But at the same time I don't want to go into DTD withdrawal! (even if it's probably for the best he gets himself another track, I have always thought the Dust Bowl map was pretty good candidate, it was pretty brutal however, which may have been why it wasn't chosen.) Edit: A small note on any cars after the oil pan update could suffice.
Makes sense having a new course of DTD especially with this oil pan damage addition. Creates a level playing field as some of the older attempts may not last as far now with the new damage updates
I swear, if you watch these episodes as though you're a bank robber hoping you don't go to jail and Alex is your overly chatty getaway driver, they are eye wateringly funny... Great content regardless but this way just cracks me up. :D
most likely why alex decided to end this track as the leaderboard isn't accurate anymore. there's been two or three major beam updates which changed the way things worked so i'm kinda surprised it's taken this long
Fun fact:the new update has it where, every hit= more damage to the oil pan (and radiator I think) you can see the engine light flashing orange whenever he hits a landing!
@@jwalster9412 this is true that components like the oil pan and radiator can get more leaky over time but I'm fairly certain that the flashes after he goes over jumps are the warnings that the oil pickup is dry because all the oil left the bottom of the sump when the car was midair, I've had this happen to me off jumps
So, if the next episode is the last on this course, can we take it that there’s a new course lined up? Or do you have something else in mind for beam since this is a super popular series.
Tbh I think there needs to be a new course anyway since all the updates to the game since the start of this season has left the older vehicles at a significant advantage so its probably just for the best to hit the reset button and start with a new season on a new course
Next DTD is the final? Hoo boy, hopefully FailRace can try out the vehicles he's missing out on before closing it down, such as: -Cherrier Rally (the FCV/Gravel version) -Pigeon 4x4 (the official version, not the mod version) -Crawler Hopper (surprised he hasn't given it a try yet) -Fink Appliances Ten Thousand (or FATT, essentially the KITT version of the Wendover) -LeGran Rally If you're gonna make the final episode, FailRace, at LEAST pick one of the worthy vehicles for the Proving Grounds that you haven't tried them out yet.
Some cars I think would be cool: - Off-Road Sunburst - T-Series with dry van trailer or tanker trailer - Old Cannon - D-35 Beast - Default Blue D-Series
Oilpan, induction, engine damage changes things a lot without every new car now having a skidplate, fresh start of every car, or use skidplates from now on.
I've been feeling the need for a new course for quite some time and now with the oil pan damage I see it being quite difficult for any vehicle to contend for a top spot on the leaderboard now so keen to see what comes next for this series. 🥰
The Subaru tearing the rear suspension trailing arm clean out of the floor pan was pretty spectacular. People who have run cheap and rusty cars will be familiar with the fear of that happening at an inconvenient moment...
Hey, could you at the end of the last episode show the entire leaderboard, or make a download of it? I'd love to try and get through all the vehicles again and see how they end up, or try to compile something like "last 30 seconds of each car" if you have no problem with such thing done
Demolition derby/Banger racing cars are made to crash into eachother not to do jumps so the oil pan hitting the floor is not normally something they would worry about.
4:50 the reason that you keep getting the warning is because you're jumping. IRL jumping a car can cause oil starvation due to the oil being lifted away from the pump.
from what i saw when playing new beam update, the warning just keeps reappearing, unrelated to what happens to driven vehicle. Maybe that's the dev's way to introduce the entire oilpan damage element, which would be weird choice imo
The oil starvation can happen for a while and then get back to normal, like previously you could flip the car multiple times and it would occur each time. Oil is simulated like a liquid now so it can go up and down, as well as leak.
How come the throttle is always either wide open or not open at all? Seems like better throttle control would help with keeping things under control...
Alex not sure if you know this but the distance indicator is based on the wheel speed (just like the speedometer) so you can get very inaccurate results when you have loads of wheelspin like you did with the Subaru. Maybe you could get a mod to get a more accurate measurement, or just base it on the laps?
Man! I just installed BeamNG again, and got the DTD track. I simply cannot get any car around even 1 lap. Lol. Admittedly I'm drivng with the keyboard, but bloody hell! It's tough!
I don't think so. I remember one went around bajarama and just ran out of fuel naturally after a bit (no damage, just went through all the fuel in the tank) I would think that a similar thing would happen around this course, especially as the monster truck can go around with 3 or even 2 wheels if my memory serves. Still wouldn't mind seeing one go around this dtd circuit tho!
@@samuelculy655 Yeah, I remember that one, which is what made me think of it. I have a dumb love for monster trucks, and it probably would have an asterisk next to it, since I doubt it could do the spinners....but still!
IRL, that Subaru is a 3.3L flat 6, AWD and the only gearbox was the 4 speed auto. Yeah the handling model for that one looks really weird. Ironically, there was a 4 wheel steering option on the JDM versions.
What's more surprising? That there's a Driven Till Destruction on a Friday night? That the Legran Derby car has the structural properties of a sieve, despite the appropriate FailRace colours? That the SVX went on its run thinking that it was an Impreza WRC most of the time, right up to the moment when it met Shallow Grave for the third time? Or that the Barstow Daytona wannabe had no surprise in losing its wang? You decide...
I think all of the results will be flawed with the new damage system. The oil pan is extremely easy to damage, can do it literally doing 10 mph over some rocks in an off-road vehicle, and even easier when jumping.
I put all of the cars that have run into a spreadsheet and I will update this as new DTD episodes are uploaded: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hZGlKz7N4szMKLv-TqTpKAxVjiSdfr8f2Xf9ZWtg474/edit#gid=0
There's something very weird with the textures since the update. The game visually looked much better before. Has the update switched off a bunch of graphical options Alex?
It looks weird because of the new lighting system, so i think that this map might have some weird form of lighting that doesn't interact well with the new light stuff.
Dude how is it worse, it's way better imo, metal finally looks metallic, tires finally look like rubber, etc. Maybe you are too much used to the old graphics to see the improvement.
@@snowcow1173 Yeah, I'll sometimes grab a car and drive it around the track after the videos and see if I make it further or not, But the oil pan has gone on just about every car I've driven around the DTD track after the first jump since the update lol
I think you should try a new map as this one is kind of boring and does not represent real driving scenarios and most of the damage is done by the falls which isn't realistic. A map with mountain trail, skinny bridges, sharp turns with valley on other side and river crossings will be much more interesting.

I think with all the recent Beam updates to the damage model, this series deservers a reboot on a fresh track.
i suspect we might get an automation challenge first - that's how it was with Bajarama -> Autocross Challenge and Endurodrome -> Rally Challenge
