Yeah… That one word I would used to describe Season 5 would be, “Complete!” Season 5 is really something alright… Crazy… like a huge rollercoster… and definitely the strongest love and intense moments. I feel like Season 5 was huge incredible performance and suddenly stop of what Shameless is. You should never look down upon of life lesson in the end alongside it. This literally almost be the finally hurrah the whole legacy and into too bad that it’s turned into shit upon we reached into Series 6…
Ian being wanted by the military and facing charges for going awol could have been an interesting storyline that lasted for a good few episodes kinda like when Finoa got arrested in season 4 but instead he's there for like one whole episode then the whole thing gets resolved off screen In the end it was just a plot device so he could later run away with Monica But there was so much potential there
I mean the military can't do anything because he was underage, his recruitment was under fraudulent means and he was seriously mentally ill. "Article 51 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) allows the defense of a lack of mental responsibility due to a severe mental disease or defect at the time of the offense. Under this provision, the defendant is not held criminally liable if they did not have substantial capacity to understand the nature or wrongfulness of their actions at the time of the alleged offense." That's what happened in Ian's case. That is what the hearing is for! The military were under the impression that they were releasing Ian to the care of a capable adult, Monica. Except she wasn't! I don't think it's a plot device. Him being institutionalized and running off with Monica was a natural progression of that storyline. The problem is, Ian's story is just one of many and the show has to balance all these storylines with just 50+ minutes an episode.
Poor Ian. Great actor 😭
(He just looks so terribly sad listening to them. And upset.)
I feel bad for him, he’s forced to listen as they describe his actions. like an animal
