Rock Goddess are worth checking, little known, but their 2 albums are a cut above most NWOBHM bands of the era both in song writing quality and production standards.
Great memories of living in London 1981-1984. I used to see Rock Goddess live at a lot of local venues. Marquee club primarily.. Did you know they are playing again and released a album last year! Great Band. Turner sisters still rocking!!
Totally agree. I only recently discovered Witchfinder General (totally by accident) when I came across both Death Penalty and Friends of Hell in mint condition at a local thrift store. Best $2 I've spent in a while.
Nightcomers by Holocaust is one of the very few albums from NWOBHM I'd keep if there could only be 5 allowed to exist to represent that era. It just has everything the british heavy metal is about. The guitar work is fantastic and really heavy and pounding for the time. The whole album reeks of youth and attitude and the things that inspired metal from the start in Britain. And every song is so good too. Just absolutely superb.
I wish every work week could start like that, to tell the truth this video gives me the feeling that I'm going to go to school instead. What a beautiful time it was ... 😊👍🤘
Great choices! There are SO many others that it's almost impossible to narrow down to a shortlist. Totally agreed about Chateaux. Criminally underrated. Should have made the big leagues. The only thing that held them back was the usually poor Ebony Records production.
Wolf (Black Axe) - Edge OTW is permanently on my iphone. They got screwed by Chrysalis records. Got my vinyl copy on Mausoleum records donkeys years ago. Nine inches of God - lyrically brilliant! I’m gonna check that out right away!!
So nice to see someone acknowledge Wolf. I bought their album on cassette way back when, loved it, and pretty much wore it thin. Sadly I never got anyone else to like them as much as I did, except for my brother who I suspect was mostly humouring me. I really wish they had continued to make albums.
Here’s my top 10 list: 10. Demon Pact Released from hell 9. Tygers of Pantang Spellbound 8. Cloven Hoof S\T 7. Angel Witch Screamin and Bleedin 6. Chateaux Firepower 5. Samson Head on 4. Cobra Warriors of the Dead 3. Saxon Power and the Glory 2. Iron Maiden Killers 1. Dark Heart Shadows of the night
My favorite band of all time will always be Angel Witch, not just my favorite nwobhm band. Flawless debut followed by two great albums that were different but also a product of the time. Finally making an album comeback with two incredible records in the last decade. other favorites are Jaguar with Power Games and Dark Star. That Holocaust album is also a great one which I personally consider an essential nwobhm release. But for me when it comes to the nwobhm a lot of the best stuff is in the singles and EP's with stuff like Mythra - Death and Destiny and Virtue - We Stand to Fight, and we can also mention Jaguar here again with the Axe Crazy single. (Therefore maybe the best nwobhm singles video would be a good idea?) Wolf was one of the first nwobhm records I ever ran into and it was very difficult to find before all the High Roller re-issues. Fantastic record.
Man, gotta say to you: THANK YOU!!! Thnaks to your video I've just discovered three truly GEMS that I've never heard before and they sound FUCKING AWESOME!!! Greetings from Brazil

They almost always seem to have been produced for AM radio in cars. A shame. Great music that could blow walls down if the tone was left in the mix. I wonder how much that played into Priest and Maiden making it like they did in contrast.
Agreed on WOLF and DARK STAR - two excellent underrated albums. Other than that I'd go with: PRAYING MANTIS - Time Tells No Lies SAVAGE - Loose N' Lethal SHIVA - Firedance GASKIN - End of the World TYTAN - Rough Justice WILDFIRE - Brute Force and Ignorance PERSIAN RISK - Rise Up TREDEGAR - Tredegar (same vocalist as Persian Risk)
Wow! Deep Switch was a band I loved back in the day, never thought I'd see them on a UA-cam video. They had a great song called "Pigfeeder" that was nuts! Other great bands I can think of are: Demon; Vardis; Paralex and local band to me: Blitzkrieg.

Excellent list. Actually discovered a few here. Thanks! On a side note, I thought you should have kept your best thrash metal albums of year XXXX going. You're entirely knowledgeable enough to make good, well informed lists, that showcase the struggle that all of us thrash metal fans went through during the darker years. Good records were few and far between, but still were around. And I'd also live to hear your take on the ''thrash revival'' since the early 2000's when most bands got their shit together and started putting out quality stuff.
