My friend this is what I was looking for. Thank you!
No problem!
I like watching your videos you explain thing's in a way a complete numpty like myself can understand. Stay safe
Thanks 👍
I find the springs are handy if you want to pull a slight adjustment on a pipe already in situ. Nice video Al and don't hurt your knees - remember you are no SPRING chicken 😉
Right on. Ha ha.
Nice to see a bit of old school👍
Thanks.
Nice to see Sting is keeping busy while he's not on stage.
Sprung into action.
Sorry didn't mean to upset you yesterday al. I do watch all your videos and have helped me out with lots of stuff. No hard feelings 👍
No worries Gary. Just struggling with new videos now as I seem to have covered just about everything.
I didn't know about pipe springs. Now I want one
Fun things.
thanks al for this video I was waiting for it not many video on UA-cam showed you can do a offset with spring enjoyed the video.
Glad it helped. Keep well mate.
As usual very helpful .
Fab
Thanks a ton
Nice one Al I anneal the copper first i find that helps.
Good tip!
nice vid uncle...
You have lot of tricks up your sleeve....
ha ha thanks.
Top lad on you tube. Age and Experience maters!!!
Thanks.
Years ago, if we hadn't pipe spring's, we used to fill then with SAND, tightly packed works fine.
Yes that works. Thanks Brian.
Cheers Al, good demonstration. Springs are handy, but cheapo bending machines are available on eBay for under 30 quid.
As a Plumber, like you I carry a 15mm spring in my tool bag. But mostly use a bending machine👍👍
Hope you’re doing OK fella & staying away from the Kung Flu?
Thanks we are both fine, you keep well too.
Any videos on those flexible copper pipes you can get ?
No sorry.
Thankfully
Ha ha yes.
I understand al.
No problem.
If your really stuck you can use kiln dried sand
Yeh, I would really have to be stuck. Ha ha.
@@dereton33 it does work though I sometimes use it on steel pipe red hot
Al, I hope the misses was standing by with the `Deep Heat` 😊
You could say I kneeded it. Ha ha.
Can you explain how back boilers (the ones that use to heat up water from the fireplace)used to work in properties in the 60’s
I’v removed the gas fireplace at my flat and found another old fireplace behind it under the chimney breast, it has a iron metal box and two 5cm approx pipes going out of it. Im guessing the logs or coal burnt in fire place would heat up the box which had water running through it then the hot water would come out the taps?
A back boiler fits in the recess behind a fireplace or gas fire. It uses the heat generated to produce hot water for central heating and domestic use throughout the home. The boiler itself is hidden behind the fireplace but needs a separate water tank and hot water cylinder to be stored somewhere else in the home.
BB's are open flue which means they can be extremely dangerous. Especially if they aren't serviced annually. Always make sure you use a Gas Safe registered competent engineer. I've seen some lethal appliances whilst I've worked in this industry. Please aso ensure the room ventilation is never taped or blocked off.
Carbon monoxide has no smell and can silently kill. I'd always recommend carbon monoxide alarms for open flued and flueless appliances.
I moved into the property in 1990 and just realised it was hiding behind there. My gas fireplace was disconnected in 2005 and just boarded up. So im just clearing up the chimney breast to seal up and plaster. But that back boiler has got me fascinated in how homes were heated back then, my mind is blown right now.
Basic systems that worked, no electronics needed.
@@dereton33 maybe you could do a timeline video of how homes used to be heated and hot water heated from 100 years ago to modern day today i know i would love to watch something like that.
Nice one al 👍 can I ask if you do get ripples on the copper pipe is it a bad thing or just cosmetic. Baisically how bad is it if you used a ripple effect pipe 😂
Its not that bad. Also still ok to use.
@@dereton33 cheers al 👍
A couple of push fit connections for closing either end. Pipe needs to be filled with water or sand. Then slowly blend it over your knee. With practice a pipe bender is by far the best. 👍
Thanks for the tips!
Not really. Try pulling a bend 1800 long to feed a curved rad surface mounted.
Spring or water/sand filled you do it. With a pipe bender you wouldnt
I was half expecting a little 'peep' to come out as u strained to bend the short section of pipe....or did u edit it out?
No I held on.
Hi Derek, just bought a bungalow and noticed the drive is always wet and I've noticed a puddle against the bungalow the drive is covered with slate chippings. Any idea what it could be?
Cheers Paul.
Underground water main leaking.
@@dereton33 is that down to me to pay for repair or the water board ?
Not as strong as you used to be Al. 8 years ago you managed to bend it no problem but no worries it happens to us all😂
Too true, ha ha.
Putting a shower in and limited to top water feed pipe on right side only and trying to figure what model as this pipe is about 5-6 inch showing with an Isolation Valve on the end to stop leak then rest under tiles with the flex and it is about 5 inch from the wall. I think I need to extend the pipe then bend at bottom to the left so it can connect to the shower. Could I use that method or an elbow? Do I saw the pipe to size or can I get specific lenths?
Easier to use an elbow, you will have to saw the pipe.
@@dereton33 Thanks mate !
Hi, does anyone know how to bend flat copper pipes?
I understand I'd have to stuff the flat copper pipes with, like, fine sand so that kinks won't form when bending. But is there a specific tool to bend flat copper pipes with?
Not that I know of.
Good stuff!
Thanks!
How did the spring come out of the 90 bend?
Just pull the bend back slightly.
@@dereton33 how forgiving is copper to multiple bends before it will crack?
My problem is my pipe on my raditor is after coming away from the wall after I had plaster job when I went to hang the rad back on the wall I can't can I straighten the pipe without breaking it its coming up from a concrete floor any taught anyone
Remove the rad and get the brackets refixed to the wall
This is great but didn't you do similar video 8 yrs ago ?
Yes but it needed updating. People tend to think old videos are not worth watching.
Anneal the tube first and it will be much easier to pull and less likely to ripple.
That is hassle though.
I had no idea Sting was into DIY.
You learn something new everyday.
Al why don,t you do a video about your scooter.
I have done one, but I guess I could update it.
Tried pulling my first 90 in a 22mm at college fooked it up 3 times 😂😂 need arms like popeye 💪💪💪 £15 for a 3m length 😞😞😞
Youch!!!
I'm sure Tommy Cooper did a similar trick....pipe, bottle, spring, pipe...that didn't work out too well either!
He probly did. Ha ha.
Buy a speedfit elbow and be done with it ;P
Flow restrictor.
Used to love watching you, what's up your doing poor stuff now. Are you unwell.
Poor stuff !!!! Thanks a lot.
Tbf Al's covered quite alot in his years on UA-cam. Sometimes things he's covered in the past. Will get kind of get revisited.
Nice work fella, hope you and Jan are doing well. 👍
Well , you used to do exciting stuff. People can relate too. Bending some copper pipe. Come on all yr both better than that. Haway jan sort him out. Mo doing stuff would be better
O well, thought it would be helpful.
