- Tang Soo Do Grandmaster Ho Sik Pak tells his origin story of how he began his training in Tang Soo Do as a young boy just outside of Seoul Korea.
Grandmaster Pak is best known for his character Han Cho in the 1989 Martial Arts movie Best of the Best, starring Eric Roberts, Phillip Rhee, Simon Rhee and James Earl Jones.
Grandmaster Pak wrote 2 books and he has produced a full line of instructional videos and authored "Complete Tang Soo Do Manual - Volume 1 (2002) and Volume 2 (2005).

Grandmaster Pak was my instructor back in the mid-nineties before he moved his studio. I miss that man. He is a good man and a great instructor.

Sensei Ichi.... Very cool to see you interview Grandmaster Ho Sik Pak ..... my 8 year old has been training for the past 4 years under another master who is one of Grandmaster Pak’s senior students. Because of this my daughter has had the good fortune of being trained by Grandmaster on several occasions and has attended several of his tournaments and was even promoted once by him. He is so impressive and gracious... I’m not training, I’m just my daughters chauffeur, lol and see Grandmaster Pak 2 to 4 times a year, yet he remembers me and my daughter every time and is super approachable, and always smiling ... a truly great man... What do you think was better the first movie or the second? Personally I love the first more though the second was awesome which both had Kane Hodder aka Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th 7, 8, Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X.
The first is by far the best of the best.... The 2nd one wasn't thaaaat bad, it was a decent sequel. It had a Rocky 4 vibe too it. After that, it got a little tooooo weird.

I used to do this form of tang soo do 3 years ago and I was taught under his students in a small time dojo but it closed down man I missed those days
Wow,I have all 4 of the Best of the Best movies.The first installment is to me by far my favorite.It's great to hear from one of the characters from the first one.I love his story about Tang Soo Do.His character was a very competitive adversary in the movie.

Wow this is amazing Sensei Ichi as Grandmaster Ho Sik Pak is one of my favourite Korean martial artists in the first Best of the Best films, along with the legendary Philip Rhee and his brother Simon Rhee, both also in the Best of the Best film. I was under the assumption that Grandmaster Ho Sik Pak was a Taekwondo exponent, as opposed to a Tang Soo Do practitioner.
Thank you for such a wonderful interview, as well as for in doing so, clarifying this erroneous, perceived misconception of mine. I would say in my defense that in the Best of the Best films, also starring the late Chris Penn the brother of Sean Penn, along with Julia Roberts' very own brother, Eric Roberts, the theme featured martial art or at least in the storyline, was that of Taekwondo. I am looking forward to getting his books as well as DVDs as I like learning from other martial arts styles, such as Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, Hapkido and so forth. I am intrigued that his organisation is called Hwa Rang Tang Soo Do, the reason why I mention it, is because Hwa Rang Do, is one of the ancient Korean, indigenous martial arts, along with Taekkyon, as well as Ssireum (Korean wrestling), predating Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do. How did you come to meet master Ho Sik Pak if I may ask? Lastly I hope all is well with you, your family and your students over there in the USA, especially with the current Corona Virus epidemic. I came to meet him while searching for Hwa Rang Do Tang soo Do schools in my area. Another subscriber had mentioned him being in Best of the Best and I knew I had to meet him and get him on camera. I reached out to him and he obliged.

I met him back in early 80s in US Air Force base inJeonla Bookdo province.I believe he was 4th in black belt and taught Dang Soo Do at the Air Force base.I was only 1st black belt in Kook Sool Won he was good I mean good compared to me..lol
I remember he got married to lady who was in US Air Force and I cam to American few months earlier than my self.I’m so happy for he’s success.

There’s technically no real difference Tang Soo Do and taekwondo are sisters but Tang Soo Do is the more traditional style while taekwondo was made a sport