Excellent video. I love how 3 or 4 songs predate the riff from 2 Minutes to Midnight but that was obviously the style then. You can hear a big philthy animal Taylor influence in a lot of the drums of these songs. And specifically priest , maiden and even queen in the guitar melodies.
Their recent album is very good. Better than any of their previous albums. The vocals always turned me off their old songs, although I thorougly enjoyed their EP only track 'I,m not coming through'.
I love the first album by Praying Mantis called "Time Tells No Lies" from 1981. The cover is awesome too!

Great memories of living in London 1981-1984. I used to see Rock Goddess live at a lot of local venues. Marquee club primarily.. Did you know they are playing again and released a album last year! Great Band. Turner sisters still rocking!!
@@Wizwiz2112 I remember seeing the at the Marquee club to.
great video, more like this please!
👍🏻
I Love the NWOBHM scene, for its Sound, its bands, and its impact. I appreciate that you did this video. Please do More!
it's coming!
The two witchfinder general albums are hidden gems, also chariot, 🤘
Cheers!
But WG not "criminally overlooked". Chariot are better live. Toothbrush Klan rools!
Totally agree. I only recently discovered Witchfinder General (totally by accident) when I came across both Death Penalty and Friends of Hell in mint condition at a local thrift store. Best $2 I've spent in a while.
@@chriss.8582 Wow you got them for 2 dollars 😮🤘
@@chrisdowling8094 At the time Witchfinder General definitely was. They only started to get noticed when 90's doom metal took off.
I love it too. 🤘
Idem
I wish every work week could start like that, to tell the truth this video gives me the feeling that I'm going to go to school instead. What a beautiful time it was ... 😊👍🤘
The good 'ol days! 🤘
Thanks man all those are new for me, very underrated but great albums
Great choices! There are SO many others that it's almost impossible to narrow down to a shortlist.
Totally agreed about Chateaux. Criminally underrated. Should have made the big leagues. The only thing that held them back was the usually poor Ebony Records production.
Cheers! :)
Spartan Warrior!!! I've seen those guys like maybe 10 times and they don't fucking let down.
Nice job
This was nice. The bands on this list just picked up some new fans.
Continued success to you
Thank you, Cheers!
Dug up some gems on this one. Great video thank you.
Thanks boss, a video about some overlooked German metal coming up soon. ;)
My favorites :Wolf 🐺 - Edge of the World
Holocaust - The Nightcomers /Metal Mania
Elixir and
CHATAUX
Wolf (Black Axe) - Edge OTW is permanently on my iphone. They got screwed by Chrysalis records. Got my vinyl copy on Mausoleum records donkeys years ago. Nine inches of God - lyrically brilliant! I’m gonna check that out right away!!
That Wolf album is a great discovery. Thanks! We need a part 2 of this top 10!
maybe some day. :)
So nice to see someone acknowledge Wolf. I bought their album on cassette way back when, loved it, and pretty much wore it thin. Sadly I never got anyone else to like them as much as I did, except for my brother who I suspect was mostly humouring me. I really wish they had continued to make albums.
Cheers!
Here’s my top 10 list:
10. Demon Pact Released from hell
9. Tygers of Pantang Spellbound
8. Cloven Hoof S\T
7. Angel Witch Screamin and Bleedin
6. Chateaux Firepower
5. Samson Head on
4. Cobra Warriors of the Dead
3. Saxon Power and the Glory
2. Iron Maiden Killers
1. Dark Heart Shadows of the night
I love Screamin' and Bleedin'. Better then their debut imo
amazing album but nothing beats that debut. :)
Bergtatt is awesome
(Therefore maybe the best nwobhm singles video would be a good idea?)
Wolf was one of the first nwobhm records I ever ran into and it was very difficult to find before all the High Roller re-issues. Fantastic record.
I agree! Love 'em!
Awesome, one of the best videos you did, pal, I LOVE NWOBHM, I enjoy so much Satan, Diamond Head, Praying Mantis,Tysondog,Blitzkrieg.
Thank you, Cheers! :)
@@RuthlessMetalYT Do a New vídeo about It,dude, speak about the bests bands from this genre, sure, except Iron Maiden and Saxon.
Man, gotta say to you: THANK YOU!!! Thnaks to your video I've just discovered three truly GEMS that I've never heard before and they sound FUCKING AWESOME!!! Greetings from Brazil
Thank you! Cheers!
