One more reason why this sounds the way it does is the passage at 0:12 to 0:16. I'm not a music theory expert, but I believe that what I did there was a major modulation, instantly followed by some suspended chords that bring even more pathos before the resolution and return to the minor key. Don't take my word for it tho!
will you be doing a review of ewql's new opus sampler? i've been told a lot that it's significantly better but i don't really wanna risk buying it considering how notorious play was
THat is so true man! if I am correct the progression at 0:12 to 0:16 is: IV Maj- V Maj - VI sus4 that resolves to VI Maj instead of VI minor, which the listener would expect since that the VI chord in a major key is Minor. You are basically modulating from the parallel minor to major. So in the key of Cm, that progression would be: Ab Maj - Bb Maj - CSus4 to CMaj (Instead of C minor) You hearing this kind of resolution a lot in the Zelda games:P And to be honest I overuse it as well😉
Awesome video man, your orchestration are always so inspiring and beautiful to listen at. And then iI am not even talking about the toturials and explanations you create, so well done!! You inspired me to create more orchestral music and now I am addicted to it haha :)
As I started learning orchestral music, the first channel i found was this. Alex never fails to motivate me on epic tracks....im glad he returned (this channel)after long time....lets go!!
1:16 Alex! It is great that you are highlighting the woodwinds section. So cool to hear how that sounds and how it adds to the entire layers of the orchestra. You rock and amazing seeing you share your passion for composing with us!
Awesome! Alex, I'm starting in the world of vitual instruments and I'm so glad that I found your youtube chanel. There are so many important information, thank you! You are a great musician!
Love to see another tutorial from you on this channel. I've been watching your work for years now and your tutorials are so helpful as I slowly work in music production! Awesome stuff, Alex!
Man I just found your channel and it’s great! My love of orchestral music started with Star Wars way back as a four year old in 1980. Then the next big thing that really impacted me from an orchestral perspective was the soundtrack to one of my favorite video games, Soul Blade on PS1. I came to realize that I’ve always loved orchestral music. I’m going to try my hand at composing a piece and see what happens! Maybe just a short fanfare for starters. Love your channel my brother!✊🏾
In my understanding (and preference), the key to a LOT of great orchestrations and popular songs alike is *good base line.* Whether it is contrabass, bass guitar, or another contra-instrument, in many of the great and admired productions I enjoy are well-written base lines, which can serve complementarily to the harmony and melody, or provide the foundational direction and gravitas. Either way, write your base lines, friends!
Could make some more longer tutorials? I know they are more work for you but they are much more informative and helpful in my opinion. Regardless everything you upload is a treasure so thank you either way!
I Alex, you use many libraries and also the Metropolis Collection... can you make a video explaining how you manage the latency, delay compensation of the libraries and his instruments? It's very struggling this! Can you help about your experience? CHEERS!
i really thought you closed this channel but i felt happy when it was revived. also really want to know how to come up with these kinds of melodies. what notes should i choose from the key scale that i picked?
Hi Alex. Love your Videos. I have a little (may be silly) question. I'm a CG artist. I create music as a hobby. I'm about to make a PC that can handle my CG workflow and also FL studio. Should I go with AMD Ryzen CPU or Intel CPU ? If I select AMD will it be a downside for orchestral music with FL ? Thank you so much.
Just did my first build w/ AMD Ryzen 5800 cpu, only notice FL Studio running multiple Kontakt instances dropping out when I've got a bunch of Firefox tabs & evernote open. Granted no experience w/ heavy graphics
From my experience it won't matter. Just get the most cores with lots of ram. I'm still using an i7-3770k with 24g ram and it can usually manage between 8 and 24 tracks of kontakt. My main pc is a Ryzen 5800x which i've never maxed out yet

It’s not the layers that make it epic… it’s Alex’s awesome face expressions that do 😩👌

In case you haven’t checked them out already. Alex has a good bit of older tutorials in a longer format, which are imo still worth learning from 🙂

Could have probably phrased it better but my english isn't good enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
