The battle you do in almost every video just to get things working is truly a marvel & one of the reasons why I keep coming back. Thank you for your continued service for the culture
unironically have been waiting you to make something on actual film. if you ever want to make something on 16mm, i can help. have almost everything. develop, edit, scan. i love film.
@@justsomerandomgamer He used a cassette to record audio, not the film itself although there are ways and means of recording onto film... Most of which isn't available anymore but there are still stuff in the modern era. There was 8mm film that the average consumer could buy which had a magnetic strip on it that recorded the audio alongside exposing the film. The use of magnetic tape to playback audio on film wasn't just for home movies, but major blockbusters like the original Oklahoma which was shot and projectes on 65mm film. Magnetic tape was and sometimes still is used when editing reels of film, but the magnetic tape is seperate to the film itself in the editing room but are synced using either a Moviola or Steenbeck. However, the most commen version of sound-on-film is something called optical sound. Optical sound is made by exposing a certain part of film to a wave of light that moves about in tandem with external noise, which records it. It's very similar to a record being made but instead of a stylus it's just light. Single-perf 16mm film, meaning 16mm film where it's only perforated on one side instead of both, was actually made for this type of set-up, however the cameras that can actually record onto film are rare and pricey with most being either in archives or private collectors. Many early indie films were shot on these types of cameras and they were also used in set-ups to record television before colour TV became popular and magnetic tape completely replaced them. Despite these machines being gone, the majority of 16mm film is still single-perf. Although most cinemas that still project film use high-quality audio DVDs that sync-up with the projector and the film inside of it, optical sound is still a commen part of film projection. This is because it makes old projectors more compatible with newer films. CPC Films in London, a company that prints new and old but remastered movie onto 35mm film, always adds an optical strip on all their prints as it can be compatible with older formats. Go check out their UA-cam. Kodak still produces non-magnetic sound recording film that's pretty much designed to withstand nuclear war, so many archives use it to store almost everything from speeches to digital data. Film is a remarkable thing.
Following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan, this man will singlehandedly save the industry. I believe in you, Patter, and your ability to use your raw talent for good.
as someone who uses vhs tapes for recording footage - and has also just hours ago realised i lost about 9 hours of footage becuase my vcr was fulla dust - this has been a very reasurring watch, tnhanks you
We need that Sonic Heroes review on the big screen, seeing it in imax would be insane. This is peak cinema in the making, Christopher Nolan would be proud.
YES my good sir, that is why they invented Dark Rooms with their ominous red light bulbs - for processing film *out in the open*. Should've gotten yourself a VHS camrecorder for this vid and saved yourself all the trouble. X3 Why do I say this? Because I have one leftover from the old days; I can pop a VHS tape into it, record something, then pop the tape into my VCR to see the immediate results. Here's hoping your next video will feature this! ^_^
Man...this funny man on the interwebs keeps on being funny and creative I'M NEVER BORED WATCHING HIS CONTENT I WANT IT TO BE INJECTED IN MY VAINS...anyway Much Love to you Patter I really like what you do on this god forsaken platform! LONG LIVE SANIC! 🦔💙
I was actually sweating when you were opening up the film cartridge without getting it developed first. Also, 50D is meant to be shot outside, that’s why the video looks way too dark. Hoping for a part two where you do your proper research and you become the even better-er best Sonic UA-camr ever.
In a pefect world, we would have Imax 8k film of the cutscene from Sonic 06' where shadow kicks silver in the back of the head and then just stands there looking at him.
This 8mm film is going to be exhibit A in the trail against Peter, when he finally breaks and starts trying to free the tiny animals trapped inside of all the "badniks" using his "quills". The news report will say; "A peaceful neighborhood block lay in ruins when a youtuber named Peter Knetter, went around s laughtering his fellow neighbors screaming the theme song to 'Sonic Heroes', which I'm told is a video game for the Nintendo Gamecube."
13:12 yeah I was saying 8mm is worse than 16mm. Still really cool to see that you made a video using real film, though you taking the film out did hurt my poor soul
you have the same cassette player as me, as well as me having the same cassette itself! ive been planning on getting a camcorder but maybe film cameras are where its at
Sometimes, I wonder if Peter can do a video focusing on Squarespace or a series of tutorials for users who don't know how to use Squarespace and need some beginner's luck.
As someone who lives in West Virginia you indeed are the coolest blah blah blah (I couldn’t understand what he said and I’m too lazy to skip back to figure it out) of all West Virginia

“THE SECOND AMERICAN CIVIL WAR!!!” caught me very off guard
It appears Peter lives in an alternate universe
12:33 pikaBob back and up and alive, but how also pikaBob is one of my favorite characters that you have and I’m glad to see him back
Are we okay with PikaBob and not Sonichu-
the production value has gone up so much since I last watched, I'm proud of Peter
Peter's humour scratches an itch in my brain.

To be fair, the 8mm audio ain't that bad, I'm actually impressed and shocked all at once. I'm not too much of a film nerd though, lol
