It’s cool to see you do one of these on the channel. They’re the bread and butter saw of the majority of arborists here in Singapore and the most common saw I port, but I’ve never seen them dyno’d before. Just finished one for an arborist friend of mine and he’s well pleased with it - so nice when people get all excited over a port job done for them. I hope whoever you’re doing this one for loves it 👍🏻 I did a BBPU 372XP for myself as a play saw pushing the numbers and it’s mad as a kettle of fish - 18 thou squish (impractical I know but hilarious), 96 exhaust and 160 intake with 25 deg of blowdown, wears a 20 inch ES Light and an obnoxious pipe - so much fun to run but getting a shoulder like Quasimodo from starting it cold. Really enjoying your videos 👍🏻 So glad you’re back. Al
I only consider 18 thou tight as below that on builds I’ve had issues with pre-detonation and had to mess about a bit (with higher octane fuels, etc). I haven’t come across a 7900 with tighter squish that 22 thou yet but I can absolutely believe it as the Dolmars I’ve ported have been all over the place, even on exactly the same model of saw from the same production year when I’ve ported a batch. I’ve not gone down the race saw rabbit hole yet but I wouldn’t be surprised to see much tighter squish’s in that area. For work saws here I tend to stay up around 24-26 thou as folk here tend to use fairly cheap and dirty oils and often don’t bother warming their saws up, leading to some almost comical amounts of carbon build up in the cylinder and piston crown. I worked on a two year old saw a while back (can’t remember if it was a 372xp or an MS261) and there was so much carbon build up in the exhaust you couldn’t fit a pencil through it into the cylinder from the muffler side - crazy! 🤯 Suffice to say it ran a heap better once I’d removed it all 😂
I’m not sure if that was addressed to me, Brett or Joe, but I just run 98 octane ethanol free pump petrol and it runs fine for feisty work saws (being able to use pump fuel is in part a governing factor on how I choose to port/modify a saw).
@@latinodeathjazz just use a 268 piston in a 372 with everything else stock in the cylinder, just a muffler mod and let me know how you like that. You will need to use a base gasket and cut a .040 pop-up that will fit into the chamber, leave the squish band stock also. I think you'll like how simple it is and how much extra power it gives you. It's also nice because you can replace the 268 piston with a stock 372 piston anytime you'd like as you did no custom machining on the cylinder. Have a great week.

Appreciate it. I don't really mess with the carbs on the worksaw builds. Unless they are really struggling to fuel. 97% of the carbs are adequate for "worksaw" type mods.
@@dynojoemods2764 Thanks! that's what I needed to know. Which filter setup would give more airflow on a performance build like this, the low top or high top?
hey, Question, is it better to put a BB setup in these 372xp for more performance STOCK, and 2nd situation if ported ? thanks ! your porting job looks mint !
Hey Joe could you please do a vid on Xtorque mods, about where to set them. I recently acquired an xtorque and have repaired a hand full of strato type saws. love the channel and love my degree wheel double thank you
I really like the amount of work you put into your craft. Im curious if a saw indeed to run a Alaskan mill would be built differently? I am a Michigan carpenter tired of lumber prices and our wood is beautiful.
Those type of numbers will work well. Even without the extra compression. Depending on the port time you stsrt with a gasket delete alone may not get thr exhaust low enough.
Hey Dyno- I arrived here from recommendations from Buckin, Tinman, and others... quick question for you, my fuel tank on 372 clone (neo-tec) seems to be no good. where is the vent for the fuel & oil reservoirs, are they close to the carb? I see two little tall skinny nipples poking up from the deck there.
Do you think the generator 372 make less HP ? Or it négligeable? Beautiful saw, really nice sounding to. My stock 372xpg oe sound like crap compared to that. Keep up the good work, it’s awesome
I Know that Personal Preference plays a Major part, But if you Were going to pick up a New saw for Work, Would you go Echo 7310, or Husky 371xp ( Non X Torque ) ???
Hmmm Granted I'm not expert. But every 372 I've had ported or ported myself those lower transfer dividers can be a knife edge Any reason why you didn't touch the lowers at all.?? I'm curious Sooo much material can be remkved
I'm not a fan of knife edging ports. I feel they flow a bit better over a raidus/bull nose. A knife edge dosent create a boundary layer the same as the rounded, can actually make the mix stick to the walls vs flowing. Depending on the goal for the saw and type of porting they may need all the lowers opened way to the max and bulk flow as much as possible. For a standard worksaw type build I don't think it is needed on every saw.
I'm going to bring my 572xp to you when you get some free time. I'm up in GR so I can drive it down. 👍 Notice you are big into Dominator for pre-mix. I use Saber in my 2 stroke equipment.... The torque gain is impressive! Have you ever compared HP etc... on a saw with vs. without the decomp button?
To lower the cylinder, increase compression and get port time closer to where I want it. And I cut the chamber first that way no clamp marks are left over after cutting the base.
You said timing is 102 exhaust, 122 transfer og 78 intake, right?. Why are you and so many others measuring closed duration and not open duration? I guess 102 and 122 ATDC really is 78 and 58 degrees BBDC for 20 degrees blow down, 156 degrees total exhaust duration and 116 degrees transfer duration. Exhaust opening and intake closing at the same time.
An extra 36% oomph without a saw being 36% bigger capacity is NICE.
36.9% increase to be exact, nothing big just 2 more HP🤣 So stoked to have you back man👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Stock bore. Did machine work to raise compression and move the ports to the correct duration.
A 36% gain is a material amount. I wonder if you have enough data from porting and dyno testing to show which saws benefit the most from porting?
Most of the older generation/carb saws gain better %. Most of the newer auto tune/m tronic don't gain a high % but they start out stronger too.
Which has better performance, low top or high top filter?
Stock you are probably limited elsewhere
Why cut the squish band and then cut down the base?

How about vs high top? On the fence about converting mine
I agree! Take the same saw and dyno with the high top bigger filter to see if its worth it!
