacturers. Pontiac built the 1961-63 421 Super Duty Catalina's which we're factory drag racers and they built the coolest muscle cars out of any of the GM divisions(64-72 GTO, 67-74 Firebird/Trans Am) and we're the only manufacturer still building cool cars in the late 70's gas crunch era(77 Can Am, 75-78 Trans Am 400/4 speed) GM should've axed Buick instead of Pontiac.....even though I love the 70-72 Buick GS/GSX and the 80s Grand National/GNX. Didn't need another luxury car manufacturer when they already had Cadillac
Jeremy Thompson thanks. We ordered a 1977 Trans Am Special Ed( Velour INTerior, Auto TA 400/AM Radio, HURST TTOPS,tint window Delete, ) in OCT 1976 & revived in March 1977 . Incidentally without pin stripes, & with screaming Chicken, the Hurst TTOPS always leaked, etc... Though was best driving car I ever had: used Family Driver for some 13 years, rust & wear were terrible,... in Warsaw IN Auto Salvage presumably.. Interestingly my first real sighting of a speed Car was a 61 ?SUPer Duty set up for Drag at US30/ Bunker Hill Drag Strips, etc....boggled our 15 year old Gas Station Hang out, etc. Fun..

hey Lou, I know you mainly cover stock original cars, but since you`re in Delaware and looking at Pontiacs, can you cover Jeff Kinslers 68 Firebird (Pontiac powered) street car that runs 7 second 1/4 mile times on stock suspension?
Hi joseph laperuta, I do like stock cars, I also like modified too. I'm planning the 2nd 1/2 of the year in AZ, IL, and maybe IN & MO. Sounds like a great car for sure! Hopefully I'll see the car in my travels. Thank you for sharing details on the car, Lou
I wish you would have focused on the "build sheet" a little more. One of my teachers in High School's mother worked as an executive secretary for the Hurst Corporation and was given an SSJ Hurst Grand Prix as a long time employee. She traded it in 1970 for a newer car. I don't remember what year hers was, but my teacher said she should have let me know when she was looking to trade (since she knew I was a car nut in school.
The door handles at 4.02 are done on custom restomods today (think KindigIt Design). They are an example of how GM divisions weren’t talking to one another.......what a great idea that should have been shared across divisions
As you can see from the picture of my car above this, I too am a avid Pontiac buff, seen so few of the Hurst editions, beautiful car, as far as parts go, there's a lot more available for that 72, than there is for my 73, I too need a sunroof cable, and it's next to impossible to locate stuff for my car, enjoy that beauty, see you at the gas station

1 of only 60 made. Big torque - 380 ft. lbs. net. The standard bumper jacks with the little slots in the bumper were a disaster. Very easy to either bend the little tab on the jack, mangle the slot in the bumper or both. And that's also were rust would start.
I did not know there was a Hurst Grand Prix anyway that's cool I like those old Pontiac's my dad had a 73 Grand Am 73 Le Mans and a 75 Le Mans GT they were cool cars but the Grand Prix were nice cars too
my friend had the exact same car with that 455 but it didn't have the trans am wheels this car has and it certainly wasn't a hurst like he says this thing is but it did have the same dual snorkel air cleaner... that was a big deal back then
This car is extremely well outfitted and will remain a High Value Collectable into the Distant Future. I do wonder what figure would pry it out of this proud owner's hands. The aggressive burble at idle does seem to indicate that the engine has been modified, I would like to know how. I ask myself, How much would I pay for this car?
Yep, I don't tune in too often but that needs to change. I watched your episode on the Gaylord, I mean, just brilliant, brilliant. Oh, another thing: I am glad you don't join the habit of adding music to the background.
Hi manoman0, Glad you'll be watching more. The Gaylord is an amazing car :-) Stay tuned, as I'm going to have an "extended cut" with that one as I happened to meet the Restorer of the car who shares his thoughts, Lou
Nice car. I wonder what Pontiac was think, skip the tach and put a clock instead. That way you will know what time you blew-up your motor. How much does a tach cost compared to replacing an engine?
I think I may just know this car. If it’s the one I’m thinking of I know the previous owner. It was in Newport Delaware the last I knew of. If Wolfe could respond that would be cool. I can’t imagine two of them around Delaware since there was only 60 made. Thank you.

The comment from the owner "The few times I've driven it..." what? That is a shame. Too many times I've heard "It's just too nice to drive" from muscle car owners at shows. That does it, I am NEVER restoring my car, I buzz through two tanks of gas every week when weather is nice...10's of thousands of miles of quality seat time over the last 7 years. Garage queens are just plain wrong in my view....What a waste. It is about the experience, not preserving a car....Drive em!
@@loucostabile No offense to the owner, I know there was a trend in "investing" in Musclecars....maybe he has a collection and only has certain drivers....Still Awesome car that I would love to drive for him...hehe...
That right there was not a true Burst Grand Prix because everybody know when they build a car they always put their brand a shifter in the car regardless if it's a four-speed or automatic I had one with the Hurst his and hers shifter they always put them in their cars when they put their name on it if you want to get it to be true he need to get one of those shifters in there because all of those promotion cars came with them

Sadly, that was a common issue back in the day. I had a beautiful 1975 Cutlass Supreme with a half vinyl roof and that poor thing rusted so badly there were huge holes throughout the body. Unfortunately "rusting out" was common in American cars a long time ago :>\
It's a shame that this car spends its life on a trailer or in a climate controlled building. Cars are meant to be driven, regardless of their "pedigree" or rarity. If Jay Leno, who owns six-figure value cars can drive them on a regular basis, this car deserves to be out on the road enjoying the landscape. Hate if you want but as a car enthusiast and gearhead? I would much rather see this car get some use, instead of being left to look at occasionally.

And almost none of it was Pontiac :(
God i love that sound!
:-)
what a cool car i know where a 72 shell to one of these is in a old junk yard in northern MI but not much there you can still see the paint two tone on it

24k Gold Nostalgia !!!
Nice :-)
Hi Jeremy Thompson, Glad to read you enjoy this brand :-) Lou
Fun..
I owned mine since 2007. I brought it back from Hawaii. I'm restoring mine but, with a couple of upgrades!!!

hey Lou, I know you mainly cover stock original cars, but since you`re in Delaware and looking at Pontiacs, can you cover Jeff Kinslers 68 Firebird (Pontiac powered) street car that runs 7 second 1/4 mile times on stock suspension?

Hi rmcc55, Thank you for sharing your story on the car you were looking for. The black & gold one would be fun to find now to video and share with the Viewers. Lou
Pontiac made beautiful cars that were far more pretty than what Chevy made. In fact I would go as far as to say that Pontiac made more beautiful cars overall than any other American make or model. RIP PONCHO :(

1 of only 60 made. Big torque - 380 ft. lbs. net. The standard bumper jacks with the little slots in the bumper were a disaster. Very easy to either bend the little tab on the jack, mangle the slot in the bumper or both. And that's also were rust would start.
Great catch! Always chase any Hurst down that you see.

This car is extremely well outfitted and will remain a High Value Collectable into the Distant Future. I do wonder what figure would pry it out of this proud owner's hands.
Hi GT-37 Guy, I agree, it's nice to drive them. Lou

Too bad about the rust under the vinyl top.
Sadly, that was a common issue back in the day. I had a beautiful 1975 Cutlass Supreme with a half vinyl roof and that poor thing rusted so badly there were huge holes throughout the body. Unfortunately "rusting out" was common in American cars a long time ago :>\
:-(
It's a shame that this car spends its life on a trailer or in a climate controlled building.
