My favorite thing about Baymax is the fact that he is, in fact, just a machine, with an algorithm to be helpful to people, both emotionally and physically. And although his advice is heartwarming, he's being very literal with what he says and we interpret what he says subjectively. I guess I'm saying that he is just a robot that is following the directives of his programing, but it is the characters and audience are the ones who are forming emotional connections with him. Pretty cool to me.
I appreciate that he is simply a robot following his protocol as well. There are many robots in fiction whom writers feel they have to make more human so audiences can relate/like them. So they cease to behave like robots. But with Baymax, his behavior is always robotic but people love him because of his programming to help.
The man who made him (rest in peace) was the one who instilled these protocols as well. Just imagine what kind of person he was, to know all of this and to have no bias, understanding that menstruation is just biology, how to help someone concur a fear, and he instilled all that into a robot.

I get what you're saying but for me, Baymax is not just a machine that follows its programming. He's way more. He was maybe a machine at first but if you rewatch his first appearance in BH6 and how he acts in the series, I think he evolved a lot pass his programming. The thing is, he learns by himself. Like in BH6 he takes things litterally and doesn't understand expressions at first but then he learns along the movie and is able to recognize when people are not saying something litterally. Just like in the series, he's able to recognize humour and has a body language that he had not in the movie (like shrugging his shoulder). For me that the signs that he's not just a machine anymore but a robot that learns.
So when he is being heartwarming, I like to think that's because he really is and saying that he's just a machine following its programming is ignoring his character development and the progress he has made by himself. At least that's how I see it.

I wouldn't say that at all.
I'm impressed. The animation looks like it's on par with the movie. Usually there is a step down in quality, but this show doesn't do that. And it looks like it has more heart than I was expecting as well. I expected Baymax to be relegated to "Dumb robot that acts stupid to make the audience laugh." But it looks like they held onto his well-meaning healer notion as well.
Thats why i was worried with the concept and avoided watching it - seeing this video made me realise that its actually decent quality. Am gonna go binge it now xDD

I saw a review of the original movie that said something along the lines of “Baymax forces us to confront our need to care for ourselves and be cared for, despite our stubbornness”. This miniseries captured that aspect of him perfectly. He’s so determined to help people, even if they don’t wanna be helped. It may just be his programming, but at the last episode we see it inspires everyone he meets

I loved the aunt cass episode, that woman works so hard every day, it must've been so hard one day to find out her nephews were orphans after her sibling and brother in law/sister in law died. Losing Tadashi years later must've been harder, I imagine she began working harder and harder while also worrying about Hiros growing depression, such a sweet woman who lost so much in tragedy after tragedy.
He's surprisingly charismatic for a machine. Tadashi built it for mental healthcare, just as much as physical. And that made him...a bit human
Tadashi really made the most amazing thing. A friend who's there for you if you need 'em.
Robotic or not, Baymax shows what true kindness is. Bless his mechanical heart.

People seem to miss the fact that baymax is a programmed robot not sentient BUT BUT he was made by tadashi. He doesnt follow medicine like a text book programmed bot, Tadashi put a part of himself in baymax to allow human familiarization and connection.
He's not sentient, but he is certainly capable of learning in order to improve his disposition to future patients.

My mom passed away earlier this year and how baymax talks while being the best robot ever, is exactly like how my mom talked to me when I was in a bad spot. @@tahraethestoryteller6079 The first season and the first half of the second season were pretty good, balancing action, heartfelt moments, and comedy like the movie. Sadly there was a major drop off after that point. I hesitate to even acknowledge the third season.
