What a wonderful accent and person! Just reminded me of old days when all tv movies where full of cowboys and same accent as this guy and we just dreamed to come to Great America!
Wade is brilliant. So much valuable information shared. One of the most detailed free vids I have seen on the beautiful art and science of Beekeeping. Thank You!
Born and raised in West Virginia, but I have lived in Texas for many years. My son and I just started beekeeping here in Central Texas. Wonderful, informative video! Thanks!
Wayne is a wealth of knowledge and technique for Beekeepers. Great Video to present to City Councils to explain beekeeping in an Associations quest to have the city encourage beekeeping and/or become a Bee Friendly Designated City following Beekeeping Best Practices. Thanks Wayne and thanks V Dept of Agriculture for you support and assistance. Perhaps the State of West Virginia will be the First Be Friendly State !
Good video. Some friends of mine up here in Ohio got into beekeeping about a year ago, and yesterday when visiting their farm, I got to suit up and help check out their colonies. It was a really neat experience!
Great video. Just getting started in the Adirondack State Park. Will take a class first. Getting things organized to begin in the spring. This is one of the best videos I've seen so far. Thanks to your dept in WV.
This was a really awesome video. I plan on raising bees in the next year or two and am trying to prepare with all the knowledge I can before hand. I learned more in this video then I did watching 20 other beginner videos. A lot of great info that I did not know about getting started! Thank you very much Wade! You're a wonderful teacher!! Please, if you have made any more videos, can you post the links in the comments here? That would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you so much for making this video!!
@Bianca, it is now 12 Nov 2019 over 2 years since you last posted about starting in the next year or two; so have you had the opportunity to start yet? I finally retired from active duty U.S military 29 Aug 2019 and hope to be able to sell my house in OH by May 2020 to purchase agricultural land in Jamaica to start off-grid and self-sustaining living. Bee farming is part of the self-sustaining that I will be doing. I have 1/8 of an acre of land (on my first house) big back yard in TX that I might start practicing gardening and bee farming (if it is allowed where I live since I live in a city). I can at the very least have a few hens for eggs and start practicing vermiculture (worms breaking down waste product from food peelings and paper, etc to fertilize garden). I am so excited...even if it takes me a few years to get whatever property I purchased secured (fenced entirely....Jamaicans [which I was born and raised the first 18 1/2 years of my life...I will be 41 Dec 2019]) are crazy...they are killing ex-pats (returning retired Jamaicans) for their money. I hope I live long enough (at least another 5-10 years) so I can funnel my retirement money in savings to my mom she can have a retirement savings to living off...which even though she is 20 years old than me, I feel as though she will out-live me by maybe another 20-30 years. Anyway, I hope you had the chance to live your dream....I am much much closer to my dream than I was almost a year ago....I am now free from slavery (working for someone else). I will never work for anyone ever again.
I'm so happy I just got my very own piece of land! First thing I'm doing with it is start beekiping. Well, maybe after I build a road to actually get there easily XD
Thank you for making this video. Lots of great information and presented in a very logical manner. I took a class in December and am now set up to start 2 hives when my local vendor has my packages in April. I notice that your apiary in enclosed in an electric fence. I would love to know the details of the fence since my area has a couple of black bears that I will need to keep away from the hives.
Thank you!!!! I really loved this video! You're a wonderful "bee teacher", so clear in how you explained everything, and I love your accent! ;) I have been fascinated by the art & science of beekeeping for quite a while now. Perhaps one day when I have the proper space, I'll do it.
I had a small nuc box for a group of bees. It’s original hive was in Riverside. They refuge in my backyard. Their hives was hit with hive beetles so beekeepers killed them with with pesticides. About 200 bees was in my little upside down potholder. They start dying off. I made them a home. But bees don’t live long . Honeybees don’t sting me. They like my presence. I had a queen bee following me took her outside with a leaf
Thank you!! I know this is an older video but it has helped a lot. We found a colony living in a hole where our meter is so we ran out and bought a hive. Feeling a little overwhelmed cause I didn't have time to research to be able to help them. It is now almost fall and they only had a honeycomb about as round as a softball. We rubber band that to one of the frames and we went ahead and started giving some sugar water. I am worried for them. We are surrounded by nothing but cornfields. I just want to help them.
The best bee care video!! Will Wade be making any other beekeeping videos (like how to care for bees during the winter, etc? Thank you, Margaret from Washington state
Margaret, unfortunately Wade has retired. He's still in the bee business (so, I guess he's semi-retired). Our new State Apiarist Shanda King is a gem as well, full of bee knowledge! We're working on a new video with her and hope to have that posted in June. Check back soon!
Always s pull the end frame first - pulling from middle can roll your queen = killing here! Starting from end, gives you room; move frames over work towards the middle...
i would start with 4-5 hives, what if both hives are doing poorly? this spring i am going to start a new bee yard with 5 nucs, 4 of them are going in to full hives while the 5th is going to be a brood factory for the other 4 hives, Michael Palmer's methode looks interesting and i want to try it next year. if it workes out i am going to expand it.
This is a great video. Very informative. I raise bees and created some videos for beginner beekeepers. I am hoping they will be helpful to anyone interested in raising bees.
Well i called the city of Taylor here in Michigan. No regulations on ber keeping so Im doing it....now where to begin. Soooh much to learn where to buy bees hives etc...i lome that flo hive any thlughts on that...thank you
I just got me a 10frame Langstrof hive box, that has two brood boxes and one honey super. I notice the inner cover does not have a notch in the side. Is there supposed to be one? It gets hot here in San Antonio, TX so I want to make sure it gets proper ventilated. Also the bottom board that came with it is solid. Should I swap it out for one with a screen so I can check for mites?
I’ve never kept a single bee in my life, but I am thinking of starting in the next 1 or 2 years or so. Do you have any tips for person who is new to bee keeping?
If bee numbers drop, maybe its a virus, what to do then? Inspect hives more often I understand. Some on yt treat for varroa, some say they never treat, alot of conflicting information out there.
Is it possible to have one huge beehive? Like a Langstroth with 1,000 deep frames? I have looked into Perone hives, but it seems that most people just buy the Langstroth hive and go with that. I want to build a big one in my attic, that is climate controlled. I'm just wondering if it would be possible, which brings a couple questions. How many cubic foot can 1 queen spread her pheromones to, or is there a maximum? Also with a huge hive, like a Perone hive, could it be big enough to have multiple queens in the same area?
Great video but he doesnt explain the basic of how a hive work and organize. So in short once you get you nuc what is the follow up to get you honey harvested step by step
I have a great Question about honey bees ? I been beekeeping for 9 yrs and I'm selling my home this spring and I am looking to buy a home in west Virginia and is there certain stipulations I have to do to have honey bees in west Virginia ?
Steve, everything you need to know about bees in WV, you can find on our apiary page on the WVDA website. You'll find it at: agriculture.wv.gov/divisions/animal-health/apiary. If you have questions, contact sking@wvda.us.
@@HILLBILLYSFIREWOOD Thank you, sir. I will keep that info in mind. I had to replace the queen recently, so I checked today and saw larva, capped brood. The hive was queen less and I saw no eggs, larva or brood a few weeks ago. I now see positive signs. Thanks again

