I'm glad I've grown out of being angry or disappointed about golf. If you can't enjoy golf unless you are scoring well then you're not going to enjoy golf very much. I've learned to enjoy golf no matter what. A few bad swings shoudn't ruin your round or your day. It's a pleasure to be out on the course and get to hit balls off of beautiful grass into interesting greens.
I would argue that "not having your best stuff" is mostly mental. We don't forget how to hit a golf ball from day to day. We may mishit a few and on the wrong day we start to doubt ourselves and pretty soon we're having a really bad day. On a good day we look past a few bad strikes and go on to play well. One well struck shot or one really poorly struck shot can change many people's day. The key is to see it as one mis-hit and go on to play like you know how to play--which you do!
Great stuff. As soon as he mentioned the white bears thing, I thought of my mindfulness training and how they would say to give the white bears your full attention for a short time and notice the distraction, then return to the object of focus, which is usually the breath. Then he straight up said it. I was like, hey, that’s mindfulness!
I don't think it's any surprise that with 125 people holding PGA tour cards and others with assorted exemption status competing every event, why you see the same general group of names at, or near the leaderboard. All of these people have mad skills as far as golf. It's the mental aspect that has these same players in the forefront week in/week out. They BELIEVE in themselves. They don't collapse when things seem to go south. It's a reminder the average golfer could use to help them in their journey. What's the next shot? Focus on it and move forward.
There couldn't be anything more destructive a parent can do for their child than to yell "pay attention! Concentrate." Can you imagine anything more distracting than that?

This is absolute gold.
I agree. Going to have to watch this several times. Goal - Automatic performance. Love that.

Great podcast. Gets past the common sports psychology cliques.
Great video! Thank you!
Do y’all sell merch?
Doubt related to self criticalness (self assessment?) - interesting
