RT Shorts - What Do You Know About Science?
/ roosterteeth
Gavin: if you snip. You go mental.
Burnie: wha- k.
"What did the T-Rex evolve into?"
"I think it just died"
"Just died..."
"There's no bird that big....... Ostrich, maybe."
nice pic
+killteabagrepeat why thank you.
nice pic
GAVIN JUST MADE A THEORY!OH MY GOD!OH MY GOD!
Sorry completely off topic, but I love your picture, Jakuzure for Kill la Kill
I kinda really love the fact that Burnie isn't wearing any shoes in this one lol
+Ice phoenix Found!
Triggered
Came here to say this after my like 5th time viewing this lol
Wow, I just noticed that!
"In our ongoing attempt to find the brightest Rooster Teeth employee, we are here with the Grifball plushie"
"Oh, and Gavin's here too."
Should have a new one, quizzing Jeremy on movies.
OMGSH YES PLEASE
Or James, from Funhaus.
His face of realization that there werent two skulls just made my whole week
Steven hawking did not discover space... He invented it
+Isaiah Fitts That's Einstein who invented space. Did you not listen in science class?
+pickk90 No. That was Nicolas Cage
Nooooo it's Patrick
+Isaiah Fitts **Just ask Albert Einstein.. he invented space**
+Isaiah Fitts Steven hawking made theories ABOUT space not inventing space
Gavin Free + Science Questions = My Entertainment
It's funny because he was basically 90% correct for the answers he gave its just he didn't sound right because he's bad with words.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
I've never seen anyone come to gavins level of "I'm smart but continuously sound stupid"
A.K.A. "how do words good?"
Are we sure he isnt an engineer?
+renardo3333 Pubert Addams
Gav is actually really smart, but he's just really bad at explaining things.
Then explain how Socrates found out the world was round lol
Part of it's a joke, he's not that ignorant.
Whit Lill Yeah, the brontosaurus fact was actually true, well-ish...
His explanation is just.......
Ethan Hamilton the Brontosaurus never existed back in like 130 years ago two so called "scientists" were hella greedy and wanted to just ended up putting random dinosaur parts together and one of the scientists " Othanial Charles Marsh" was reconstructing a Apatosaurus but used the head of a Camarasaurus to complete it and two years later excavators sent him the real head of the Apatosaurus which he instead of realizing was the head of a Apatosaurus called it a Brontosaurus and just ran with it.
Whit Lill Gavin knows a little about everything. To bad that is all he knows.
I love that everyone thinks he's terrible at explaining, but in reality it's a video that's meant to be funny and he isn't meant to answer entirely correctly even when he knows the answer.
I love how Burnie is just letting him explain himself. His reactions to Gavin are perfect
it's amazing what editing can do these days
laughed so hard during this, i wish they'd make more of these:(
Gavin talking about how you have to "think of using the opposite hand" may be the funniest thing I've heard in my life.
After hearing that explanation, that concept actually disturbed me, having to literally trick your brain, like it were someone else you were fooling into picking up stuff for you.
Kevin Switzer
Don't worry; it's total BS. There is a connection between the cerebral hemispheres, but it isn't true that "if you snip it, you go mental".
Yea he was close though, its called the corpus collosum and if you get it surgically removed you function a lot differently. The surgery is used to treat seizures or something
I just began dissecting sheep brains during an anatomy course's study of the brain, and so certain parts I could tell he was off, but some parts I wasn't entirely certain on. Had he been right, his idea of having to try to pick up something with the left half if you really need something with the right half, both somewhat confused me, and psyched me out, just on the concept alone.
Grant OCallaghan
It functions in distributing signals between the hemispheres to improve coordination of the brain's activity. Cutting it reduces the firing of nerves across the hemispheres, which dampens seizures. However, the path from your brain to your limbs doesn't depend on it; the motor neurons go straight from the motor centers to the brain stem.