If I ever get to go to America, I want to go somewhere rural like this 👍🏻
I live in the Wv and you are welcome here any time.
Wade is just great. Very informative and tells it to you straight. Listen to this. He's good 👍 👌 😌 👏. Thank you. And take notes.
Tremendous short introduction for newbees. Every subject he mentions is a summary of a library filled with bee books. Must be a nice state..
I have never been so overwhelm with a hobby in my life. I think I need a mentor to even take the first step.
Great video. Watching from Donegal, Ireland.
Good video. Some friends of mine up here in Ohio got into beekeeping about a year ago, and yesterday when visiting their farm, I got to suit up and help check out their colonies. It was a really neat experience!

Great video, thinking of bee keeping myself....I only have African bees at home...any advice?
Not everyone has mites. Here in Western Australia we don't have varroa mites or small hive beetle. Great Video though.
Thank you for your educational video! Could you please tell us where we can purchase a large black feeder like yours?

Great education video.
We saw a mite how did Wade remove it off the worker bee? Did he use powered sugar or did he kamikaze that bee?
Very informative, thank you!
Didn’t find queen in the first box but did see a capped queen cell in the bottom box he failed to mention

Maurice Upton, Ask 5 beekeepers the same question and get 6 answers.
Am I the only one who wants a colony of bees for the express purpose of making mead?
Brewing is my second reason for starting beekeeping, Honey and wax are the main reason for me just because they're easier to sell.

Register bees?!?! I can't believe that... and in WV. There can't be a good reason for the government to know if ppl have bees. Help me out here.
Next, they will come for your guns...lol.
they need to know cause of the very bad viruses that can infect bees.
Our gov would make you register your poop if they could do it. All about CONTROL.
@@CenterTree777 And, you know, Deadly diseases that can easily wipe out honey bee populations.
That information may just save your bees when someone wants to spray pesticides close your hives. Someone can alert you.
good afternoon what kind of bee breeds do you keep? I want to breed good bees

It's good to know they only take the "extree" honey. lol
Thank you
We are lucky not to have the varroa mite, but it’s only time that we will eventually have it in Australia 🇦🇺
This is good

How do you feel about every other week for checking the hive?
@@chuckroast7053 , winter time i go every month. Spring and summer every week, keep eye out for queen cells... have a good one buddy and take care.

Name a person keeps bees
What's your reason for not wearing gloves?
Randy, Wade prefers not to wear glove because he finds it easier to handle the hives and other equipment without them.
