This is one of those sets you wish they could have saved and sold it to Universal Studios or another movie studio. It's just too beautiful and massive to just destroy once filming wrapped.
Gangs of New York or Frida should have won the Oscar for Best Art Direction. Chicago ended up winning the award. Once you see the comparisons, Chicago doesn't hold a candle these sets. Gangs of New York were my favorites, but I probably would have given the award to this film.
Its funny. Martin almost seems rude here talking over the other man. Until you remember he's from and lives New York. Then you understand why and it becomes something to watch their interaction itself. Like you can see where they're both from.
My 2 cents Directors 1 Coppola 2 Speilberg 3Scorcese 4Cameron 5 P.T. Anderson Actors 1 Deniro 2 Hanks 3 Pacino 4 D D Lewis 5 Dicapprio 6 Eastwood / Streep / Nicholson 3 way tie. just my opinion.
Thank you Mr. Sargent.

it was sold to the saudi royal family.
@@billyjesus5442… of New York?
They did a good job of making it look terrible, a terrible, ghetto place to be
Gangs of new york is a trip back in time
This is Dante Ferretti, the scenographer.. the man who created all what you see here, and this is in Rome, Cinecittà.
Ferretti;s title is Production Designer. There is no such title as "scenographer." ;-)
@@mylesgarcia4625 thank you for the correction! That was because in Italian is "scenografo"..

they should turn this into a Gangs of New York Theme park
"Free beer with every ear!"
The sets were already mostly rotten and crumbled a couple years later. Today there is nothing left.
He hates theme parks but you wouldn't know this 4 years back.
Mass brawls every night
@@lilspliffster88 As bad as Waffle House
Leone made "Spaghetti Westerns" while Scorsese's Gangs of New York might be considered a "Spaghetti Eastern"
