    Being a metalworker I never think about using wooden jigs like this, what a good idea!

    its great you demonstrated the lap joint with the angle steel. I see so many people doing mitre joints. The lap joint is structurally stronger and the fit up is easier. mitres are way more work almost never fit up square. I know there are a ton of other people who make videos and who watch your vids will see this and say eureka!

    I like your tables they are hard working shop units and perfect designs. However I'm 61 years young with back problems so some would be great for me but the short ones would have to have the legs adjusted. You will see this as you get older. I will make mine taller. Also your welding always looks great I know you know why, but half of the home welders think all you need to do is weld the joint, wrong you need to clean and grind the mill slag off the joint and grind the joint to take a the fill weld for a good bond I swear every weld job I see is shit.

    How much do you have to clean the steel before you paint it? Typically, it comes with a coating of.... something on it.

    • @MrAndrewmcgibbon
      @MrAndrewmcgibbon 8 років тому +2

      the coating is mill scale. ideally you should grind it off. But, it can be a bear to remove. If its flaky at all hit it with a wire brush disc on a grinder to get off as much as you can. 3M makes a special scotchbrite disc that strips rust and mill scale off pretty easy, but they're expensive. (like $55 for a 7" disc for a right angle grinder).

    why you don't make the cuts in 45º for the squares of the table? its cleaner, tighter and looks better...

    • @emeralddragon1996
      @emeralddragon1996 8 років тому +4

      those lap joints are structurally stronger and alot easier in general. easier to setup, easier to get straight (45°s are very rarely straight, close but not perfect), easier to weld. much less time consuming overall.

    • @kreg9912
      @kreg9912 8 років тому

      Jimmy chooses not to acknowledge many of you armchair quarterback, uninformed, second guessing, wanna-be, builders for an obvious reason -there's too many of you negative whiners out there. Nice job Chris for fielding that comment. Si-nostril, maybe you should just watch Jimmy and learn, instead of explaining basic joinery to him -I believe he's proved himself enough by now. BTW, Sin-eggo, that was a fascinating alcohol stove video that you posted, my buttox is still clenched to the chair from all that amazing, and well thought out content. I'll make a suggestion; why didn't you just drink the alcohol & have TOOL jam in the background -that'd been more interesting. Although the Denatured Alcohol would give you one nasty hangover-good for ratings, eh?

    • @kreg9912
      @kreg9912 8 років тому

      Hey Sin-talent-troll, who's got the short fuse? -really? You question Jimmy, but you can't handle being questioned and second guessed; most of you troll chumps are like that. So your reply was -you cussing and bragging about yourself; your effort posting a lame stove was weak, but you find yourself superior enough to give Jimmy pointers and question him? "Good luck with all of that" Sinus-blow. Save the fire extinguisher for the next time you play with fire, you may want to clean it off first since we know where you store yours -I guess that's what you're into. Maybe a video of what a fire extinguisher's real purpose would help you out. This has been fun!!!