He explains his answers so badly but if you think about he's right
+Frost Archer He was right about magnets.
+Frost Archer I don't understand how magnets wrong either, can you explain?
Frost Archer haha you misunderstood my point - my point is that he was right (as we can agree) on a very simple and ambiguous level - but the fact is he can use such ambiguous language and still express the principle in roughly the right and more importantly entertaining way is ingenious. We all know he would of course know how magnets work.
Frost Archer I don't understand how people can't pick up on their own spelling errors even after someone teases them about it. Can you explain?
Frost Archer :)
Every time I watch the video, I just die at Burnie's reaction right off the bat. Before he had even asked any questions. "How long.... One dinosaur was lying?"
These are amazing, they need to do more of these.
Gavin was more right than wrong about the dinosaur questions
Man this video , I'm high as fuck
i know right. his answers are a cacophony of half-baked science spewed through the guise of a cheeky british man.
Right dude? it's fucking hilarious.
Everything in this comment section was unnecessarily mean. And he answered most all of the these right. Like me though he had trouble explaining his answers
Do you actually smoke or was that just a reference
WSFGMarcANDBlake 😂😂
I would think that Gavin is high, but then I remembered the headlight fluid.
That is the exact face I make when I am lying to my teacher that I did the work and she tells me to explain my answer and how I got it. 0:57 - 0:59
reading rainbow but with gavin that would be amazing
Gavin knows some things, he just gets mixed up and can't express himself very well...
EXACTLY. And he knows ALOT of things.
Davis Eriks Naglis Not necessarily. It could just be a sign of poor social skills. I find it hard to put my thoughts to words sometimes.
musicisum0405 Exactly.
I agree, most of what he said was correct. It's just that he's not very good at putting his thoughts into words.
well he does it on purpose because it's funny
These hold up so well
He's actually right about a lot of this...
You're right, north does want to point north
Yep. Socrates known for his round world theory, Hawking discovered space, there's no such thing as the eastern hemisphere, the cerebellum connects the brain hemispheres, magnets are either push or pull, and people with a snipped brain can't grab things.
Metrion77 well have you ever seen someone with a snipped brain pick something up; he might be on to something there
***** yes. The corpus collosum, which is what he's thinking of, has been snipped in people, and the people had no issues with picking things up.
Metrion77 I stand corrected
i love how people are calling Gavin an idiot, well he is, but in this video he is right about most of everything he says, but hes just terrible at explaining
It's just the way he says things. The accent doesn't help either.
gavino free is not an idiot sir
well i dont know for sure about his intelleigence but he did say steghen hawking discovered space
EvanPlaysPc They're just joking mostly in these videos :p
he would have to be fr that answer XD
Surprisingly, Gavin wasn't all that stupid in this. He did get some things right. But I think for comedy purposes most of these things are made up.
7 years old and still one of the greatest shorts made!!!!
This show needs more joel.
Joel vs politics/goverment/economics
r/agedlikemilk
You can tell that Gavin understands and knows the answers.
He's right about the whole Brontosaurus thing, actually. It's not actually a real species. Archaeologists figured it out in the 90's, but it was such a popular hoax that no one really noticed.
I dont think it was a hoax I thought they just put the wrong head on the body
***** Apatosaurus
paleontologist
Gavin is definitely channelling David Brent/Gareth from the Office. that "ostrich, maybe" comment lmaooo
I feel like Gavin knows what he's talking about sometimes, he's just really really terrible at communicating his thoughts.
Mmhmm mhmm, great! Now i'm ready for my class presentation!
You heard it here first: Stephen Hawking discovered space.
Bring this back
DEAR LORD BURNIE YOURE THE AT&T COMMERCIAL GUY XD
gavin looks like a grown up dewy from malcom in the middle
Jonas Salk made the cure for polio, in case you were wondering.