Deep Switch is a weirdly brilliant band. I really love their sound. A big thanks to Shadow Kingdom for a decent re-issue.
Great movement/genre 🤘
Yes, one of the best!
Love your work man. Thanks
Cheers!
I loved this video. Subscribed now
Thank you, Cheers!
I can fully concur on Holocaust, the whole album is a incredible with a surprising variety of styles on it. Still widely available for sale. The rest I’ve never heard of but need to rectify ASAP. Appreciate the great suggestions, another outstanding video from you! 🤘🏻
Thank you Sir, I appreciate the support. :)
Worst band I've ever heard!
@@chrisdowling8094 You must have heard something else. ;)
I suggest you to check out these:
Praying Mantis - Time Tells No Lies (1981)
Ethel the Frog - Ethel the Frog (1980)
Samson - Head On (1980)
Savage - Loose 'n' Lethal (1983)
Tank - This Means War (1983)
All awesome albums! 🤘
Love me some praying mantis.
God, did this take me back.
Thanks, man.
🍻🍻
GREAT VIDEO! Would love to see you do a "Best of NWOBHM" series of videos like you did for Thrash Metal. Keep up the great videos...I love 'em!
🔥🔥
They almost always seem to have been produced for AM radio in cars. A shame. Great music that could blow walls down if the tone was left in the mix. I wonder how much that played into Priest and Maiden making it like they did in contrast.
There's alot to be said for good production.
That's one of the things I like about those obscure albums though. Maybe not too clear or heavy but very atmospheric.
Agreed on WOLF and DARK STAR - two excellent underrated albums. Other than that I'd go with:
PRAYING MANTIS - Time Tells No Lies
SAVAGE - Loose N' Lethal
SHIVA - Firedance
GASKIN - End of the World
TYTAN - Rough Justice
WILDFIRE - Brute Force and Ignorance
PERSIAN RISK - Rise Up
TREDEGAR - Tredegar (same vocalist as Persian Risk)
solid as a rock!
Wow! Deep Switch was a band I loved back in the day, never thought I'd see them on a UA-cam video. They had a great song called "Pigfeeder" that was nuts!
Other great bands I can think of are: Demon; Vardis; Paralex and local band to me: Blitzkrieg.
Great list! Love the intro music as well ;-)
Thanks!
I had never heard of deepswitch. Good stuff .A bit like Witchfinder General but with keyboards and with the theatrical of Witchfynde.
Yeah they were a bit weird.
Witch finder general. Great band hot chicks on the covers
haha I expected "whoa, have you ever heard of Diamond Head and Witchfinder general? They're such hidden gems!" but these are actually pretty obscure.
Yeah Diamond Head and Witchfinder General are not that obscure. hehe
Lightning to the Nation's is my favourite album of all time. They should have been massive.
I thought maybe witch finder general too...nice list! Keep up the stellar work!
Exellent video with great content. Dark Star, Ritual and Elixir.......I will be looking for their material. Thank you
Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT just found out that Ritual did release another álbum back in 1993 called "Valley of the kings". Will be hearing It later on. Thank you for your videos brother and cheers back at ya
💪 Strong set list thx for the heads up🇬🇧🎸🇬🇧
Cheers!
This was great, just like listening to an episode of the Friday Night Rock Show with Thomas The Vance
Cheers! awesome
Captain Amerika is a great track by Dark Star
Excellent list. Actually discovered a few here.
Thanks!
On a side note, I thought you should have kept your best thrash metal albums of year XXXX going. You're entirely knowledgeable enough to make good, well informed lists, that showcase the struggle that all of us thrash metal fans went through during the darker years. Good records were few and far between, but still were around. And I'd also live to hear your take on the ''thrash revival'' since the early 2000's when most bands got their shit together and started putting out quality stuff.
Yeah I might return to it some day, we'll see. :) 🔥🔥
Cheers!
The Nightcomers is definitely in the top five NWOBHM albums.
Yes, love it! 🔥🔥
Holocaust's later stuff is pretty underrated too
Their recent album is very good. Better than any of their previous albums. The vocals always turned me off their old songs, although I thorougly enjoyed their EP only track 'I,m not coming through'.
totally cool cover artwork. so much talent with these bands. very sharp and kickin' azz.😃🤘🕺✌😎
absolutely, Cheers!
Love your channel!
thanks boss
