4 is still one of my favorites. I especially liked how each character or (group of them) has their own shorter story before meeting the hero. It makes it that much more impactful when you eventually meet them as the hero, since you’re already deeply familiar with them.
First time i played it, I didn't know that the chapter heroes would ever meet up. Imagine my excitement playing as the hero and finding that out. I think people should recommend the game to friends not telling them, to save the surprise.
I respect your opinion, but seven is one of my favorite. That being said, I like that the ranking was honest to what you thought. I feel like a lot of people make up their mind a lot of the time base on public opinion.
Despite my first game bias for it, DQ9 was a ton of fun. Yes it lacked party members with personality/character, but being able to create your own allowed for so much creativity and headcanon. Or collaborative story-telling with friends. And the job system was really good in that game, eventually allowing you to just swap jobs on the fly. Story was okay, but interesting enough to keep me playing. Would definitely love to see a remaster of it some day, but I doubt we’ll get that.
This so much. I can understand why someone would dislike the party system and story at first. But the party system actually provides a really fun means of playing pretend, and the story can be viewed more so as a collection of cute fairy tales. Even if the story is disjointed and a little weak, I think the actual dialogue is still really good and soulful.
Thats exactly what I like the most, the flexibility of customization. Creating our own character, party member, armor & weapon sprite also change when you equip it, kinda gives freedom to my own imagination, perfect for someone who like RPG-ing an open world game
DQ9 was my first, and probably my favourite game of all time (played entirely singleplayer). Definitely biased because it was one of the first games I ever owned, but the fact I’ve replayed it fully at least 4 times means it’s probably a probably pretty great game despite that bias
The music in 2 is incredible. Too bad you’ll be listening to that awful battle track 90% of the game due to how insane the encounter rate is and how much you need to grind. 7 is amazing but can be convoluted and is looooong. Love the story and characters. And all those side quests! If you love side quests, 7 is your game
@@That1PlaceBehindTheBushI honestly didn’t need much grinding at all (due to how fucked up the encounter rate is), which is good. The main problem for me is where we are supposed to go after we unlocked the boat. Getting the flute is absolutely disgusting, and other important items are just somewhere with almost no clue at all. Definitely the most frustrating dragon quest for this.
Dragon Warrior 2 is a classic. It's so moody, and the soundtrack is beautiful. Side note: funny enough, the first game I ever remember playing was DQ8 with my dad. That one I'm especially fond of.
Honestly I find it strange for one to love so much DQ3 but hate DQ7. Given how similar DQ7 is to 3 with the character class customization and the overall storytelling vibe of solving various crisis for various countries while the mainstory and main characters take a backseat. With tons of philosophical open to interprtation moments that are some of my favorites in the series. As much as I love DQ8 I feel like it was following the final fantasy trend of ff7-ff10 of following a vary linear story with static defined characters in their own personal journeys. Nothing wrong with that format but that's not the reason I love the DQ series. Most DQ games try to experiment with the ways one can tell a story in an rpg. Maybe you age while you play, maybe you can travel to the dream world and meet people as they see themselves in their dreams, maybe you play various different simultaneous stories of different characters that slowly come together, etc, etc. And DQ8 in that regard kind of follows the safest established approach.