What gavin said about the west and east actually was correct, technically. Lemme explain. There is technically no e ast or west, just left or right, or foreward or backward, depending on where your are facing. Because the most eastern place or the most western place on earth is infinity, because you will eventually be back at the place you started at. The end, thank younvery much. Cookiesmfor every one!
***** How? there technically is no east or west or north or south. just directions to Infinity........... And beyond (not really)
***** Haha.
Okay.
oh my God no one cares it just simpler to say its to the east or the west not that oh actually Theirs a infinite amount of possibilities of directions, and if you want to seem smart learn how to spell!
+Adas Tenkie its east west north and south this is primary school stuff just shut up
And...?
The thing in the brain is called the Corpus Collosum
Hey, someone who actually knows what they're talking about, kudos.
Yup! And thank Ben Carson for bringing back the "snip" thing to reduce the risk of seizures for a lot of people.
Gavin was also actually talking about blindsight - where people can't see, but can pick up things and navigate rooms with objects in without realising it. Blindsight isn't related to the cutting of the Corpus Callosum though. For a layman's grasp on neuroscience and psychology it wasn't bad.
It's the corpus callosum that connects the hemispheres
Sounds like Gav just sat back and smoked a ton of mushrooms
What a transition at the beginning of the video!
Marvelous!
Gavin did really well in this actually.
I know its not real, but if it was, I would just be so boggled at how confused he sounded at some points.
It is real.
Magnets are actually quite difficult to understand. The push-pull relationship between North and South is relatively easy to get a grasp of but you actually require an understanding of special relativity to understand what actually causes the force.
not really dude, its only take a hour and the internet to learn how a magnet works
I guess, but unlike most facts that you can just be given a one sentence answer this one has a slightly more complicated answer,
I'm glad he did so well. As soon as this came on, I thought, "Oh, I love science, this ought to be hilarious...", and then I saw Gavin and knew he would get a lot right.
Gavin actually had a good general idea of the early stuff just not enough to really explain it.
I find that Gavin actually does know a lot of things but his knowledge is absolutely overshadowed by him being the most inarticulate person on the planet! He always starts off well but somewhere along the lines, he veers off into idiocy haha! I am aware this was a skit though..
he is the same way in the Let's Plays though, that's why we love him
when you snip it you go mental...-Gavin free
I love how Bernie has no shoes on.
How the fuck haven't i seen this yet?
Jonas Salk: Inventor of the Polio Vaccine
Socrates: Pioneer of philosophy with what we call "The socratic method"
Steven Hawking: Most famous physicist confined to a wheelchair
Who's the second most famous physicist confined to a wheelchair?
Loogiemonstar I mean, there's gotta be another. I didn't just wanna say "The most famous physicist"
DBZHGWgamer MMM FEYNMAN.
DBZHGWgamer Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan, Neil Degrasse Tyson...
DBZHGWgamer MMM TYSON IS ALIVE.
How can freakin Burnie hold a god damn straight face with this video? :P
he explained in a podcast they had to cut all the time because he would go into laughing fits
This is one of my favorite videos of yours.
It's actually sort of annoying how Burnie is reacting to all of this. Most of the information that Gavin gave is 100% correct. The east and west poles being created if we changed the rotation of the earth is accurate, he even showed with his hands correct directions for it. I'm not sure about the fake dinosaur, but I know that ones have been found in the past that are really two dinosaurs (idk about the specific one he was talking about though). And that bit about the brain is correct too, if you cut the hemispheres apart, your right eye can only send info to your right hand, and vice versa
you shouldve asked brandon the magnet question
Interestingly enough, the chicken still has the gene for growing teeth from its dinosaur ancestors.
WhoStoleMyName57683 fairly sure that all birds have the gene for teeth it's just not active. Still interesting though.
YES! This is my favorite series. Glad they made another.
So if I were to put these answers on a test I would get a 100%. Though not in school anymore....
I am so I will use these answers on my finals
is it strange that everything he said made sense to me?
