Yes, they are Rubbermaid. A word of caution: 40% have developed cracks at the same place, usually after the warranty period. There are no adhesives that work on them, including some heavily advertised ones. The only solution is welding them with their own material harvested from under the top rim. We plan to do an instructional video showing the welding process since we have a few needing repair. Charles
So many pristine bloodlines. Hopefully you can recover most of it. I keep alot of different reptiles and when stuff like this happens my heart breaks for all the people who put so much hard work into keeping anylind of animals.
We are on the road to recovery. We just started processing the first breeding colonies that we rebuilt in late February. We are getting good reproduction. Charles
Are your referring to the 300-gallon vats? If so, we want water to flow out of them and have holes drilled to keep the water at the right level. The vats do sometimes crack and require welding to repair (no adhesives work long on these vats). Carl and Stormy will do a video on repairing the vats soon. If I didn't answer the right question, let me know and I'll try again, Charles
@@goliadfarms7029 I was looking on marketplace and saw some 300 gallon vats for $50 each. If you are good at welding such a thing they would probably be worth it. If you do any welding of these that would be a great video edition for your channel I think. Also do you recommend the giant Rubbermaid plastic or do you think the galvanized is good to go with? I was thinking a little further if you were going to heat four of the 300 gallon tubs during an emergency and had to run through and scoop up fish the best placement would be 2/5 of the way in and 4/5. Probably painting those emergency time stock tanks red or a different color partially at least. Also the ones most at risk should be closer to those tanks. These are just ideas and pondering. I don't know how you would be able to heat such a thing with less than 3 to 500 watts per tank. 🙏

I can't even watch these videos anymore , it's heart breaking. I hope African cichlid breeders help these folks out and donate some fish to them, to help them get back on there feet. I just have L# plecos , if I was still breeding cichlids I would definitely help out.
Thank you for your support. We hope to be able to provide less heart breaking videos in the coming weeks as we start to rebuild.
Carl
Have you thought about doing a one year overview video since it’s been a bit over a year since last year’s winter vortex?
Yes, and we are preparing to do one soon.

Climate change is real. We will have to learn to live with it. But, as we show in later videos, we are recovering.

Are those 300 gallon rubbermaid tubs ?
Yes, they are Rubbermaid. A word of caution: 40% have developed cracks at the same place, usually after the warranty period. There are no adhesives that work on them, including some heavily advertised ones. The only solution is welding them with their own material harvested from under the top rim. We plan to do an instructional video showing the welding process since we have a few needing repair.
Charles
So many pristine bloodlines. Hopefully you can recover most of it. I keep alot of different reptiles and when stuff like this happens my heart breaks for all the people who put so much hard work into keeping anylind of animals.
Thank you. We have hadsome more positiive outcomes since that day.
Charles
Man I swear this video had smell I vision because as he discribed it at the beginning I swoore I smelt it to. I dont even have tanks anymore
I get used to it quickly and the smell is improving. Carl and Stormy, however, are wimps and can't take the smell.
Charles
3:14 The dog yoinked a dead fish! Lmao Even he is helping clean it up.
I think he might be a she. But whatever. Lol
Oso and Maya, our German Shepherds, like to patrol the greenhouses for dead fish. With around 250,000 fish there are always some fatalities.
Charles
Bless your hearts.
We are on the road to recovery. We just started processing the first breeding colonies that we rebuilt in late February. We are getting good reproduction.
Charles
Have you guys ever added a bulkhead to the rounded ends of your stock tanks? Curious if the plastic gave enough to get a water tight seal?
Are your referring to the 300-gallon vats? If so, we want water to flow out of them and have holes drilled to keep the water at the right level. The vats do sometimes crack and require welding to repair (no adhesives work long on these vats). Carl and Stormy will do a video on repairing the vats soon.
If I didn't answer the right question, let me know and I'll try again,
Charles
@@goliadfarms7029 I was looking on marketplace and saw some 300 gallon vats for $50 each. If you are good at welding such a thing they would probably be worth it. If you do any welding of these that would be a great video edition for your channel I think. Also do you recommend the giant Rubbermaid plastic or do you think the galvanized is good to go with? I'm thinking that some rust would form on the galvanized and might jeopardize the stock so I'm thinking you've already thought this through. Also is Rubbermaid the best one you can get? Or is that the cheapest one that you don't want 😂? Cheers!
@@pullbackbaby We'll be in the market for more 300-gallon vats when we rebuild Greenhouse 3. We have a video of welding the vats that Carl needs to edit and post.
I've kept fish in galvanized tanks in the past successfully. I recommend filling and emptying them several times if they are new before adding fish.
Charles
@@goliadfarms7029 Thank you. Perhaps the plastic type don't have as dramatic temperature swings that metal vats could. Also welding cracks will be easier with plastic. Looking forward to seeing the video. Thank you ❤️

The dog's breath isn't anywhere close to their farts. Rotten fish dog farts are another level of disgusting!
Carl
@@goliadfarms7029 Haha I can imagine!
Will you treat the fish whit fungus ? So he will heal
We don't have a good way of treating an individual fish. I could dump in a lot of malachite green to help, but I don't want to stress our Nitrosomas bacterial colonies at this time. We need them to help control ammonia.

At the end of the day it's not about the insurance money It's about the living artwork you create and how beautiful it becomes and watching it all die right before your eyes that has to hurt the most. 🙏
We plan to add a large compost heater to raise wintertime temperatures, but that'll have wait until next year. Fortunately, it appears this will be a warm winter. Also, we have a new, larger propane tank, so we should be able to run a generator and heat at the same time.
Charles
@@goliadfarms7029 compost heater sounds amazing. I've stuck my hand in a mound of lawn clippings in 15 degree weather to find is very warm inside.
bury the dead fish near fruit trees .
They will still be fertilized after they run through a buzzard.
The buzzards do a remarkable job of disposal. Carl and Stormy have sensitive noses and can't handle the smell. I think there will be a funy video posted about that soon.
Charles
The biggest problem is removing all the death from all the cages and water, dead fish and water is not good combination for healthy fish, that allot of work to catch up on., hectic to see so much death in one place..
Very true, but we've gotten past that stage and are recovering. Please view later videos for our progress.

Itu ikan nya banyak yg mati karena didalam kolam terlalu banyak lumut dan ganggang, sehingga ikan susah bergerak bebas. Apa lagi kalau ikan nya dah besar susah bergerak.
The problem was the low water temperatures due to power outages and propane (for heating) shortages.

Why are they all dead?
They were killed by low temperatures. We had six days of no sun and sub-freezing temperatures. The Texas electric grid failed causing lengthy power outages. We have a generator, but our propane company couldn't deliver propane due to shortages caused by frozen natural gas lines. We were unable to heat and run the generator to keep our water pumps running at the same time,
Very knowledgeable guy seems like a really nice person but how dose those green houses pass inspection. Just remember its in Texas. The government leaves you alone down there
We, so far as I know, meet all regulations. We have closed systems and don't raise any prohibited species.