Trying to figure out whether the people who upvoted this comment were agreeing with the fact that understanding everything Gavin said was strange, or that these people upvoted because they also understood all of what Gavin said. e_e I'm overthinking this, I think.
Lilly R holy shit. our pictures are the same, only mines better because I fucked with it in photoshop
WHY ISNT BURNIE WEARING SHOES ?
this needs to be a weekly series of asking gavin science questions
T-Rex=Ostrich...yes! duh!
Y'all realize this is a SHORT, right? Meaning it was written and scripted? Of course Gavin isn't that dumb. He was acting.
No, he's like this on the podcast
Breizh Butler That Could Be Discussed
Hey almost everything he said was right. So he isn't dumb even if this wasn't scripted
+Breizh Butler Actually the interviews like this aren't scripted, they just cut out all the bits where Gavin actually knows what he's talking about.
+EatGameSleep No... Go back and watch the other one, America Vs England, and try telling me that wasn't set-up. They might be done as improv as opposed to scripted but they are *definitely* in character.
Gavin is actually pretty smart, but I think he has problems with getting his words out. He talks fast and his thoughts run faster, and he tries to keep up, thus the jumbled up words.
Castiel Novak Im fairly sure they do these videos with zero prep so they just grab someone suddenly onto the set then start really quickly so the person isnt ready
I like how happy with himself Gavin looks at the end
It almost seems that Gavin knows what he's talking about but he can't speak his mind due to the inability to come up with coherrent english sentenses. I can relate to this, man does my spelling suck.
im confused is this scripted cuz it sounds like gavins actual explanations
It is but it isn't. None of the answers are scripted, however they only put in the funny answers. It wouldn't be entertaining if he got them all right.
Looking back now, do you know the answer?
If u actually watch him on slow-mo guys he isn't that dumb
ikr
Burnie does really well to keep a straight face through these tbh ^^
Whats awesome is that when Burnie said he got a hundred, he ACTUALLY felt proud and started smiling.
the face he makes when he goes "I love science"
it was adorable xD
I don't recall saying I understand science or theory, but im glad I have Gavin to come up with theories like "what if my legs didnt know they were legs"
Burnie's passive sarcasm is too hilarious xD
0:26 when Gavin says I love science look at his smile! Haha
"they're connected by something that if you snip you go mental" lol the way he says it..
Gavin "theres something that if you snip you go mental" LMAO!!
I'm proud of him, honestly. He came VERY CLOSE to being correct on most of that stuff. Honestly was not expecting him to even know what a brontosaurus WAS, let alone know the whole thing about it not being real.
They need to do more of these, good old days
In your attempt to find the brightest person at roosterteeth; you decided to sit down with gavin. Let that sink in...
Why do they not make more of these? They're amazing.
That thumbnail made me laugh for WAY to long.
You can just hear Gavin going "What the bloody bollocks did I get myself into?" at 2:33
me at first: wow, he knows brontosarus isnt a dinosaur, hes smarter than i thought, me after gavin keeps talking: never mind
im so glad this is back
I have to say, that went pretty much exactly as well as I expected.
Diggin Burnie's socks...
idk how burnie makes it through these without laughing 😂😂😂😂
I need someone to interview Burnie in this style.
It's so hilariously easy to make a person look stupid this way, and the tables must turn.
Some of what he says is about half right, which is honestly better than what I expected.
"North wants to point north" I lost it
Please tell us we are going to get the unedited version of this, because I'd love to see Burnie's reaction to those responses xD lmaooo.
When Gavin says I love science his face is just strange but funny
That's exactly it! That's how you describe Gavin! Thank you for putting it to words.
Am I the only one who heard Gavin's stomach rumble at 1:58? He needs to eat more!
I NEED TO SEE THIS UNEDITED!!! :D
I just love how Burnie looks so serious until you see his socks. :D
Just wanted to say I edited this and Burnie never broke once. Dude's a pro
